From 1500-1530 today, no S-Bahn will run between Pasing and Hauptbahnhof due to munitions defusing. If I get details on what was found and where I'll post it. Expect delays through rush hour. Shuttle buses between the two stations should be available during the train stoppage.

Y'know, every time I read something like that I think - why in the world haven't they looked for and found these duds? Trains, the S-Bahn, cars, streetcars have gone rattling past that site for the last 60 years, it's just pure dumb luck that nothing has happened.
Or do we have any bomb specialists here who can explain why these guys haven't gone off?

Aren't most of these impact bombs? That would mean that you would have to push the plunger to detonate it. Mere rattling would not do that. They are more likely to be detonated during heavy construction where they get physically moved about.

There's not much data out there on how many bombs were dropped on Munich in total, how many never went off, and how many might remain undiscovered.

Gee, thanks. We're right next to the BMW factory, an almost constant building site, that got pretty heavily hit in 1944/45.

I think the problem with old munitions is they corrode and the explosive ages which means they can become unstable making them more likely to explode even if they were originally a dud.

Are they back to running normally now?
arshoo
nope just called them and informed not for another 20 mins

Here´s a link to the police report (including picture). It was a 500lb Bomb and it was succesfully defused!
