Thanks for the update - we had a proper blizzard here in town just a little while ago, now it's bright and sunny. My husband is on his way to the airport right now, that's why I'm wondering what the weather is like out there.

Last year the beer gardens opened for the season at the end of March. Not that weather patterns repeat themselves from year to year, but it's a thought to hang on to when you're up a roof.

My vermieterin says that it will snow til April.
And she also said it is supposed to another rainy summer.

unfortunately it probably will be too hot. Last summer was too hot for me (the few times it was actuially hot).

I'd be quite happy with snow all year round but the summer does make a nice break from it I suppose.

We have our first home game of Aussie Rules on 1 April.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we'll be playing it in the snow.

Pissed off since I missed a meeting after spending two hours on a 15 minute commute.

Part of it behind an audi that couldn't go into first gear without slipping around the ring. Stupid stupid people !

Perhaps that's because second gear might be a better option in this weather

First gear! Especially on an icy, snow-covered hill. Idiots. And if you let the clutch out reaaallly slooowwlly you might not slide that big ass van all over the place in the lane next to mine. Idiots.

And now that I missed my meeting I get to go right back out into it - hopefully I can make it to Lerchenau before 2 pm. grrr..

best to start off in second gear on these roads as Jeeves pointed out, DDBug. Something to do with the "Drehmoment", I believe.

Plus Rob and I have to drive back from Munich to Frankfurt today (at 15:00). Last time it took us 7 hours 'cause of the damn white stuff

If you start in second (or third even) instead of first then there is less emphasis on the driver having to use delicate clutch control to limit the torque to the wheels as the gears reduce it for you.

But then you are more likely to stall it. Swings and roundabouts I guess. Or swinging round the roundabouts fun styleee.. thats my choice

edit: Its funny though cos some people (well the ones I saw failing to get up a hill on my way to work) seem to think that spinning the wheels as fast as they can will magically get them up the hill. They were probably "in the right gear" though so were wondering why they were just slipping backwards into the car behind them. Quite amusing.

Well I have a RWD automatic, and sometimes there is nothing you can do to get the thing moving except hit the accelerator and let the wheels spin, possibly to well over 100kph, then suddenly the thing moves like it just got a mule's kick. Not sure why that is, perhaps the friction of the spinning wheels melts some of the snow so the tyres hit the asphalt, or simply b/c at some point the friction of the spinning wheels is high enough to move the car.

A Friend of mine has just received a severe storm warning... wind upto 120KMH...

It will more than likely be the former, the melting of the snow/ice under the tyres. At those spinning speeds, the tyres will heat up a lot too and become much softer and therefore grippier and wear out faster I guess there is not much choice in an auto though, what with no clutch to control the wheels with

But the slow spinning that most people in front wheel drive seem to do wont do much.
