Yum Thai Kitchen and Bar

A Thai restaurant Munich - highly recommended

I'm originally from New Zealand (and just before moving to Munich, I lived in Sydney, Australia). I guess that service in restaurants in the rest of the english-speaking world are as good as those back home, and I've figured that German restaurant service can lacking by our standards.

Anyway, I found a really nice Thai restaurant called Yum Thai Kitchen and Bar about 3 minutes walk from Viktualienmarkt. I've been there about 6 or 7 times now, because the service and the food is so good. The website has the menu in English.

Wasn't too keen on the whole fried fish I had once, only because I had to pick out bones. I love the Pad Thai in the permanent specials section.

I'd definitely recommend it if you like Thai food. I don't like spicy food, but I love the flavor.

Hint: Get a table around the back or side - the atmosphere and decor is better. And, book ahead. Lasy year, I once tried booking for a table on Friday or Saturday, but they were already booked out on Tuesday.

PS. I don't own the restaurant or work for them.

i cannot recommend their pad thai. the worst i have had in munich (too sweet, not tangy enough and basically horrible). don't know about the other dishes...

pootle and I go to Yum 2 Take, their more casual place on the corner of Sebastiansplatz, quite often. He likes the red curry, I like the peanut noodles. Chairs are a bit funny and it is a lot cheaper than Yum. Plus they can't lose your reservation as there aren't any, it's a snack and run joint.

I think Yum Thai is not bad but far too expensive. We found Yum 2 take and it was not too bad either.

Had the pad thai there a month or so ago and thought it was fine, just slightly too sweet and a little too much sauce. A little on the expensive side, but tasty enough.

I was at Yum2Take, sitting on the Sebastianpl and I was very happy with my food... but I am not too fussy. wink.gif

I have been there are few times and the food is good albeit dear. The last two times (last May) we had unusually bad service - slow, wrong dishes arriving, and then stuff ups with the bill (other peoples dishes in addition to our own) The waiter we had was totally spaced out and not very responsive when trying to sort out the bill...(read argumentative) A shame because on earlier visits we had no problems. LIke others above we have taken to going to their take away/fast food service across from the Schrannenhalle.
