Not too bad (slower than last week in Wörthsee, though, on an in principle easier course) - but the run was awful, I felt. By far too hot and no shade at all.

Need to get more training in for next year (although might to Kühbach end of August if we manage to fit it in).

From any of the triathlons, I felt this one seemed the most commercial. It was lacking in the atmosphere you get at the smaller ones like Tegernsee or Wörthsee, or even Karlsfeld.

Congratulations, by the way, for the rather good result.

I know what you mean. Reminded me a bit of the London triathlon in that respect. Still, it was pretty well organised.

Looking at the times I think alot of people were suffering on the run.

I've also signed up for Tützing in 3 weeks. Heard it's a nice race, though it's nearly full.
markus
Can't do Tutzing, unfortunately. We'll be coming back from Wales that day.

Will have to check how easy Kühbach is to get to, as it is near Augsburg.

What are the (average) times like for the olympic distance tris? I did a few back home in SA but they were quite social and I don't feel like taking part in something with only pros... Furthermore, I only have my mountain bike here - would that be a problem or do a few of the other competitors use mtb?
stanford
RogerH,

You should check out some of the links earlier on in the thread as they have times now like Erding and Tengersee.

I did the even the sprint at Erding on a Mountain back and I was the only one...and most were in clubs. So when it comes to Olympic distant it is normally serious people from what I could see...since I was so far back!!!
Fair Play
RogerH,

I've only done the Tengersee sprint distance and I was on a MTB, I felt like I was tghe only one
on a MTB but I think there was a few more there. I agree with Stanford that when it comes to the Olympic distance it seems pretty serious and road bikes all round..

I could be wrong!!!
stanford
FairPlay,

What time did you get for the ride at Tengersee...since I bought a cross trainer and was still slow as hell...57mins...

I will get those pedal things for next time...
Fair Play
Stanford,

I was the same for the bike 57:10 according to the website wink.gif

so it was

swim 12:45
bike 57:10
run 25:42

so a grand total of 1h 35m

slow and steady reaches the line that's y motto for now anyway biggrin.gif

Even in the Olympic distance at the München Triathlon in Riem (as well as in Wörthsee) there were a few people on mountain or trekking bikes, but the vast majority on road bikes.

As for average times: people take up to 4 hours, although most people will be through after 3:30 (which for some events like Karlsfeld is the cut-off time). If you expect around 3 hours you are still within the main field, I'd say, although there will always be some pros participating as well (Lothar Leder for example in Munich).

Generally the atmosphere is quite relaxed and the important thing is the finishing.
stanford
Fairplay and Co,

Just got an email from www.kuehbach-triathlon.de saying I didn't transfer the money (I forgot) and the race is full!!! Stupid me..never mind...I did a quick google a found another race and

Int. Bodensee-Tri-Challenge
am 10.09.2006

So just wanted to see if anyone will be at Keuhbach on the 26th...and/or will anyone be doing Bodensee... I might even pop down to Kuehback to cheer you lot on...

PS. Maybe it's a good thing as my training has gone to pot lately...not enuff swimming going on in my life at the moment...

@ Stanford

Thanks for the information but I'll be away on holidays for the Int. Bodensee-Tri-Challenge challenge sad.gif so won't be able to take part..

Okay, but I think that will be my last one this year and then I'm in ski mode or snow boarding mode...

I've got a pile of 20-30 magazines I need to offload before leaving germany. Mix of 220 triathlon, US Triathlete, German Triathlon, Runners World & Cycling Plus. If anyone wants them, send me a PM and you can pick them up before the end of next week..
stanford
It's the new year and it would be nice to hear whose doing what this year. I am planning to do:

Erding again (I think they moved it to later in the year (July) stop us freezing our arse off in March!) - Sprint
Tegnersee - Sprint
London Triathlon - Olympic distant. (Is there anyone else doing this one?)

I may do one more sprint after London but I think that should keep me busy for the year since I want to do some half marathons this year as well...
Enda Storey
Greetings,

Anyone got ideas on where is a good pool for training in (or where you can get lessons?). I need to improve my technique.

Also interested to participate in any running + cycling training.

Hello,

I think Markus and I will be doing a few triathlons again this year. Erding and Tegernsee are nice ones, haven´t thought about any others yet, we´re still in Langlauf mode.

If anyone wants to meet up for training sessions from April onwards that would be good.

@Enda Story, Olympiabad is good for training, 50m with lanes roped off for people who want to train. They also have training sessions there a couple of evenings a week although I have never been to one, so I have no idea how good they are. There´s information about the times on the Olypiapark website. Markus and I just coached each other last year - we´re not particularly speedy, but we made enough improvement to get through the swim leg of a tri without too many problems.
Dantebad is another nice place to train.

