@Topsy
I love it when people who live in Munich (which is basically a Caucasian ghetto in a police state) start to question the logic of stringent immigration regulations, which in this case thankfully go beyond knowing the local tongue. I would love to organize a TT event in Brussels or Paris so that people could see for themselves the damage that was done thirty to forty years ago through liberal immigration policy.

@ER

In this day and age I can't agree with that statement. We need to ensure that immigrants are fully willing and capable of integrating into Western society, there's no two ways about it.

@Ulysses
Yes, but the problem is that that never actually happens.

It will eventually. The extremists are digging a nice grave for themselves and unfortunately for their compatriots too.

I love it when the Anglophones start yabbering on about integration and language tests and the like, really I do.
Some of the same people (although not all, I hasten to add) will brag in the Irish bar about how they've been here years and not learnt any more than basic German because, well - they don't need to, do they? They mix mainly with ex-pats anyway.

Was willst du damit sagen?

Like what sort of damage JW?
Topsy
*drums fingers on desk, waiting impatiently for examples of damage caused by evil immigrants*

I'm going to get a bite to eat. BRB.

By the way, "damage" was more referred to the careless policy makers than the immigrants themselves.

It sort of reminds of the old language test that Australia used to implement during the White Australia Policy times of the 60s. To make it non-discriminatory, all immigrants used to have to take a languauge test. But the test was in any language chosen by the immigration officer. So if you were an educated east Asian, you might find yourself being given a test in Swahili.

Bingo, Topsy. I suspect there are many who read TT who are themselves not assimilated into German society. Hardly applicable to short termers, though - I am referring to those permanent resident aliens and long-term residents. This brings up another point...

Learn the language and the customs, people! Don't form mini-societies of your own kind and isolate yourselves. Sure it may be comfortable, but you've got to mix the familiar with the new. No matter how bizarre the Germans may seem to you (and they are rather strange sometimes), you've got to live with them, so might as well get to know what makes them tick.

Foreigners are just as responsible as the governments for isolationism. It's easy to finger point and say the government is to blame, such as with the situation in France, but the people who are complaining and burning cars are themselves partially to blame because they don't make enough of an effort to integrate themselves, and sit back and wait for the government to fix everything for them.

2 cents more in the bucket!

Whatever floats your boat. rolleyes.gif
@Ulysses
Feeling ok, mate? huh.gif I detect non-aggresive behaviour towards me. Makes me all worried about your health. Re Berlin and Munich, you got it all wrong, hon. But nice theory.
canaryman
MB. No prejudice here..

As for your ramblings...Water...blown out of...by almost everyone. (Well, someone had to agree with your drivel.

I read up on my history (as you suggested) Have you read up on the "Handycapped"?

Anyway, its late but thank you for addressing all the issues that the various posters had with your various statements in your last post, we all feel the more educated for it.

@Canaryman

I am tired of fighting with you, have a instead. I am handing them out today.
canaryman

@Canaryman
I wasn't arguing with anybody else but you, really. If other people started arguing with me as well it's their own business. But ok, if anybody else wants one - here are some more flowers for you too!
canaryman
Thank you smile.gif
