Ok, I am impressed.
I probably take about the same time for a sprint tri.

For the swimming meet up, can anyone just come along? I'm not that fast and a few tips would be welcome (if I can haul myself out of bed then).

I would also be interested in doing a time trial or two. I've done some before and I really enjoyed it.

Bron

P.S. There is no way I am as fast as Tench though.
kitkat64
Hey Tench and Bron,

I know a guy who does these time trialing thingies. I can ask him. He is the same crazy guy who led us on the 75km mountain bike trip from Tegernsee to Schliersee via Valepp...crazy guy.
Fair Play
I'd be interested in the swiimimg meet up aswell, would be nice if someone could tell me where I'm wasting all
my energy blink.gif
Fair Play
Hi, Well I've entered for the sprint distnce on Sunday,

Just wondering if there anyone as some last minute advice for a beginner??

Also about how long it takes to get setupo and regestered etc???
stanford
FairPlay,

I shall be there as well - it will be my 2nd Sprint this year...but I'm also a beginner and swim like a brick - so you don't want any advice from me.

Okay I've got some Enjoy it!!!
Fair Play
Stanford,

I will try, guess I'll enjoy it more once I cross the finish line :-)
Fair Play
any idea how warm/cold the water will be, I'm guess a wet suit is not required???
stanford
You know what Fairplay, The one I did a few weeks back was in shitty weather...so cold rain and wind but I still enjoyed it whilst doing it...I suppose it was the satisfaction and pride...

Of course once I'd finished I enjoyed it even more!!!
Bron
Markus and I are signed up too.

Can't think of any words of wisdom, apart from remember it's supposed to be fun.
Oh, and don't miss the briefing (8:45)

Are you going there by train?
If you want to say hello, Markus is very tall, I am very short and we both ride bianchi bikes.

Good luck,
Bron
Bron
It says on the website that Tegernsee is 20°C and may reach 22°C by Sunday.
You are allowed to wear a wetsuit up to 24.9°C, so if you like swimming in it go ahead. I'm not, because I was too tight to fork out for one.

Bron
Fair Play
22C sounds like I don't need it thats plenty warm for me.

Don't know how I plan to get there yet as a friend of mine is doing it as well and he might drive down.

but I'll keep my eye out :-)

Maybe we'll have to get some TT tri gear sponsored :-)
Fair Play
Hi All.

Well how did people get on?

For me I was happy to hit the finish line .

I finished in 1h35min which I was happy enough with as I spent most of the cycle
watching people zip by me on their raod bike as I struggled around on my mountain bike.
Well thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it biggrin.gif

So next time I hope to have a road bike to help improve my time.

But I've no doubt I will be back biggrin.gif

It was a great day and I really enjoyed it (after I crossed the finish line of course smile.gif )
Bron
Well, I finished.
I thought it was a really nice triathlon, well organised, nice bike course, good weather.
My knee gave up during the cycling and I had to pedal with one foot, so my overall time was terrible. I was happy not to come last though.

@Fair play. Were you the bloke wearing an "Ireland" cycling jersey? If so, you passed me near the end of the cycling section.

Bron
Fair Play
@ Bron

Yep the guy with the big red face and the "Ireland" cycling top on was me

guess it made me easy to spot biggrin.gif
mere
congrats on finishing guys! what were the distances? doing any more this summer/fall?
Fair Play
mine was the sprint distance and that was enough for me biggrin.gif

Hope to do more and build it up but I've nothing planned.

I need to do more training and get a road bike... rolleyes.gif
Bron
I did the sprint too. 500m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

I am thinking of doing the one at the BUGA site. Info on http://www.muenchentriathlon.de/
Just depends on what the quack says about my knee.

@mere, are you going to do one too? Go on, it's fun, in a masochistic sort of way.

Bron
Fair Play
@mere, you should do it, you get a great sense of achievement when you cross the finish line.
It makes it worth the effort

@bron, do you know if there are any other triathlons on close to Munich with that distance other then the one above as that's on the day after my sisters wedding so I fear I would be in no state to even stand at the start line never mind try to swim, cycle or run biggrin.gif
bugs
Hi everyone

Sorry for short notice - will probably go again Wednesday...

