Alala, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that out tonight. But, say, don't I also have to turn the pattern upside down, too? Because I want to mirror the thing exactly from the top (since it's going to be on each end of a scarf - the middle/body will be in Basket Weave).
Because that's what I tried this morning, just turning the thing upside down...

Okay, I knitted this up to see how it would work. I knit by diagram, and by improvisation, so while I understand the abbreviations, I have a hard time writing them. Let's hope I don't make any mistakes.
So I started with your original 10 rows...
Row 1: k5, k2tog, k4, yo, k1, yo, k4, sl1 knit-wise, k1, psso, k5
Row 2, 4 and 6: purl
Row 3: k4, k2tog, k4, yo, k3, yo, k4, sl1 knit-wise, k1, psso, k4
Row 5: k3, k2tog, k4, yo, k5, yo, k4, sl1 knit-wise, k1, psso, k3
Row 7: k2, k2tog, k4, yo, k2, p3, k2, yo, k 4, sl1 knit-wise, k1, psso, k2
Row 8: p10, k3, p10
Row 9: k1, k2tog, k4, yo, k3, p3, k3, yo, k4, sl1 knit-wise, k1, psso, k1
Row 10: p10, k3, p10
(Row 11-12: you might want to knit two rows even here, before you change direction. Depends on whether you want a curve or a corner. If not...)
Row 11: k1, yo, s1k1psso, k4, yo, s1k1psso, k1, p3, k1, k2tog, yo, k4, k2tog, yo, k1
Row 12: p1, p into the back of the yo, p8, k3, p8, p into the back of the yo, p1. Always purl into the back of the first and last yo from the previous row, so there will be no hole, but I'm not going to type that in subsequent purl rows, okay?
Row 13: k2, yo, s1k1psso, k4, yo, s1k1psso, k3, k2tog, yo, k4, k2tog, yo, k2
Row 14, 16, and 18: purl
Row 15: k3, yo, s1k1psso, k4, yo, s1k1psso, k1, k2tog, yo, k4, k2tog, yo, k3
Row 17: k4, yo, s1k1psso, k4, yo, s1, k2tog, psso, yo, k4, k2tog, yo, k4
Try that, and let me know how it goes. As I said, it worked fine when I knitted it, but I'm not sure of my ability to write out knitting instructions.

Jan 26 2006, 9:43 pm
@Alala, from row 11 onwards, am I supposed to be sl1 KNIT-wise, or Purl-wise? And why do you decrease in row 17???
alala
Jan 26 2006, 10:10 pm
See, that's where the instruction-writing falls apart, because I don't use s1k1psso myself. I'm guessing knitwise. And the row 17 decrease was wholly unintentional, unless you mean that middle bit, which is basically just making 3 stitches into 1. It should still end up with the same number of stitches.
Elemmaciltur
Jan 26 2006, 10:15 pm
Well, I'm on to row 16 now. Had been slipping purl-wise however. I'll just try row 17 like you've written and see what comes out of it. I'll let you know what happens then...
Elemmaciltur
Jan 26 2006, 10:37 pm
Okay, it kinda works. But the curves aren't as nice as only the edge of the curve curves in and not the whole petal (I'm calling it petal, because the pattern's name is 'tulip')...besides, I don't really like how the row 17 sl1k2togpsso looks:

Nevertheless, I'm really grateful for alala's having worked the thing out! Thank you soooo much! I hope that I'll get there one day and be able to make the thing up myself.
I'll have to reconsider the pattern. Either I'll have to give in and just leave it without the mirroring...or just try out another pattern and try mirroring that...or just find a pattern that's symmetrical! I'll see.
alala
Jan 26 2006, 10:42 pm
Yeah, perfect symmetry is hard with knitting. That point, the s1k2togpsso might be a bit improvable, but that's basically how you get a point on something, afaik. I'll ponder it. Actually, you might ask the knitters on your blogroll, since they are certainly senior to me. I bet they'll know what to do. Good luck, and let me know what you find out!
Elemmaciltur
Jan 26 2006, 10:45 pm
@
Alala, yeah...I might ask either
Yarn Harlot or
The Blue Blog...they might know what to do. But then again, I might just as well leave out the whole mirroring thing. It's just getting too much to me now...I'll see. Like I said, I might give other patterns a try.

Thanks!!!

Who said knitting was relaxing? I feel exhausted when I read this thread! Think I'm going to dream of k1p1psso ... pssst itch ...
@Elemmaciltur - have you thought about taking up crochet?
See everyone on Sunday!

