Hi Maria. Even if no girls are meeting up for the stitch and bitch today, you're welcome to bring your stitching supplies and come join those of us
making jewelry for the bitching bit.

All the big department stores like
Hertie Hauptbahnhof have handicrafts sections - I often buy the pure cotton at Kaufring, the smaller department store opposite
Ostbahnhof - but there are also small shops. Sorry, don't actually know any specific one, but you can look in the Yellow Pages under either Handarbeitsbedarf, or, better still, Wollwaren - Strickwaren to find a shop near you. See you later.

That would be great! Where do you meet in the TB?
Actually, I am an avid jewelry maker myself, but alas, all my supplies were left in the states, so i'm just now trying to finish up some knitting projects so I can buy some new ones!!

We're normally right out in the front room, but we'll be obvious. Just look for the people with all the boxes of beads and supplies spread out in front of them.

Edit: Of course, you're welcome to join us making jewelry, too...

I actually tried to come today, but I either got there too late or too early because I did not see (or hear) anyone. Which room were you in? I'll try again next Sunday! Tschüss until then!

Stitch & Bitch Knitting Circle <--- Has to be about the wittiest name for a sewing circle.
Another one I can think of which is kinda along the same lines is "Curl Up And Dye" (buf for a hairdresser shop)

Hiya S&B club,
ive not been creative with materials since school, which is a distant memory!
Never mind, i would love to come along, & get a feel for this club, as it sounds like a real laugh also interesting.
Are you all still meeting up? were? can i come without materials this week? x

IPJ is leaving

us, but I for one would like to continue the jewellerymaking combined with some stitching and bitching when I come back from England next week. Wouldn't be too much trouble to organise a few spare balls of wool and spare needles for the unequipped. Provided Texas Tornado doesn't mind us occupying a table.

Aug 13 2005, 2:26 pm
Our resident knitters are in London for the weekend. That would be the Stitch & Bitch originator, Mbangura and her partners in fun Roz and Nicky.
I have lots of spare yarn, but no needles.
Well the
Bookswap's going on at any rate, and we can bitch too. So if any stitchers show up they needn't be lonely.

Anyone interested in getting the yarn and needles out this coming Sunday, weather permitting? We've lost IPJ's expertise

, but if anyone's interested in attempting some jewellerymaking I could bring some beads etc. along - but would need to know in time to go shopping. I assume TB still opens at 5 pm?
TexasTornado
Aug 24 2005, 12:08 pm
Yes Dear, we be open at 17:00. I've been thinkin' if the weather really sucks, we could open early and do the S&B at 15:00 like we did last winter. It's up to you girls.
If someone has a spare crochet needle, please bring along. I have extra yarn in the back room.

@Nicky - if we get a few girls to come to the Jewelry making, I could bring along my selection of beads too!

Aug 24 2005, 1:28 pm
I'm probably going to take most of my beads with me, but if Nicky stops by my apartment sometime this weekend, I can provide her with at least the basics (wire, clasps, etc.).
Nicky
Aug 24 2005, 8:40 pm
Great! I'll bring needles plus what I have in the way of jewellerymaking stuff - thanks IPJ - hope it works out over the weekend. If TB opens earlier I could be there around 4 pm.

I'll be there with my crochet needle. Maybe this thread should be given a boost - STITCH AND BITCH back again after summer vacation! Anyone interested in joining or even learning should bring along some needles and yarn to master the basic stitches.
Also, if anyone is interested in combining some JEWELLERYMAKING, I can bring along a few basic supplies for making necklaces, dangly earrings and bracelets.

Sep 14 2005, 2:22 pm
Well Ladies not that the weather is turning cooler, we are open for Sunday Brunch again!
So, if ya want, we can go back to the original S&B time of 15:00 instead of the summer hours at 17:00

Sep 18 2005, 11:56 am
Unless there's a fixed arrangement I always make my way to TB when I've finished preparing my classes. Today by 5 pm at the latest, just in case anyone reads this.
@Butterbean Yes, of course! But I seem to remember you were excellent at the stitching.