Is anyone up for riding out to Regattabadsee, swimming across (about 500m) and riding back this evening(Monday)? The ride is about 30km in total (depending from where you start). There is some off-road, so MTB/cross is needed rather than road bike (distance is too short for road anyway smile.gif

Leave around 6pm from the Olympiapark area... let me know if you want to join - the lake is brilliant for swimming in - clean water and very calm.

Cheers
Bugs
mere
@Bron and Fair Play- well i'm nowhere close to being in shape, but that has yet to deter me! i'm considering it if i can find something fun (and easy!). i've done Triathalons and other random events before.
stanford
Hi Guys,

Hope you all had fun on those hills...

...I finally got to finish after being denied entry because I had a inlining helmut. Don't ask...actually do ask...my girfriend kept telling me not to buy a cycle helmust since they look so stupid...and so stupid me didnt and got refused entry until the last minute when we found someone with a cycle helmut.

Anyhow, I was last at the swim again...(well 2nd to last I think the last person was out for a stroll in the water)...the cycling went okay but afterward I realised I've got to improve on that (57m average was around 42m). The run was relatively easier than last time except for that middle steep bit..(my legs didn't feel as dead).

Overall I've got a time of 1hr and 42m - 6 places from last...it is an improvement on my last time of 2hr and 5mf (5th from last) (400m,21,5.9) which I calculate as a 12% improvement.

So - it's swimming lessons and so cycle training for me for the next one...

PS. I prefer flat triathlons!!! smile.gif

PS2. Where's the triathlon with lots of unfit people so I can come in the middle the real volks triathlon...it would do wonders for my confidence...

i'm with you both of those points, especially the last one. when you find that triathalon give me a shout! smile.gif
Bron
@mere the BUGA triathlon should be easy enough. It looks like it's all flat anyway.

@fair play, couldn't see any more sprint triathlons close to Munich, sorry, but there may be some that I don't know about.

Well, if my knee hasn't recovered in time, does anyone want to do a relay with me for the BUGA tri? The problem seems to surface on the bike, so I can still swim (slowly) and run.

Bron

Hi all

Water in the Regattabadsee was really warm yesterday. Does anyone want to join tomorrow - I was thinking of
doing a longer (road) ride after swimming? Maybe 40km or so... Let me know.

Cheers
b
Bron
Photos are up from Tegernsee, so you you all want to see yourselves looking pained and strained, the link is on the Tegernsee tri page.

@bugs, sounded like a great idea, but my knee is recovering still.

Who else is signing up for the BUGA tri? Come on mere, you know you want to...

Bron
stanford
Thanks Bron I'll have a look...
mere
@Bron. tomorrow i'm going to do a brick workout and i'll do the bike/run part of the distance for Buga. if i don't die and can walk on sunday then i'll sign up (i have to verify i'm not working at that time too) okay smile.gif
but seeing as i haven't done ANY workout for uhh... a year we'll see how doing this brick will go
saschakurz
sorry to butt in late..but when is this BUGA tri ?

and what are the distances ?

cheers

sascha
stanford
Saschakurz,

The links are earlier on in this thread...

Guys, I think my next one will be Kuehback...that looks interesting 700m swim, 33km bike, 6 km run. I'm hoping to stop being one of the stradlers and come in on the tail end of average. It will mean learning to swim faster and doing some bike training...

How can someone's front crawl i.e. mine be slower than some people's crap breast stroke i.e. (head of water style)...I'm doing something Soooo fcuking wrong!!!

Stanford - the brick swimmer...
Fair Play
@Stanford

When is Kuehback tri on and where?? sounds like it could be interesting
and as for the swimming if you find out the secret can you pass it on to me tongue.gif
stanford
Kuehback or something - the link

there's the link it looks interesting - however it may be a bit soul distroying as you do rounds...so if you are a stradler like me I'll just see people lapping me. It could be better than my normal state which is to be last out of the swim and then go for a bike ride on my own...and only to see a few people running at the end!!!

Edited: It is on the 21st August.
Fair Play
@stanford, thanks I think I might have a go at this as well and we can battle it out for last place tongue.gif
stanford
Fairplay,

Since at Tegernesee, I came 6th last place and Erding was 5th last place...I'm sure that I'll be somewhere at the back...

