Good news!

BA have launched a new service (BAConnect) that features direct flights between Glasgow and Munich. I just tried a test booking and it all seems to be true...

from a set of random test dates, looks like about 200E including taxes for a summer return. It's a bit odd, as the minimum cost MUC-Glasgow flight seems to be half the price of the minimum cost Glasgow-MUC.

Also, the timings look suspiciously like it stops in Bristol on the way even though the intinerary doesn't mention it...

Solo, they do stop in Bristol even though, as you mentioned, it's not included in the intinerary. The prices are pretty reasonable though if irc?
benpanter
Do they let you stay on the plane or does everyone get off and back on? Even if it is two flights, avoiding the couple of hours in transit that I seem to do every time I go home would be a good thing.

Nice to see them landing in Glasgow rather than Prestwick too...

I did a test mid-week booking for late Feb and it came to 159E. Even if it does stop in Bristol, as benpanter says it is still way less than a full blown stopover with two separate flights.

You usually have to get off walk through the lounge, maybe wait 15 minutes and get back on. it is a very nice flight, on little planes.

I did this flight a few weeks ago. You have to get off the plane and take all your hand luggage with you. Immigration is done in Bristol as the Bristol-Glasgow leg is a domestic service.

On the way from MUC to GLA the flight was running late. There were only 3 of us flying on to Glasgow so we were rushed off the plane, through immigration, through arrivals, through departures, through immigration and back out onto the tarmac to board the same seat in the same plane.

Its probably more of a pleasant trip then having to negotiate Heathrow.

Morning

For your information in case you hadn't heard BA have sold their Glasgow to Bristol to Munich flight to Flybe along with many other regional flights. Flybe has cancelled this route. So no more Glasgow to Munich via bristiol, can only fly with a connection at heathrow (which is a bit of a headache).

My parents were booked on the BA flight and were told yesterday it was cancelled.

So the only direct flights to scotland are easyjet to Edinburgh, and from north england LLufthansa from manchester (which tends to be incredibly expensive)

Seem to feel that the airlines are missing a trick here.

Bummer, BA connect was a good option if you could book miles in advance, crap though in that it didn't fly on Sundays. The Easyjet Edinburgh one is an absolute godsend.

To get to Glasgow it's a pain as it's a bus and then a train from the Edinburgh airport but wayyyy better than the cheapest alternative that I've found (driving to Frankfurt Hahn then getting Ryanair to Prestwick).

It's really just the Munich to Bristol leg that's been cancelled - lucky for me they've kept the Frankfurt Bristol and Bristol Glasgow. Bristol-Glasgow leg has always been pretty full when I fly (usually Thursday or Friday evening) since it was fed by several other routes - seems to me they've cut off part of their passenger base by cutting feeder flights

Flybe are only flying out of bristol to jersey, no where else.

see below from Bristol airport website:
BA Connect Passenger Notice
(06/03/07)
Following the recent takeover of BA Connect, Bristol International is disappointed to announce that Flybe has decided to terminate all routes previously served by the BA subsidiary by 25th March 2007.

All existing BA Connect flights are expected to operate as scheduled until 24th March 2007*. BA Connect passengers booked on services from Bristol after 24th March 2007 will be offered a number of options including a full ticket refund and should contact BA directly on 0870 850 9 850 or visit www.ba.com.

Passengers are advised that easyJet already operate daily services from Bristol International to Paris (CDG), Edinburgh, Glasgow and from April 14th 2007, Milan. For passengers travelling to Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Munich and Zurich wishing to fly from Bristol International we would advise passengers to book with KLM at www.klm.com who offer regular and convenient connecting services via Amsterdam, or with Brussels Airlines at www.brusselsairlines.com connecting via Brussels.

Bristol International is currently in discussions with a number of major airlines to replace the cancelled services as soon as possible.

Please be aware that British Airways service (operated by GB Airways) to Tenerife (www.ba.com) will continue to operate from Bristol International as will Flybe daily flights to Jersey (www.flybe.co.uk).

The Munich-Bristol leg was always full when I flew it but didn't have enough high paying buinsess passengers I guess.
