Oh and I'd like to emphasise that no tests will be given regarding English proficiency - everyone's welcome. Some of the views expressed on this thread are in the minority and are not necessarily those of the group as a whole etc etc.

*LOL* Sorry, peeps, that I haven't been doing much on here. I have a
Referat tomorrow at the university and thus had been busy with that. But I'll be back and organising stuff again after tomorrow.

BTW,
Sid and
C in M: LOVE the squirrel and the hedgehog!

Though fluency in English is not a prerequisite, the word 'peeps' is strictly verboten.
I hope I'm not opening a can of worms, especially since I have yet to attend a SNB!

But I was just wondering why is there a distinction between an English speaking meetup and an "international" one? I guess I would assume because it's a TT thing, that English would be spoken amongst people, but why would it be a big deal if someone spoke German? Is it that small of a group?
Sidthespid
Jun 13 2006, 4:16 pm
It was simply because a member of the group works, lives and breathes in German. This gal wanted to meet up with folk who she could chat in English to (without any German) as a bit of light relief, so to speak. She comes along to TT events for this (as it is advertised as "Munich's English speaking crowd") and so gets somewhat peeved when folk turn up and try to talk German to her. I can understand it, though my German is absolutely appalling and I personally welcome opportunities to practice it. Anyone can talk in German to me, but I can't promise to know what the hell you're going on about, nor can I be expected to utter anything remotely coherent in reply. I try though, aber mein "Oachkazlschwoaf" ist perfekt! hmn...

okay, velleicht nur ein bissel
(Any references to the language preferences are now normally made only in jest. I'm a true Brit and my English wanes after a few beers.)
laura_k
Jun 13 2006, 4:19 pm
you call that english? Try moving north a bit, over the county border! (Yes, i did have to check a map of britain for this post)

Jun 13 2006, 6:23 pm
I am the member, now no longer a member, and I think it's fair enough to expect to meet native-speakers or near-native speakers on Toytown. I speak fluent German and do so all week long. Don't see why peeps should come down on me for wanting to speak my own language from time to time - which is, after all, what TT is supposed to offer. The Germans have the whole of Germany, why infiltrate TT, unless they are native-speaker level, which is a different kettle of fish. The German English Association caters for Germans who want to practise their English.
Anyway, no hard feelings, there are enough TT events to keep me busy, enjoy your knitting and goodbye!

Sid, that's very cool you actually got the pictures on the site. I love that site, practically everything on it makes my heart skip a beat. till tomorrow then, I'll leave my drugs and inclinations to use the p-word at home. hehe

I'm bringing something green with me and I warn you, it might be dangerous to sit near it. There's a sort of warp field around it that hoovers time and mists memory.
Or is that the beer?

Byeeee! We love you! Please don't forget to come back and then I can wave my green thing at you.
Though you were in my life just a short while
You know that I won't forget your smile
The memory of sharing pervy dreams
Discussing moles but not the creams
A strange occurrence perhaps mispelt
of instant liking and humour dealt
in swift witted words from your direction
whilst I talk shit about erections
So, good luck to you and your partner too
I suspect that you're not gonna need it,
coz with sazz and perzazz, you'll do just fine
I'll catch you soon xx the eejit
Safe journey munchkin xx Sid-ette

Ok I'm going to try this uploading pics thing. Anybody seen this yet? Knitted ferrari. I guess I'd rather have the non-knitted version, but I guess that's not the point. Sid, your talent for writing poetry is inspiring, colour me impressed. I love it!

See you guys at
Escobar tonight. I don't think I'll stay that long, since I'm sick. Besides, I don't know about the seatings, whether we're sitting outside again today or not...
Anyhow, won't be working on any socks today. Kind of picked up my UFOs (Un-Finished-Objects) last night and started working on them...so that'll be what I'm bringing this evening.
Also, it seems that this Wednesday is going to be at my place, I hope that the weather is nice, so that some of us can go out on the balcony since my place isn't that big. But we'll organise that somehow.

Since the weather's so nice today, let's try and get seats outside. I probably won't make it there at 5, but I'll definitely be there before 6! (Have to watch the Australia game

)
See ya guys later!

Okay SnBers, this Wednesday evening's going to be at my place. I'll PM/email my address and contact and the description of how to get here afterwards (might be this evening).
I'll have potato chips..mostly like what we had at laura_k's last Wednesday, i.e. I have pasta and sauce/pesto (I could also do rice with some kind of stir-fry...). However in the drink department I have only juices, ice-tea and wine, but no cocktail stuff. Any other snacks brought are welcomed. More details later!

I can't go, i've got a work thing in the evening. I'll take my knitting to that.

Will anyone be knitting a cozy for said cucumber?

Jun 20 2006, 9:13 am
Just to clear things up and in an attempt to wash clean Laura K's now tarnished reputation, she uses cucumber to put in cocktails
really
i know, she's one sick puppy
C_in_Märchenland
Jun 20 2006, 9:06 pm
But the cucumber might like a cozy before it's put in the drink – you know kind of like a last meal for the condemned, or a sweater for a vegetable that's about to be put in a cold drink... where it may or may not belong

Will you be fuzzy again tonight?
Elemmaciltur
Jun 21 2006, 9:43 am
Hmmm...doesn't seem like the weather will be very accommodating for sitting out on the balcony. But we'll see what happens.
BTW, my landlord's popping in around 7 p.m. to take a look at the shower (some of you know the story), but don't worry about it. I warned him that I've got visitors...although I didn't tell him that there'll be cackling hoard of drunk girls knitting in my flat.

Sidthespid

Okay, so I look like Sonia from Eastenders and I'm faithful in my loving relationship blah de blah de blah, but trust me - when I'm single, I'm Sam!
The question is... who's Big?

Escobar tonight as usual? Who's up for it?
Elemmaciltur
Jun 25 2006, 9:44 am
I'll be there! Please try to be not too late, because with the footy matches, they get people who want to sit and if we have empty chairs...well...it just doesn't look good. Not sure whether we're sitting outside or inside today...coz looking at the sky, it's not looking very accommodating...but maybe it'll clear up later.
See y'all this evening!

Jun 25 2006, 9:58 am
I will be there early because i want to see the start of the england game. Wow, i almost cared about football there for a moment.

laura_k, you know you're an obsessed football fan on the inside.
I want to be there early too but we'll see what happens...it looks like nice swimming weather...
I bought a bunch of wool at the flea market with Carrie (sp?) and don't know what I should do with it.
Elemmaciltur
Jun 25 2006, 12:50 pm
abra, what else do you do with wool? Knit them then! Or is there something you can do with them that I still don't know about?
laura_k
Jun 26 2006, 5:27 pm
I thought you were crocheting at the moment, Elemmaciltur - surely that's another wool-based activity? Or did you drink too much to remember? Or more likely, did you get put off by the guy opposite..
