Bavarian authorities say the roof of a supermarket in southern Germany has collapsed.

Authorities said there has been no cause given for the accident, but Bavaria experienced heavy snowfall overnight.

The incident happened at a Netto store in Toeging am Inn.

Last month 15 people were killed, most of them children, when the snow-covered roof of an ice rink collapsed in the Bavarian town of Bad Reichenhall.

From Sky News

Töging lies to the east of Munich about 65 or so kilometres along the I94.

According to Bayern Heute the employees were able to leave, the customers may (or may not have) been protected by the shelves from being crushed.

Not to mention this roof in Tittling close to Passau. (both links German)

The second link also includes various buildings now closed due to roof damage.

Edit: Coverage on Bayern 3 radio between songs. Last development: Badly scared but no one injured.

CNN said no injuries

the ZDF report seems to suggest the roof slowly caved in rather than collapsing quickly

One less crap German supermarket I guess. It's a start.

They are sending the dogs in to sniff out anyone who might still be there. According to the Red Cross some slightly injured, no one seriously.

Let's hope the poor dogs don't accidentally eat any of the rotting produce from the back of the shelves.

It is not clear how many people were in the building when the roof fell and there are conflicting reports of whether anyone was injured.

The cause of the collapse is unknown, although the region of Bavaria did experience heavy snowfall overnight.

Last month 15 people died when snow brought down the roof of an ice rink in the Bavarian town of Bad Reichenhall.

These cheap supermarkets are always housed in cheap, quick-to-build, ugly-as-fuck warehouse-style buildings. Let's hope that they're not all as badly built as the Netto supermarket in Töging.

According to the head of Netto their stores tend to have pointed or at least slanted roofs. The local authorities insisted on a flat roof in Töging. Only five of the 2,000-odd Netto stores in Germany have flat roofs. But from what I read in the Süddeutsche the building material was crap.
Passau, Regen, Deggendorf and Freyung-Grafenau have all declared their counties a disaster area, entitling them for Federal aid, meaning the Bundeswehr is sending out soldiers to shovel the snow off the roofs.
The roof of a school in Kopfing (Upper Austria) collapsed, but the buildings had been evacuated, no one was hurt.
