@Alala, stop lurking! De-lurk yourself and say something!
alala
Feb 22 2006, 12:09 pm
HAHAHAHAHA! I wasn't really lurking, I just left the room for an hour or two.
Um, here's something: Sunday is a School Night, is shortly before my assignment deadlines for my online course, and the only night of the week when my whole family is reliably home. And I almost never go to Munich for just one reason. If I could get some shopping done as well, I'd probably be in a lot more often, but as it is, I almost never go to SnB. In fact, I've only been once, and that was because I was in town for the Super Bowl, which in turn was only because the Seahawks were playing.
Therefore, I will most likely not be there, and ergo, my opinion/convenience should not be taken into account. I'll help in any way I can, but I'm not gonna veto anything since whatever y'all choose will probably not affect me anyway.
But, you know, good luck and all!

HURRAH for Osbbahnhof. Looks like it's going to be the winner.

Feb 22 2006, 2:18 pm
@Nicky, yeah, it does look like
Ostbahnhof indeed, but wait until tomorrow.
@Mere, sure! Keep checking the thread for the venue for this Sunday and just come along. We'll teach you if you can't remember a thing...I'll bring my books with me.

I just want to ask one stupid dumb question. I am the old lady here and technology is not up to par with me yet but I am learning. However, is there a way that I can get on to this group`s current chat without going into "Calendar" clicking on "SNB" and then going from page "1" to the current page of "26"? Remember I can knit, purl, yo, dec, inc, block, cast off, but I can not figure out the right dam buttons for my age group.

Haven`t figured out how to open a "child`s proof safety cap", without an engineering degree either!!!

Feb 23 2006, 9:55 am
@Marilyn, You just go on the the main page of TT, click on 'Events - TT Meetups', you should see the thread somewhere on the list. Then you should be able to see the little boxes containing the page numbers below the title of the thread. Just click on the very latest number, in this case, 26 to get right to the last page of the thread.

Feb 23 2006, 10:37 am
Marilyn. Not sure I understand, but if you click on 'View New Posts' at the top this thread usually appears because we post everyday. Then proceed as Elemmaciltur says.
@Elemmaciltur Can you post the final decision for Sunday? Escobar, yes, near
Ostbahnhof. Are we meeting at 5 pm or earlier? You are the chief co-ordinator! And thanks to everyone for their efforts in keeping this going.
Elemmaciltur
Feb 23 2006, 10:58 am
@EVERYONE, I'm keeping the decision opened until this evening 2000 hrs! If there're any other suggestions, they're welcomed...otherwise it seems at the moment that we're all tending towards Escobar. In which case I'll ask laura_k to reserve the place for us and to make sure that we get EXTRA lightings that are bright enough.

Hey guys -
I checked out a place called Faya on Ohlmuellerstrasse in Au/Untergeising yesterday. They have Jamaican food and yummy coffee and the owner is very nice. I talked to her about having the snb there and she was accommodating. The only thing is that they close at 8 every night, and she's not too keen on Sundays... although she did offer an arrangement of sorts if we just wanted space to meet (I think it involved no coffee - schade!).
Marilyn
Feb 23 2006, 12:03 pm
The funniest thing that I ever knitted - was are you ready for this. One night I was knitting away minding my own business when my husband had a severe cold. Blowing his nose every 2 seconds. Finally he said to me (poor baby) "can`t you do anything to help me with this dam nose"? So I dropped my knitting that I was on and started on and finished it that night. A Nasal drip holder!!!

When I was finished, he asked "why is it so big", and I said "have you looked into the mirror lately". Never asked me again to help him out with his nose problem. Problem solved!!!