Jan 27 2006, 8:44 am
@Nicky, well, I'll have to learn Intarsia and Fair Isle Knitting first, then I'll move on to crochet. Was talking to Laura_K the other day and mentioned that I'll eventually have to learn how to crochet, because there are things you'll have to crochet after you've knitted things up.
And don't worry, I've been dreaming about knitting quite a lot of late!

I don't actually live in Munich, but I come here almost every month on business. I was looking for something to do to amuse myself this weekend, and stumbled onto Toytown for the first time... And then I found this thread! I have a SNB group back home in Guilford, CT that I started this year. I'd love to meet up with you all this weekend -- How late do you all usually stay out when you meet up?

Hi, Elemmaciltur... I don't know the
Twisted Bavarian, but I'm sure I can find it. I've got the address. I actually don't really know
Schwabing at all, I haven't ventured too much past the city center on my walks yet (pathetic, I know). Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow!

Some one asked me for the pattern for the simple teddy bear I do at regular intervals.
*Cast on 10
Knit 10 rows
This is leg number one.
Cut the wool and on the same needle cast on 10
Knit 10 rows
This is leg number 2. Both legs should be on the same needle
Knit both legs together
Knit 10 rows
This complete's the body
Cut the wool and on the other needle cast on 10
Knit across the body
Cast on another 10
Knit 10 rows*
Cast off 10 stiches, knit 10 cast of the remaining 10
This finishes the arms
Cast 10 on the other needle
knit across the neck
cast on another 10
Knit one row
K2T, knit to end
Repeat last row to end.
This finishes the back of the bear. And yes the head does look like an out of proportion triangle.
To do the front knit from * to *.
Then cast off.
Sew the front and back together leaving a hole at the neck. Fold the triangle of the head as if it is an envolope (i.e. join all the points together). This should give you a whole teddy but still with a hole in the neck
Stuff the teddy and then sew his neck up.
Then sew on eyes and a nose.
And then you have a teddy bear.
You can enlarge it by replacing all the 10s in the pattern with any number you like.
For it to work well your knitting needs to be tight so you should consider using a smaller pair of needles than normal.

Yes, I went on a small shopping spree today...just because I was a bit pissed off at HeWhoMustNotBeNamed...

@ Elemmaciltur - time to make a sweater soon!
Elemmaciltur
Jan 31 2006, 6:19 pm
@
Nicky, true...I could start a sweater for next winter soon.

Was looking through the Noro pattern catalogue last night at Wollkorb and saw this gorgeous men's sweater...however I'd need about 12 skeins of the stuff...and well, with the Silk Garden at EUR 12.95/skein...EUR 155.40 just for the yarn already! *brrrr*
Anyhow, had to frog my Noro scarf last night and re-do it...all because I was tipsy knitting...and with the Noro yarn, you can't easily see where you are. Anyhow, here's how much I've got through this morning:

And I've found the magic of blocking this afternoon. Went to get pins yesterday and tried blocking my lace swatch from Sunday. See above for pre-block look and notice how it was tight and scrunched up and the lace pattern not showing through very well? Now, half an hour after I've pinned it on the ironing board and thoroughly ran the steam over it with my iron, voilà!:

Peeps, blocking IS the new botox! I've already blocked my first scarf already to take the curve out of it (from casting off too tightly)...going to block the Yarn-Monster tonight.

Twas a moment of horror last night when I picked up my Noro Basketweave scarf to knit again...and ta-da!!! What did I find? A KNOT IN THE YARN I JUST PULLED OUT OF THE SKEIN!!! You can see those live strands in the scarf! I mean, I had to cut it and knit the ends together. The worst things are that, the knot had to occur in the BLOODY MIDDLE of the scarf...and on the BLOODY RIGHT SIDE! Okay, I'll just darn that in afterwards on the WRONG side.
Peeps, this damn Noro Silk Garden costs EUR 12.95 per 50g skein! AND IT HAS A KNOT!!! *screams and tears hair out* Thing is
Crazy Aunt Purl had the
exact same problem with the same yarn and pattern. One of the knit blogger told me on Blogger that Noro - despite its exorbitantly high price - has a huge knot-issue-problem within the yarn...it was to the point that she had to give up one of her project with Noro because there were so many knots in one skein! Now, I just hope that it won't happen to me. *sigh*

Elemmaciltur, you could always make a yarn acquisition each time HeWhoMustNotBeNamed steps out of line. It could take a full season to get that sweater, but you'll get it eventually.
Elemmaciltur
Feb 2 2006, 2:44 pm
@TexasTornado, soso, you've been lurking my blog, eh?