Hi Richard,

Great result at Erding.
Are you the bloke who wore the GB kit at the olympiapark tri 2 years ago?
Is the date for Schliersee correct? I would like to do it but thought it was on 15.7 which rules it out for me.
One more thing.. Do you know if there's much of a Timetrial scene in munich and if it's easy to get into?

cheers,
james.

James OK It's taken me a year but yes it was me in the GB kit at Munich 2 years ago ... I did the world champs for GB in 2003 (33rd) and 2004 (9th)
I'm currently competing for Landshut, and am getting more na more involved in Munich Tri/Track scene. Faris Al-Sultan trains in Ottobrun on a Monday eve for swimming. there is a great running group based at DanteStadium in the summer and a gym near Ostbahnhof in the winter. But you have to have run under 40 mins for 10km to be let in !!!
This year doing Munich (BUGA) as ti's the german champs ... then two league tri's. I did the sprint in Olympia park as was second in my age group (1st last year) but times were faster ...
Let me know what you're up to ... On the time trail front no I don't know of any ... but I'll ask a mate who is involved with a cycling team and see what comes back ...
Bron
That's pretty impressive!

Is anyone here doing Karlsfeld or Tegernsee?
We've signed up for Karlsfeld (my first Olympic distance).

I need some inspiration/ a goal to get training again

Training groups for your average punter these are usualy the best and most accessable ..

If you live in East Munich join this : http://www.solidaritaet-ismaning.de/Triathlon/triathlon.html

If you live in Munich join MRRC (tri group : http://www.mrrc.de/training/

Both have lots of English speakers ...

There are other swimming groups but as an example the Michiallibad group is quite stand offish ...
ADAC cycle club cycles from the Zoo every Wednesday at 18:00 and these are great racing bike group rides ... (2 euros for non ADAC memebers)
Also Wednesday during the winter there is a run swim group starting from DanteBad at 19:00 (run first) they go slow and are open to new people joining in ...

if you are really serious there are other alternatives ... but I mean serious ... sub 2:10 Olympic or sub 38min 10km or sub 10 hour Ironman ...
Erding Alcholfrei team train in Erding 3 times a week
Faris has a group Monday in Ottobrun
The Military university has a group that does brick sessions on the old air field in Neuperlach but they meet early 17:00 and they meet 2-3 times a week at other locations ..
There is a group who use the rowing lake at Unterschleisheim ... run/bike or run/swim sessions ...
DanteStadium Tuesday nights (18:00) for track sessions ... 16x400, 8x 600m, 5 x 800m 4x 1000m etc ...
Karlsfeld Laufcup is also a good venue for frequent races ... http://www.laeufercup.de/

That's all I'm aware of but open to new info

Hello all,

Just moved down from the north and happened upon this site.

I'm now living in Erding for the next couple of years; I believe the town might be fairly synonymous with Triathlon! I'm just getting back in to it after a 10 year break (although luckily still younger than Dave Scott was when he gave up the first time!). I did a sprint distance in June and I'm doing the Tutzing event in a couple of weeks. Has anyone here done Tutzing before? It looks like a popular event, and any info would be appreciated.

I went out with the afore-mentioned Trisport Erding group last Thursday for a 12km run. I was worried about getting a pasting from the fast group, but it was okay! They seem reasonably friendly - although you have to make the effort to speak to them... thank goodness for the 10-month intensive German course provided by Auntie Betty!

My main aim is the Ironman distance event at Roth next year (unfortunately Austria sold-out in 19hrs!), so plenty of training to be done in the meantime. Really I'm just looking to touch-base with any other triathletes in the Munich area for training, social etc. Cycling alone gets a bit boring! I rode the 'hill' from Brannenburg to Bayrishzell yesterday... that was a wake-up call to real climbs! Monchengladbach is prettty flat.

Here's hoping there are some Brits/Americans out there (I see some English names down for Tutzing)

Cheers

@ Editor - could you merge the this thread with the other two Triathlon training threads currently out there? Might be more useful...thanks smile.gif

Just to revive this thread. Not sure who is doing what this year. Last year I got an injury playing basketball so ended-up doing nothing. So I am looking forward to getting out there this year.

I have just registered for Erding and will do Tegnersee again (registration not open now). I would like to do an olympic distant at the end of the year so if anyones know of a meet in Sept do let me know.

Would be good to see what others are doing...

I hope you have fully recovered from the injury. Frustrating isn´t it?

I am planning to do the sprint at Tegernsee, Olympic distance at Karlsfeld (I´ve already signed up for this one) and possibly Wörthsee (same day as the BUGA one, but smaller and, in my opinion, more friendly).

There are some posts about training n the other triathlon thread here and the road biking thread.
