Nicky, well, it's not that bad, but I'd appreciate if all of you could look around for a new location, too.
I'll go and have a real look tomorrow...

Just to lift the glooms, as most of you had seen, I've started the other side of my sock last night (only to FROG - shut up
SidtheSpid!

- and restart it again). I've also done one repeat of the laces for my second Olympic Scarf...need your opinions here.
Alala, as well as somebody else from the blogosphere has already suggested that I stick to the lace pattern for the whole scarf, but well, I'm really tempted to do a cabled body now and just leave the ends in the laces as I have planned, what do you think?

Here's a closer look at the lace pattern (pre-blocking,
naturellement):

Oh yeah, and I'm VERY tempted to start another pair of socks (either on 2 circs or Magic Loop, so that I'll learn a new technique) as well as the hat for myself...but I've all these UFOs* around right now.
* UFO = knitterese for UnFinished Objects
Okay, I'll do an introduction to the modern knitterese:
FO = Finished Object
WIP = Work in Progress
Frog = to rip
tink = 'knit' backwards, i.e. undoing the stitches one by one
So now you're all informed, so, start using the terms!!! Then I won't be the only geek there.

Don't think cable really goes with the lace - the lace is kind of dainty and cable is chunky. I'd stick to lace. If I'm allowed an opinion, that is.

I'm happy to join your surrealism honey, it makes my world seem relatively sane
and pray tell, wtf is blocking? I asked someone there but they told me it was ironing it...
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 10:08 am
@Sidthespid, Blocking? Well, quasi-ironing is one of the way. Basically, blocking is a way to settle your project and shape it. There are several ways to do this. One of the easiest ways is steam-blocking. This is easily don for a small project like a scarf with your steam iron. You pin your project on a board to the shape that it should be (no, you can't distort the shape totally like making a square turn into a round object, but say, if you have laces worked in your project, you could make it more visible by blocking).
So, you pin your project to the shape and then you just hover your stream iron over it (not ironing directly on the project, but letting the steam go through it) and then let the steam go thoroughly through. Leave the project in place with the pin for at least 30 minutes or until it dries completely before removing.
Blocking usually works with natural fibre. It relaxes the fibre and settles it into shape. Hope that helps!

Thanks, I didn't realise the world of knitting was so complex...

Victor e-mailed about the location being moved. There is this place down the street from me in
Neuhausen just remodeled last year. The name of the place is Augustiner on Hübnerstr. It has a side room and is very well lit. Has a full menu very reasonable priced and drinks of all kinds. In the summer it has lots of seats outside until it becomes dark then there is no light. The room is vacant most of the time however, I have on occassion seen some people in it when and if the place gets overcrowded. The room has doors for privacy. But is glass all around so you can at least see out. Let me know your opinion on this before I go and inquire. If you are for it then and only then I will go ask if not I`ll search someplace else.

Thanks
Marilyn! I just took a look, and it seems nice. If we could use the sideroom Marilyn mentioned and reserve it as a Stammtisch...it might work. Check the place out
HERE - only in German though. The menu's Bavarian, but the price is reasonable. And it can be reached relatively easily.
What do you guys say?
If the majority goes for a yes for this place, would one of the more...errrr...mature person ring them up to reserve for this Sunday? We need to agree on a place (at least for this Sunday) at the latest by Thursday night!

Sounds great to me!
Nicky
Feb 21 2006, 9:25 pm
Sounds great! I don't mind reserving if no-one feels up to it, but if Marilyn goes in to enquire, she can reserve at the same time. Hurrah - 'Stitch and Bitch' goes on ... and with any luck TB will re-open sometime and we can move back. Polite question: is the room relatively smoke-free?

Ok, also I just went to a Mexican place near
Ostbahnhof, they have happy hour on cocktails all sunday (4euro), nice food (free chips and dips just now though maybe that's just tuesdays) and they said we could have the end room as a stammtisch on sundays if we wanted - they said they could provide extra lighting for it. I'm not sure how busy it gets on sundays though. its Escobar or Eskobar on Elsaesserstr. He gave me a card which i have expertly lost.

Feb 21 2006, 9:42 pm
I might join you guys for the mexican food alone(if it was good). I wont knit but can play the poser part real well.

You might think that you'd get away with not knitting, but the needles make pretty good weapons and we can force people to do almost anything..
Nicky
Feb 21 2006, 9:46 pm
Thanks laura k! Sounds even better. Who's coming? How about a bit of crochet, perdido?
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 9:47 pm
@laura_k, yeah, that might be nice...especially if we really could have a room with good lightings to ourselves. They don't seem to have a homepage though...and another question to be asked is the smokiness of the place. Although with an extra room, that should be out of the way.

What are you talking about, EVERYONE loves ostbhf.
I'll have another look for the card, it must be there somewhere as i'm pretty sure i didn't eat it.
the room hasnt got a door, but it's got prison bars. classy! I dunno, we could try a week in each place or sommat. I love cocktails personally ...
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 9:52 pm
Okay, by the sound of it...I think the Escobar might be a better place...besides, I just had a look at the map and it seems that
Ostbahnhof has better transportation possibilities than Leonrodplatz.