Feb 23 2006, 12:18 pm
Celina, thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think that it's good, because on average, we're at the SnB from about 5-8.30 p.m. And about half of us goes out on Sunday to SnB also to eat. So, if it only involves coffee...or lack thereof, I don't think that it'd be a great idea. And if the owner is already a bit reluctant about Sundays, I don't think it's good to push it upon her either.
So, Escobar is still on the top. Second by the Augustiner. Any Thirds?
Nicky
Feb 23 2006, 1:10 pm
NO, NO, NO! Escobar it is!
Need some yarn advice on Sunday. Aiming to finish my little mat.
Elemmaciltur
Feb 23 2006, 1:17 pm
Well, I got very giddy about sock yarns last night after reading a blog. I'm heading downtown soon afterwards to go get some (despite the 6 skeins of sock yarns I have in my stash *guilty look*)
@
Nicky, if you like, we can go yarnshopping together on Tuesday, coz I haven't anything planned for that day and I haven't got uni either.
And don't jump to conclusion about the venue yet! We'll wait until this evening. *whispers "Escobar"*

@EVERBODY, important!!!
Texastornado posted in the thread on TB closing down and she mentioned something that implies the TB might be opened this Sunday. I can't PM her right now, because it seems that her inbox is full. So, the decision for a new place will be postponed until tomorrow, i.e. Friday (I think if we have to, it's pretty obvious that we'll be going to Escobar - so laura_k, please be ready to reserve the places for us.) I'll try to pop down to TB tonight to see what's going on. Maybe I might be able to catch Nicky there and will discuss about this...although I can't really stay. I'll keep you guys updated!

Just wanna show you what I had been doing this morning:

Kitsch? Yeah, I know. I'm going to give it to HeWhoMustNotBeNamed at the airport tonight as a reminder for the week that he's not here to behave.

I'm such a control-freak.
It was a fun knit...took it's time, the bobbles can become a pain after you've done three of them...

Oh yes, and SnBers, show your thanks to Editor Bob for cleaning out the thread and putting up an archive for us!

Can anyone tell me what the best way is to change colors? I'm just knitting in the new color, but it seems the color change is nice and abrupt on one side but the one stitch worth of color always leaks over on the other side. Is there a particular stitch to use to avoid this and have a nice, abrupt color change on both sides? Help!
Elemmaciltur
Feb 24 2006, 10:32 pm
@IPJ, well, I don't know any other way apart to either tie a knot on the edge and knit with the new colour or knit only the first stitch (tightly) with both colours, then drop the first colour and just carry on with the new colour...but I think some other SnBers would know better than me about changing colours.
Anyway, I went crazy on sock yarns: Regia Canadian Colour:

THANKYOU EDITOR BOB!

Feb 27 2006, 9:20 am
Well I`m back on, it must have been that Mercury thingy going backwards, or whatever. I asked my family to point out where I purled the knitted stitch instead of knitting it and they couldn`t find it so it looks like it stays there. Really didn`t want to frog it. So now I`m ready to do the pattern. Hope I can figure it out. If not I`m going to NEED help.

And I actually did some work on my table-mat this week! All set to start on two new projects. Anyone else out there wanting to try their hand at some stitching?
Nicky
Mar 4 2006, 12:53 pm
Where is everyone? No-one's posting! Just when I'm getting all enthusiastic with my new projects. See you all tomorrow. Can't wait to try the food this Sunday.
Question: This thread's getting really long. Should we ask Ed Bob to archive some of it?
Elemmaciltur
Mar 4 2006, 1:04 pm
@Nicky, I just PMed you...and well, yeah, I'll get back into posting now. And no, we don't have to as Editor Bob to archive the thread. It'll be automatically archived every two weeks anyway.

I still need to work on the Anchor Post, but well, I'll talk about it to you guys tomorrow!
Was great yesterday! If you want to know more, just go read
THIS ENTRY on my blog!
So, I made the
Marsan Watchcap for my friend:

Fantastic hat! Any newcomers this week? If so, feel free to pm one of us for details. Everyone welcome - we'll help you get started if you're new to the world of knitting and crocheting. Or bring your sewing, or other craft, along.

I hope everybody can make it today...also I just hope that I can make it...heard that no public transportation's running at all today. We'll see...I'm making my way soon.

To anyone thinking of coming - you should be able to take
U-Bahn or

Went and bought a skein of Noro Kureyon yesterday...with a very specific project in mind. And, well, half of the project's finished already! And the other half is on the needles, probably will be finished at the latest tomorrow morning.

