The Bible says that in the last days there will be people doing crazy things to show 'religiousness'..
like forbidding to marry, not eating certin foods..etc...etc..I guess this is one such nonsense...
Chapter & verse, please. The quiet period of Good Friday (why is it "good"?) is meant to be out of respect for the recently departed King of Kings. It has nothing to do with the end of the world being nigh.

I can just see it now, the end of the world is upon us, the 4 bikers of the Apocalypse are cruising down
Kaufingerstr in sheer defiance of it's pedestrian zoning, there's wailing and gnashing of teeth as the non-believers are struck down by the big man with his celestial lightsaber and I'm gonna take it upon myself to chuck in my chocolate covered marshmallow habit.

Maybe someone should call a city council meeting and recite the same passages Kevin Bacon took from the bible in Footloose.
"there is a time to dance."
Only I don't think catholics read the bible. They take their marching orders from the pope. Anyway, I'm happy to be away from all that nonsense. Greetings from sunny and warm Miami!

1 Thimothy 4:
1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
It is good because without CHrist dying for us we all Go to HELL!

I have a question about the day...will stores and museums in the city be open on Good Friday? I have guests in from out of town and thought I might take them to Tegernsee...but this thread is making me wonder whether people will be super observant about Good Friday and the
beer gardens will be closed. (Gasp.) Please don't tell me to do a google search. I have been online for too long trying to find an answer to my question. Thanks!!!

Licensed premises may well be open but may have different hours. Check.
I imagine that stores (shops) will be closed on Monday (Easter Monday) also.
So stock up!
If the spoilsports on the city council ban naked rollerblading again this year I'm going to start burning effigies in
Marienplatz.

I just discovered that Italy, home of Catholicism, has a normal working day tomorrow. Sacrilege.
By normal, I mean Italian normal, which might as well be a holiday, but at least the shops'll be open. Via Montenapoleone for me!

Hi,
just wanted to note that there have been many tries to abolish this silly "Tanzverbot". But never really worked (see
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanzverbot).
There was supposed to be a party, organized by the "Bund für Geistesfreiheit" at the Oberanger-theather today with movies, chocolate buffet and some music, but the Diocese of Munich and Freising filed a lawsuit and won. Movie yes but no music band (see
http://www.religionsfreie-zone.de/karfreitag2007.htm). Sorry, all articles in german.
So everybody who wants to "refresh the soul" (that's what the law for the protection of the holidaus said) rather with goint out than praying (and of course participating against the discrimination of atheists):
Oberanger-Theater (http://www.oberanger-theater.de/s/anfahrt.php)
"Chocolat" (5 pm)
"Wer früher stirbt ist länger tot" (8 pm)
movie each 7,5 Euros incl. chocolate-buffetAlex

Isn't it only reasonable that we select a weekend of the year to round up all the catholics and force them to dance to loud pumping music under strobe lights? And fine them if they don't comply. I think thatÄs pretty fair. I mean, we are supposed to insist our various ideas on each other right? That's how these things work.
I would be deeply offended and call the police if I caught anyone not having fun.

Oh for the love of Jesus Christ, I've just discovered that my birthday falls on Good Friday next year. After four years in the wilderness, trying to have fun in an empty pub on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and finally this year a Wednesday night, trying to persuade people to sit with me or even in the same pub as me after about 10.30pm, each of those years looking ahead with a twinkle in my eyes to the grand yet distant date of 21 March 2008, when I can finally celebrate my birthday on a Friday night, and have a party in a crowded pub or — heaven forbid — actually a nightclub of some description, and actually have some fun and maybe, just maybe, get lucky, along come the Caffliks who measure the distance between the moon and the sun and their anus and proudly decree that in 2008 Good Friday should coincide with MY birthday and that I will therefore be forced to celebrate said event in a museum cafeteria or somewhere equally acceptable to the Establishment. Bloody Christians.