Here's my previous thoughts on the place.

Ta@Keydeck
@laura_k, although looking at the price of the food (and the extensivity of the menu) there, the Augustiner really beats Escobar...and besides, a change from tex-mex to bavarian might be a good idea.
What d'y'all think??
laura_k
Feb 21 2006, 9:54 pm
Ok they list it as breisacherstr sorry, it's on the corner. Though clearly elsaesser is the superior street.

dirty as it looks in those pics..

Feb 21 2006, 10:02 pm
@laura_k, the pics on the website you provided look heaps better than the one they put in the video on their website...this might work. What's with the smokiness in the place? Is it loud?
Marilyn
Feb 21 2006, 10:06 pm
So do you want me to ask at the Augustiner tomorrow? Or we could get one place one week and then another the next week and perhaps by then the TB will be back open again? As far as the smoking in the Augustiner, there is only a door that is open all of the time, the glass surrounds the rest of the place.
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 10:06 pm
@Marilyn, wait until Thursday evening when everybody has a chance at a say then we can settle on the place to ask. I think that that's fair enough.
laura_k
Feb 21 2006, 10:09 pm
It was quiet tonight and there was nobody in the extra room at all, never been on a sunday tho. Also theres a rrreally beautiful place on preysingstr that has a non smoking room and is lovely on sundays but packed at lunch time, not sure if it would tail off in the evening
All these topics make me dizzy, seriously
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 10:12 pm
@laura_k, well, as long as we can have most of the extra back prison-room and extra lighting, it should be fab. But let's see what the others say about this place. What's this place on Preysingstr. you're talking about?
laura_k
Feb 21 2006, 10:18 pm
http://munichx.de/essen/preysinggarten.phpsee i didnt evn know the name of it and i found it! i fvckin love google. and theres a piano in the pic! i've never noticed it when ive been there.
the food is amazing on sundays, i think they get a chef in, not that we're there for the food. i really like that place anyway. But like i said it's packed at lunchtimes. not sure about evenings. also i don't think it's close to any
U Bahn though i could be wrong. (try not to imagine my being wrong, it will be too much for you at this time of night)
Nicky
Feb 21 2006, 10:21 pm
I vote for laura's place. Think you'll attract more stitchers than with Bavarian. But we could keep Marilyn's place up our sleeves anyway. Thanks to you both for looking, though.
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 10:25 pm
@
Laura_k, the Preysinggarten seems to be a bit too small to accomodate all of us. It seems easily reached by tram and
U-Bahn (Max-Weber-Pl.) or with the
S-Bahn (
Rosenheimerplatz)...but I don't think that the place will be suitable for us.
All Stitchers & Bitchers, I think it's time to do a summary:
Up until now there are two places that really come into the equation: The Augustiner suggested by
Marilyn and Escobar suggested by
Laura_k...please read the thread back and have a look at those places. Post any other suggestions you have and we'll discuss this into tomorrow night. The decision must be made by Thursday evening and reservations made (as this will be a new place) by Friday at the latest.
And after hard consideration: if any of you need to get into contact with me (I think I'm becoming the co-ordinator for this thing now) for whatever reasons, please PM me for my cellphone number.
BTW, I've looked at a couple of places in
Schwabing, but haven't came across one that I think would be suitable...there are a couple in
Amalienstrasse though.
laura_k
Feb 21 2006, 10:28 pm
the preysing one has a whole extra room not in the pictures though also
REMEMBER IF YOU DON'T VOTE FOR MY PLACE I'LL TAKE IT THAT YOU HATE ME
joke. i don't mind which, im just too lazy to go to rotkreuzplatz

are there any other places more central or more round university area? or how about in glockenbachviertel?
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 10:30 pm
Oh, please do shut up, laura_k, you know full well that we all hate ya! *LOL*
Well, if Preysinggarten has an extra room and is willing to accomodate a group of babbling, knitting of English speakers and provide extra lightings, then it would also come into equation.
laura_k
Feb 21 2006, 10:32 pm
duly shutting up, well in a min at least. I shall go down there and ask but no time before thursday. let's just do a diff place each week till we find a place we like?
Elemmaciltur
Feb 21 2006, 10:34 pm
@laura_k, we could do that...but I think it's stressy for all of us to keep changing places each week. Let's just throw in the suggestions and we'll give the final votes on Thursday evening.
BTW, I might take time to go and check out the places tomorrow...but if you know me well enough, I won't ever get around to do that.

laura_k, yeah, sure! That'd be a great idea! Where and when should we meet? and quoting Shakespere:
First Witch
When shall we three meet again
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
Second Witch
When the hurlyburly's done,
When the battle's lost and won.
Third Witch
That will be ere the set of sun.
First Witch
Where the place?
Second Witch
Upon the heath.
Third Witch
There to meet with Macbeth.
First Witch
I come, Graymalkin!
Second Witch
Paddock calls.
Third Witch
Anon.

Schwabing, there's always
SFCC and