De-lurk yourself the next time you're there.
Actually, it's what I'm doing all the time now. Instead of my going to do senseless shopping therapy and ended up with things I don't need at all when I get into a cross with HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, I now go and buy myself yarns instead...so that I can always make something out of it.
I'll have a look at yarn for a future sweater...Was looking through the pattern for a pullunder this morning that I might make eventually (but first I have to make sense out of the German instructions about decreasing and decreasing and all - I might bring the pattern along on Sunday)...but well, I already have an excuse to go yarn shopping today. One of my friend on my private blog asked me to make her a scarf...and so, that's my first real order! *YAY! Yarn shopping!!!*
Nicky
Feb 2 2006, 8:22 pm
@ Elemmaciltur - why don't you use an English pattern - they're much easier to follow? Enjoy your yarns. Who's coming Sunday?
alala

Alala's coming!!! Photo blogging session!!!
Nicky, because I already have instructions in German.

And now...read further, because I'm taking your suggestion a bit more seriously now:
Looky at what I got today!

Here are the yarns for the scarf that a blog friend had requested me to make for her...This will be my very first project upon a request/order!
Yes, I'm taking orders...but please, no sweater or anything like that. For now, I'll be taking in orders for scarves only. More info just go and read it on
my blog!
I've finally got my fisherman's rib to work. I had to drop down to size 3 needles though. My tension must be alot lower than average. I'll bring it along on Sunday.
I really should finish Dori's scarf before I see her again. If I'm not careful I'm going to have nearly as many projects on the go as Victor.
Elemmaciltur
Feb 3 2006, 11:48 pm
Hehehe, yeah,
roz, that's good strategy...but I'll get you down the path quick enough to have multiple projects on the needles.
Speaking of which, I'll probably have four more projects (a cellphone sock that a friend just ordered today -yippeh!-, the scarf that another friend had requested, the two scarves for the knitting olympics) on the needles in addition to the other four projects I already have on the needles (hat for my mum - no progress there -, clapotis - progress here and there -, sock - slow but steady progress -, my noro basketweave scarf - steady progress).
Talking about the Knitting Olympics, there are now more participants in the Knitting Olympics (more than 2500) than the real participants in the Winter Olympics (2400 participants) itself!

Do you have room for another on Sunday the 5th. If you do, would you kindly give me directions, time and place. I can knit, purl, yo, inc, and dec, but everything I ever do always has to be plain, for I don`t know past that point.

Marilyn, we always have room for more people! Would be great if you come along tomorrow! The venue is at the Twisted Bavarian in the House of Savoy on Tengstrasse 20.
We come at different time depending on the person...but usually from 4 p.m. onwards. I should be there at about 4 tomorrow if things go well (will tell y'all about that tomorrow).
And,
Stitchers & Bitchers, anybody got fat as needles and fat fluffly yarns for
TexasTornado tomorrow? I haven't coz all the stuff are for the Olympics coming up on Friday and for the orders I'm getting.
Bad TT's server move yesterday had rendered the email notification of new posts and PMs useless, so I didn't see her PM to me until, like, now.

It'd be great if someone has something for her,
Roz?? It'd have been a different story were it yesterday evening though, since I was giving

Twisted Bavarian. 5 pm definitely ok. Maybe some eager knitters there earlier. Go to crossing Georgenstr./Tengstr. Turn right into Tengstraße from Georgenstraße and it's just along on your right - look for the old 'Savoy hotel' and Twisted's own sign. Sorry, I'm not an U-Bahn person - maybe someone else can give you directions from Josephsplatz. Where are you coming from?
Anyway, just go into TB, turn right and you'll find us on the couch.

I had thought hard and long about whether to post this or not...because I didn't want to scare any of you with my ugly leg and foot...but well, I just can't keep my knittings to myself, so here they are:

that's my practice sock...but I'm getting fond of the fact that I turned it into an ankle sock...so I think I might as well just make a pair out of it when I finished with this side.
And now to my Meilenweit Fantasie fun:

So, how's that? Heels turned, gussets shaped, feet are being knitted. Although, coming to think of it, I should've stopped the ribbing of the Meilenweit when I was doing the gusset and do the foot in the stockinette stitches. Oh well...it'll be interesting to have a ribbed instep then.
