Spanair seem to be the cheapest to fly to Barcelona, but I have never heard of them.

Has anyone else heard of them or had any experience?

I hate there dishes, very stupid logo, I have a hard time telling wether its air china or spanair. The on board food though is provided through lsg sky chefs. a jointly owned us lufthansa cattering company. So you will get the same type of food as you would on a Lufthansa, united airways, air china, qatar, or even emirates flight. well cooked by the same people anyway. They are deffinately a step up from easy jet or something of similar reputation. i could ask a couple of people around the airport if thy are any good. I dont think they ground any planes for matinance here so i wont be able to tell you the downlow on the ground maintanence the planes receive.

Spanair part of Star Alliance Group, as are Lufthansa. relatively new aircraft, good maintenance etc No problem.

does being part of the star allianz make your planes more safe? I though it just ment i could travel a lot of places damb cheep.
bluedave
Means they are part of a professional alliance with shared servicing facilities and strict maintenance procedures.

I thought they used old SAS planes? Thats about the limit of my knowledge on spanair. I guess I've never heard of one falling out of the sky, so they will most likely get you from A to B (perhaps delayed)

Used them a few times, but not for a while. Economy class is average, business class was ok, but they did still have "3-across" seats in business class - not very spacious.

For an hour+ trip to spain - go for it. The Spanair counter in Barcelona is very convienent for check in, and it's where I always get dropped off by the taxi no matter which airline I'm on leaving Barcelona.

I´ve used them a few times from the U.S. to Spain. Very satisfactory. Granted, the last time I flew with them was about 4 years ago...at the time were great! Viva Espana.

I booked a flight with these bozos for the first time today. Their website kept crashing or fell victim to the Al Gore virus (counting and counting and counting), this about nine times. I did manage to book a flight then my boss changed his mind. I called their telephone hotline and got a long advertising hype about cheap flights etc. and a thank you for waiting. And waiting. And waiting. And the hype over and over again.
I finally got someone on the phone who did speak very good English, she took down my request and put me on hold for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time until she or the system hung up.
Cursing, I called again, didn't have to wait quite so long, got a competent person on the phone, he made the changes, the confirmation e-mail arrived within two minutes, hunky-dory.
So is just their admin staff complete and utter garbage or alternatively brilliant, or will my boss experience unexpected obstacles and delays when he flies to Madrid?

I bet there are alot of Americans, of both political persuasion these days that wish the 'Al Gore virus' would have prevailed. dry.gif

Coming back to this after a cooling down period of almost a week. The unspeakable idiots at Spanair could not organize a knot-tying contest in a snake pit! The flight my boss was supposed to take was a Spanair flight serviced by Lufthansa, so the boss went to the Lufthansa check-in only to find that he was not on their list in spite of the booking confirmation sent by Spanair. As the flight was due to leave in an hour's time he bought a second ticket and commissioned me with getting the original ticket refunded.
First, I couldn't get hold of anyone at Spanair in spite of being on hold for almost half an hour. Then I found a number in Germany and called it. The air-head at the other end said that she could do nothing for me, but call this number in Frankfurt. Frankfurt said, Whiskey Tango Foxtrott do I have to do with this, call this number - and gave me the one who had referred me to him. I began to erupt but still kept my cool, called the German number again and talked to a person who at least had a tape recorder in her head because all she said was that I must contact Lufthansa as it was a Lufthansa flight.
No. My contract is with Spanair, so Spanair solves any problems and squares up with its partner afterwards.
No, you must contact Lufthansa, this is a recording, No, you must contact ...
Lady, your service is absolutely substandard. I take no leave of you.
Calling Lufthansa after that was pure joy, a very competent woman sympathized with my woes, engineered the refund and laughed bitterly when I mentioned the service standard at Spanair.
So, like Cousin Avi in Snatch, all I can say is, "Don't fly them!"
