Our T-Online is currently offline

Just our connection, or a widespread problem?

Scogs says he can't get online, we use t-online at home. Anyone else experiencing problems?
Crawlie
Well, urrmmm, if they were then, urrrmmm, how would they be able to, like, post it on here?
brokenm
That's like the question I always hate, "Is everybody here?" If you're not, how do you answer?
Crawlie
"Are you awake?"
brokenm
"Have you been flossing"
brokenm
"Can you hear me in the back?"
byrdbrain
Hell-o!!! Maybe you have heard from others on the grapevine or via more modern media about problems? I didn't ask, "Any of you having problems?" but "Anyone else ..."
arshoo
simple those not here please raise their hands laugh.gif

@byrdbrain, we are in Schwabing and the net is working fine.
Crawlie
"Let me know if you do not get this message"

The only input I can give on this is that other providers that use the same hardware (i.e. GMX) is still working ok in the Petuelring/Schwabing area which is very close.

Of course this does not rule out problems with the t-online logon servers etc
byrdbrain
Now that's the kind of answer I really appreciate. Scogs says no pop server or something like that. He's calling their hot-line, we just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a general failure that they are already working on.
Everyone else, just fill in between the gaps biggrin.gif

Hardly a good technical description of the problem which will lead to an immediate solution, whoever is asked (and here is the last place I'd start). You can check registered service interruption for the main providers here
Scogs
Hi Folks
Thanks for the info all working again now, the PPPoE server had "lost" our details and 6 phone calls to the help desk before they admitted it was their fuck up and they had to reset our accout manually

Urgent: Any problems with T-Online being down?

Yep all the time and that is why I switched! tongue.gif
byrdbrain
Rant begins here. T-Online had notified us that they would switch us from the former high-speed connection to DSL 2000, which is enough for normal mortals. Today was switch day, and according to their notification the switch would procede "without any interruption to your service". Dogs' botox.
All of the sudden in the middle of an e-mail - bang - the service dies. As soon as I got home I was on the phone with these guys. Or rather, I dialled their number, went through three levels of the automatic call-center and was then told, "Our lines are all busy, try again later". But I'm stubborn, and after the sixth try I got through to hold where I stayed for a loooooong time (€0.12 per minute).
Then I got First Help Desk who pinged the line and said, "By God, your service is down!". I explained that that was why I was calling. He reset the connection and still didn't get through, then (but only then) did he ask if the DSL modem was turned on. Well, duh. Course.
After about six minutes of this he said he would pass the description of the error to a techie. I mentioned as how Scogs needs the internet professionally and by the way, T-Online is getting themselves in danger of being sued for damages for any missed time and income Scogs suffers and make this message to the techie red-alert priority and call us back as soon as the line is fixed, even at 2 am, thank you very danke. Total length of the call (with waiting time) 18 minutes.
And believe it or not, about twelve minutes later the phone rings, the techie says, "You're back on-line again", hallelujah (angels' choir in the background, halos shine around the monitors).
The error was - of course - T-Online's: The automatic script hadn't kicked in and the techie had to put it in manually.
All in all, the customer service (once I got through to it) was satisfactory enough and the problem (once recognized) was quickly solved. My rant is more about the fact that a problem occurred at all after I had been reassured in writing that all would go smoothly.
Rant over. Thanks for all the advice and cheering remarks.

Actually, I can confirm this...yesterday evening around 6:30 my coworker was trying call T-Online's internal phone system and it was down...something like "all circuits are busy". Funny...you should see their SLAs...

Not a chance in hell, unless you have a Business Tarif with T-Online, where they guarantee to respond and fix/replace a line within 24 hours...
byrdbrain
It helps when I mention that I work for a lawyer ... Besides, they had guaranteed in writing (and bold font) that there would be no interruption.
YorkshireLad6
Far be it from me to argue with anyone that works for a lawyer, but no ISP can (or does) make such a rash guarantee. At least not without millions of exclusions ("act of God", "beyond our control", and such like).

my T-DSL home connection has been down since last night - anyone else having problems in the munich city centre area?

How can I call (english would be great), to get the line checked etc?

thnx
Saz
Try calling their service team: +49 (0)180 / 5 54 40 33
Usually someone in their support team speaks English, but they might put you on hold for a bit while they go and find the only English speaker.

I'm still fascinated by the fact that ppl manage to post while their dsl is offline... wink.gif
egg
its odd, i have a home life, and a work life. Mind Blowing!!! :-)
egg
oh, and thanks for the number!! ;-)
Carm
I have Tonline DSL- and I have had no problems, but call the number above, I never had problems with them. Sometimes you just need to reset your box.
egg
thanks carm. I'm sure that it's just me - maybe my box is kaput. But checking with telekom would at least help ...

cheers.
Carm
When I have called, they have always walked me thru everything step by step, checking that all the plugs are connected right, the box is reset (there is a small button in the back to push), they check all this to see if its their problem or your problem.
I have usually called them frustrated, and even though I speak german, often they have spoken English with me, and even called me back the next day to check how things are.
YorkshireLad6
Don't confuse Telekom and T-Online. They are different. Assuming you have internet access via T-Online then there are two possible scenarios:
  • You have internet access from T-Online and T-DSL from Telekom. In which case start by calling Telekom to have the line checked - 08003302000 (free). They can usually check the line on the spot, and tell if there is a fault, and/or if your equipment is correctly connected
  • You have both internet access and DSL from T-Online. In this case you need to call 0180 5 54 40 33 (12cents/minute) to have it checked.
Note that most NEW accounts (say less than 6 months) have DSL and Internet access from T-Online. Older accounts are slowly being migrated. If in doubt, call Telekom first (as it's free). They'll soon tell you if they don't own the line. If it is a DSL fault and the line is sold to you by T-Online it can take longer to analyse and fix the problem, as they have to pass the problem onto a third party (Telekom, ironic as it may seem). Both fault reporting numbers often have English speakers. If you don't get one on the first call, drop the call and start again.

quick update: resetting my box 2 times fixed the problem! rolleyes.gif
YorkshireLad6
Seems like the words teacup and storm spring to mind...
egg
aye. however, the first thing I did was reset the box twice. And then again the next morning. Twice. And then the phone calls etc. Only then did a reset do the job... so who knows! Oh, and it IS a storm when you're trying to download the latest ep. of Lost and 24!! :-)

That is VERY confusing, Deutsche Telekom owns T-Online blink.gif
YorkshireLad6
It has a majority share but they run independantly...
maverick
typical DT, they suck big time... customer service doesnt exist in Deutschland believe me... just go to a german restaurant
YorkshireLad6
Nice comment - clear, meaningful, well explained, justified and to the point. Well, one out of six isn't bad, I suppose.
