Eisteddfods - music competitions for children

Does such a thing exist for kids in Munich?

Hello all,

I am just curious to know whether there is such a thing as an Eisteddfod or local Music Competition for children in Munich. I am not talking high-level competition, but rather a small friendly local event at which children can have the chance to perform on their instrument for a small crowd. It should also be a chance for them to see other children their age performing. The very LAST thing it should be is a competitive atmosphere that discourages children from playing.

So ... does such a thing exist here? Are there any parents who have entered their children into such an event?

Thanks very much! smile.gif

P.S. Just in case "Eisteddfod" is not a well-known word ... it actually means "An annual competitive festival of Welsh poets and musicians" or "Am assembly or session of the Welsh bards; an annual congress of bards, minstrels and literati of Wales, -- being a patriotic revival of the old custom." Strangely enough we Australians have adopted the word and it is widely applied to annual drama and musical competitions.

mmmm. I 've never heard of the word Eisteddfod being used for anything but THE Eisteddfod. Since this is a welsh language event, I doubt there will be one in Munich.

There is a state school for music and singing on the Monteglas strasse (or the side street from it) just over the bridge from Tivolistrasse. They may be able help you on your search for a kiddies music fest.

Edit: This isn't the address i was referring to but seems to be the official address for the building i was referring to:

There is Jugend musiziert. It's a nationwide competition, with several levels. When I was in school I knew people who entered, the ones that managed to practice every day for more than 10 minutes (so: not me). They usually did it every year, so at least the first level seems to have been fun.
Getting a nationwide first price, however, meant you'd probapbly be good enough to become a pro.

yeah i think the original poster stressed that she wanted something "non-competitive". I understood her to be looking for something that was just about the fun of performing and putting on a show rather than trying to win prizes. Not sure how a national competition fits into her ideas but it may be worth looking at it.
