I just fail to see why
the cartoon showing Mohammed with a bomb in his turban is there on the TT front page.
Is there some link between the cartoons and TT?
brokenm

I would say desensitization to the rioters. If they realise that they can not control the free press around the world, they may start trying to do something more productive for their cause. I am certain there are islamic people and Danish people here on Toytown who are effected by this news. It is probably a poor choice for choosing the one with the bomb in the turban, but I assume that is the one which has caused the problem.

I think the question was, why on the home page? I presume it's a statement that we allow freedom of speech on TT? Hmm.

Bad taste IMHO and insulting to Islam, which considers it a taboo to create images of the prophet's face.
Would you publish similarly insulting Nazi style cartoons about Jews on the front page?
Personally I think it should be removed.

Well, according to last year's

And we've already established many times that there's no such thing as freedom of speech on TT.
So I'm still struggling to see why it's on our front page.

Since, we wouldn't under any circumstance want to offend a muslim, I've come up with a list of changes TT should implement immediately to ensure we don't offend any of our Islamic friends.
1. Delete all the accounts of women - We cannot be sure that the women will be participating with the permission of their husbands, so no more female members.
2. Delete the Adult Chat
3. Circumcision for all male TT "members"
4. No more alcohol at TT events
5. Women must cover their heads at TT events - Just to be sure.
6. Just to be safe, no Jews until they give back Palestine to the Palestinians
I guess there must be more, but this is after all a process. We'll learn together how not to offend anyone ever again.

Respect is the first step towards understanding.
This is not about respect. It is whether you believe the same as the religion. Mohammed was a real person, to draw him is not disrespectful, to draw him while believeing in the tenets of the Isalmic faith may be, but not for a person who is not Islamic. And this statement should go both directions. The idea that another culture believes and acts differently than you do or may not think it is false idoltry by printing a cartoon. o me this has distorted the whole intent of forbidding images of Big Mo from being made. They have idolized him by forbidding him to be drawn.

I was joking Topsy. Perhaps I didn't read well-enough what you wrote.
But the same people who are rioting and burning embassies in the middle east would have us converted or destroyed. Appeasement of the extremist element of Islam is a path to nowhere good. They would have us implement a theocratic society everywhere but starting in their own backyard.
We are spiralling quickly towards a full-on confrontation of ideologies. I shudder to think what the outcome will be. On the other hand, I refuse to relinquish the freedoms won over centuries of struggle against religion and ruling elite to appease a foreign religion and ruling elite.
I don't think Islam-baiting is right. But I also don't think we should limit the speech of even the most tasteless of publications in order to appease Islam. Liberty is an all-or-nothing state of affairs. You cannot be partially free.