Have a look:

Mar 7 2006, 6:31 pm
@laura_k: sorry, the tickets have been bought. Come tomorrow - you know what I'm talking about, I've signed up already...
Went Yarnshopping with Nicky this afternoon...couldn't resist and got myself another skein of Kureyon to make another pair of that mitten, which BTW is called: Kolenya
Celina
Mar 8 2006, 12:08 am
mittens?! damn! how do you do this so fast??
nice work, can't wait to see the pair!
btw, tried to sign up for wednesday... but the form doesn't like me! arrrggghhh!! will be there anyway!
Nicky
Mar 8 2006, 9:44 am
Just pm'ed you, Celina. See you tonight! Anyone else bringing their knitting? I'll like to, but am wondering how the veteran curry-eaters might react.
Elemmaciltur
Mar 8 2006, 10:01 am
@Nicky, I signed Celina, Phillip and Gabriel up as my guests. So that should be okay now. I'll post on the CN thread and tell them that, so that nobody would sign them up again. Bring your knitting along if you want. You know me, I always have a small project with me.
Elemmaciltur
Mar 9 2006, 12:15 pm
Most of you have seen this last night at the CN...but to not leave anybody from the SnB out that weren't there:

It's my first pair of modified
Kolenya. (<---- Click for pattern) Why modified? I left out the crocheted bridges and made the top shorter. Don't you just LOVE the colourway??? It reminds me of moss and earth, clear running water and blue sky. For some reason, the word 'Norway' comes to mind, even though I've never been there before.

And a second pair is on its way! I will still leave the bridges out, but might make the top longer this time.
BTW, the Kolenya's a good fix and excuse to use or go get your Noro Kureyon/Silk Garden (I'm using Kureyon...it's not as bad as I thought and has a rustic feeling to it). Best thing is, a pair is just one skein! And they're a great and fast knit. It took me about a day to finish a side.

(I know, I'm a knitting
freak fiend

)
If you want to knit it and have questions (apart from the crocheting part, coz I definitely won't be able to help you there), don't hesitate to ask me, or the owner of the pattern. I know that
bonnie wants to knit a pair!
(It was such an acrobatic act taking that photo, as you can see, I've both my hands laid down...had to hold my cellphone with my mouth and used the photo timer *LOL*)

Mar 9 2006, 8:47 pm
And don't forget Stitch and Bitch this coming Sunday! Newcomers welcome, of course - pm me if you need directions.
Nicky
Mar 11 2006, 12:16 am
So hope you're all set for this Sunday. Let's show Elemmaciltur what we can get up to without him. I vote we get an entire outfit knitted by the time he gets back.
Anyone got any nice pics to post?

Mar 11 2006, 12:18 am
Sorry, thought this was just a pisstake forum, never been on before but you guys actually serious aren't you ? Sorry
Nicky
Mar 11 2006, 12:28 am
Yes, we are. And if there are any serious newcomers who'd like to join us on Sunday, they should send one of us knitters a pm for details. Crochet, tapestry etc. too of course!
Elemmaciltur
Mar 11 2006, 12:30 am
Well, I'm hoping to be able to post the pictures of my second pair of Kolenya tomorrow.
Yeah, you guys need to knit me a sweater by the time I get back!
Nicky
Mar 11 2006, 12:35 am
What a fantastic idea! A sweater for Elemmaciltur! We all do a piece - hence six different tensions! I wonder which of his arms is shorter? Or maybe patchwork?
Marilyn
Mar 11 2006, 4:48 pm
Sorry, I don`t mean to be selfish, but first I must get passed my own sweater first.
Victor hope your flight is a safe one, and don`t use your needles on board, they might mistake you for a bad person,

what will you do for the duration of the flight, you won`t be able to have knitting in your hands. Catch up on your sleep? Anyway have a great one!
Marilyn
Mar 11 2006, 4:53 pm
In all of your stops look to see if you can find any Vogue knitting books! (HA!HA!)
Nicky
Mar 11 2006, 11:43 pm
See everybody tomorrow. Scarf's coming along nicely, though I'm finding the yarn varies in thickness tremendously. There are some real 'lumps' in it followed by long thin strands. Ah well, guess that makes it look natural.
Elemmaciltur
Mar 12 2006, 11:38 am
