Cancelling an Arcor subscription

How to do it

Hi, I am leaving Germany soon and my 1 year contract with Arcor end next month. I wish to cancel the subscription at the end of next month so that they will send me the bill before I leave in the middle of next month. However, I went to Arcor website and is left clueless about what I have to do. I called them up and apparently the person can't speak English.

Anyone knows what to do? Any numbers to fax to cancel the subscription? Or fax number that I can send to? Or email address?

Be sure to tell them you are leaving Germany. Arcors recent contracts call for 3 months notice before the end of the year or they renew for a further year. Give them an unassailable reason for you to break any renewal. Leaving Germany is one of the best...
ReV
To contact them online, I need to have the username and password but when I keyed in my username and password, it o be honest, I have never use this online username and password before so I am not sure if it is working. I have only used the other username and password which activate the online service. I guess I have to write to them. Is it ok to write to them in English? Or is there a place or office that I can go to to approach the person in charge directly?

I'm also with Arcor for about a year and am also leaving Germany soon. According to my contract the notice period is one month to the end of the quarter. I.e. give notice by end of Feb to cancel contract in March. Otherwise you got to wait till June. As YL6 says, they may have changed the T&C on the contracts, so yours may be different

Anyway you must give written notice that you want to cancel your contract. The address I was told to send this to is

Arcor AG & Co. KG
Alfred-Herrhausen-Allee 1
65760 Eschborn

Here's a sample text, cut and paste from my own Kündigungsbrief.

I know Arcor - they are B**st**ds and don't let go of a customer easilly. You should advise them in the letter that after your cancellation date they no longer have any right to deduct money from your bank account. You should also send the letter registered mail so you have evidence you sent it (they have a reputation for "losing" letters and "forgetting" phone conversations). Send it with "Einschreiben mit Rückschein" so you actually get a card back acknowleging delivery so there is no argument later.
ReV
Wow, thanks a lot guys for the precious advice. I will send the registered letter to them tomorrow. Arcor sounds so scary. I guess if they ever send payment to me after I have left Germany, I will not pay them a single cent! (I will keep the registered mail receipt wink.gif )

Anyway, how to tell the post office that I want a registered mail in German?

I have only heard about Arcor in the UK, but the experiences are much as reported here.
They will do everything to find clauses disallowing you from easily terminating your contract.
ReV
OOps I missed that out. Thanks for the reply!

I have only heard about Arcor in the UK...

You must be the only one then, because they don't trade there. Even www.arcor.co.uk is a placeholder...

Important update: I was on the phone to arcor just now, and they told me that I sent the Kuendigungsbrief to the wrong address (see above post from me). It should have been sent to

Arcor AG & Co. KG
Postfach 102563
45025 Essen

Apparatly the other address is only the address for exiting your contract within the first two weeks of signing it, not for cancelling it later mad.gif

So, the lady on the phone recommended that I fax the Kuendigungsbrief to 0181070011 tomorrow (28 Feb) so that I wouldn't have to wait till next June.