We have decided to hold off on brunch until after Oktoberfest, so to answer the question, we open at 17:00 today.

I'm presuming the stitching is universal, but do you bitch in german or english? I can only just remember how to cast on and I'm naff at that, so I need to learn both stitching and german.
However, I'm a mistress at bitching

(in english, of course)
and... is it held in a back room, or are you kinda obvious?
and no, I'm not a Sid, but a Sidette
Nicky
Sep 26 2005, 7:39 pm
I prefer bitching in English - TT is a chance for me to hear my own language in its up-to-date version since I hear German everywhere else. Quite happy too, to help cast on or whatever.

I am not a knitter, stitcher (bitcher, well

) but I came across this request from a fellow translator, would this interest any of you? (I didn't know there was a difference in knitting styles around the world, I just barely remember "knit one pearl two" from when I was a kid)
She is looking for knitters in Germany who can knit patters based on *german pattern instructions* as follows:
>The way it would work is that we would send you the patterns as they are
>to be printed. The yarn can be sourced from internet sites OR some can be
>ordered from the companies whose yarn we are choosing they normally supply
>yarn for free for a check knit. The yarn can then go directly to the
>knitter, so it doesn¹t matter where they are- in Germany would be best. We
>would then supply the knitter with the pattern and we could devise a
>'report' form for them although if when they start the yarn obviously
>isn¹t going to work (this might be the case occasionally) we'd like them
>to tell us immediately.
>
>If the project goes ahead (it's just a test right now) we would probably
>find an expert in Germany so that would help solve the language problem.
>
>Generally we find that check knits take about 3 weeks although our
>schedule on this job is horrible so we would want a general 'this seems
>OK, or this seems not OK' from the knitter once they've done about a
>week's worth of
>knitting.
>
>We have 16 patterns that need urgently checking...
>
>We have a budget of £40 per item - some are smaller and some are bigger so
>this is a general figure. A hat and
>mittens would be less, say £25; a big jumper more say £50.
Pass this on if you know anyone who might be interested.
Contact Beth directly if you are interested: Beth Johnson
<beth@creative-plus.co.uk>.

Sep 29 2005, 8:57 am
Does Beth know that German patterns are written completely from English ones and are much harder to follow? Germans would probably find a translation of an English one much easier.

Sep 29 2005, 9:02 am
I have no idea - really - I was just passing the information on. Chance for some euros on the side I thought. Ask her, she sounds pretty easy to talk to. (I got this over a translator's list, I don't know her myself - I don't knit, unfortunately).

Is stitch and bitch still going on? I'm new to Munich and I'd like to come with my berlin woolwork but i'm a bit nervous! while I'm at this does anyone know where I can get craft supplies (not knitting) in Munich? the department stores have plenty of dressmaking stuff but no canvases/wools for tapestry/embroidery. thanks all
don't know if it's still going on, but re the crafts stores: put craft into the search field (at the top of every page) and ye shall find the thread on that topic.
Nicky
Oct 28 2005, 9:32 pm
Can't believe the big department stores don't have stuff. I bought a tapestry in Kaufring recently for a present - I'm sure the big
Hertie at
Hauptbahnhof has stuff. Anyone going to Stitch and Bitch this Sunday?

Oct 28 2005, 10:38 pm

Hey there!
Didn't see your reply until too late for me to come out. Wasn't sure if the group still met, and didn't want to show up and no one be there. So, hoping to come next Sunday. You usually meet around 6 or so, and still at the Twisted Bavarian? Let me know for sure! Sheena.

Nov 29 2005, 8:42 pm
Yes, let's make it 6 o'clock Stitch and Bitch. P'raps the other stitchers and bitchers on TT will come along this Sunday too? If anyone feels like beginning I'm sure we can find a ball of yarn and some needles to practise with. Hopefully Roz will be back and between the two of us we can show beginners how to cast on and get started. Is the coffee machine up and running? Or better still, the Glühwein machine?