I'm pretty fit and can handle the distances but I am just damm slow...I swim slow, I ride a bike slow and I jog slow...in fact that's a lie I'm bloody fast at 60 or 100metres!! I propose we do a 100metre Triathlon...100 metres swim, bike and run...(shit I'd still lose because of the swim...).

Na ja...off to Manchester will do some training tomorrow morning...Ship Canal for the swim...I think... smile.gif

Laters..train to catch...
Fair Play
@Standford

just to note that the date above looks to be wrong seems to be
on the Samstag, den 26. August 2006
stanford
Thank Fairplay,

I can't read as well as swim!!!
So Called Arthur King
Hey Fellas,
I don't know if you know but there's a company triathlon coming up in a couple of weeks, far less strain as it's a relay so you only have to find a couple of people at work and do one leg each. Just to make it a true Sunday stroll it's sprint distance too!

Munich Firmen Triathlon

Are there any other local triathlons coming up over the next few weeks? I'm out of practice but did a couple a few years back and am quite keen to get back into it.

This is my first post for a long time and I am proud to announce that Tench and myself are rejoining the human race after completing Ironman Austria last Sunday. For those of you how are interested here are our times from 2288 starters:

Finish No. Swim/Rank Trans 1 Bike/Rank Trans 2 Run/Rank Total Time

Tench 192 1:07:55/801. 04:00 5:10:31/242. 03:05 3:30:53/144. 09:56:25
Pascoe 1039 1:00:05/329. 06:52 6:24:36/1645. 06:09 4:06:31/673. 11:44:16

I have to say congrats to tench who in his frist IM managed to place in the top 10% and also was the 11th quickest Briton in the race, so if you need any bike or run training he is the man to talk too smile.gif

This was my first and last IM and I have to say to anyone mad enough to do it, go on its definitely something you will never regret or forget for the rest of your life!!!
Bron
Wow, hats off to both of you! I'd be happy with either of those running times, let alone having done the swim and bike legs beforehand.

On a lower note, looks like my triathlon season is over due to itbs in my left knee sad.gif . The doctor did say (grudgingly) that I am allowed to swim, but no cycling or running for a couple of weeks. If anyone fancies doing a relay for the München tri on 30th July, let me know. I'm not the fastest swimmer, so it would be a no-pressure, just for fun race.

Also if anyone wants to meet up for swim training, let me know. Markus and I tend to go to the Dantebad in the evenings.

Pascoe fails to mention that his swim time was only 8 seconds behind the last male pro and he also beat 3 female pros. ohmy.gif

So, if you need any swim training, he's your man. I'm already booked in for a lesson wink.gif

Congrats! Those are great times! (3:30 for the marathon leg of an ironman is amazing) Next is Hawaii, eh??

Question...Was the bike course hilly?
Fair Play
Well done, they are two great times and im my opinion to even finish an IM is an amazing thing

I'd imagine anyway rolleyes.gif

Thanks mate. Quite a tough place to qualify for Hawaii. Would need to improve by 30mins. ohmy.gif Maybe next year rolleyes.gif

Bike course is rolling. 1700m climbing in total so not exactly flat. Great race though. LOTS of support and the area around Kärnten is beautiful.

Did anyone sign up for the BUGA on sunday? I'm down fo rthe olympic distance. Think you can still register on saturday at the site..
markus
I am down for the Olympic distance as well (did the Wörthsee Triathlon yesterday - only Olympic distance there).
mere
have fun guys! let me know how it goes
Bron
I'll be there to cheer Markus on and take photos.
So gutted that I'm injured. Grrr.

Great! See you there then smile.gif

I'm hoping my legs wil be back to normal by sunday. I think after running up that hill twice I'll have some idea biggrin.gif
markus
The hill supposedly is only 20m high - shouldn't be too bad (I hope). The cylce ride (mostly on Wasserburger Landstrasse or whatever it is called there) should, however, be completely flat.

In Wörthsee, the run started out with a set of stairs . Fortunately, it was one loop, so they didn't come back again.
tench
How did it go Markus? I had an ok swim and bike but completely dried up on the run with a stitch and stomach cramps losing 3-4mins. It was a bit warm out there.

Should have taken water on the bike or at least weak strength energy drink. The energy drink I took tasted like weissbier that had been stood in the sun for the last week sad.gif Every time I took a sip, it came straight out again. Was frothing at the mouth by T2.. Still, you live and learn.
