Ok, tomorrow looks like a cracking day and this is our plans for anyone that wants to join us.
We are going here:

We're going to meet there at 8:30am, or if you want to meet in Munich we are leaving from the centre at 7am. PM me for an address to meet at or for my mobile number.

What a great ski-day!
Got my first lessons in deep snow skiing and also found out how difficult it is to stand up and get your skis on in 5 foot of snow. Beautiful weather, great conditions and what seemed like a ski resort which continues as far as the eye can see in every direction. Paradise? In the afternoon I ended up getting a migraine, but foresight was rewarded and I had enough painkillers to anaesthetise myself to the other side.
Did anyone take any photos?

Quality place and a top day but a daft place to go in a big group with people of different abilities as it's just impossible to stay roughly in the same part. Next time maybe a smaller resort. I'm up for it again this Sunday though whatever the conditions.

Sounds good IW but I've got a potentially big night lined up on Friday night so I may have to get back to you on that one. No better than 50/50 at the moment. Cheers for the offer.

Yeh, Friday night is the tracht night at the Hofbrau too, so I don't know about Saturday.. we're up for Sunday though..
I have some pics, will post them soon.. they are mainly of DJ_Jazzy_Guff falling over.. he was having a lot of trouble staying on his feet, and tried to blame hidden barbed wire fences for his falls.. :)

I'll come tracht night as well.

Once again that aussie fool hutcho trying to hype up one fall in the óff-piste powder. At least I didn't have to have my thumb operated on and spend the whole day crying about my poor little knee! Hutcho = part-timer. DJ_Jazzy_Guff = barbed-wire fence victim!

I went snowboarding at Spitzingsee yesterday. Went with the Autobus

I think my next trip to the mountains will be in two weeks.

I reckon Sunday will be a killer - approx 25-30 of fresh from Fri/Sat, and clear skies. Monday as well. The only thing I'm worried about is all the kids off from school - is this current week a big week off for kids, and is next week as well (for other parts of the country)?

Mar 1 2006, 3:46 pm
I thought the kids go back to school next week?
At the moment Sunday is looknig like the best day, but its still a little way off..

Man, check out all that snow outside.. its going to be epic this weekend.. I have a friend I am meant to meet down at Garmisch tomorrow but frankly I think Saturday is going to be a white-out.
Sunday however is looking like one of the best days of the season..

With this amount of snow and gale-force winds predicted tonight, you'd be well-advised to stay on piste. Having said that, there should be powder on piste so there shouldn't be any need to take your life in your hands off.

I don't know man, forecasts predict whiteouts on Sunday as well (took a look at Söll and Fügen). Looks more like Monday could be the day hit it up, despite it probably snowing that day as well (albeit not that heavy). Glad to see that temps are dropping in time for the serious snowfalls as well.
I don't think winds will be a problem at all, they don't look crazy or anything.
I certainly hope the forecasts stay true for next week as well - some serious dumping scheduled.

Eriiki, you're right about Sunday in some areas but I was looking at Garmisch because that is where my friend is however if I go on Sunday I don't think I'd head there..
You are wrong about Monday though - check this out:

Monday; 2 cm in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, that's not too bad. At least compared to 6-14 in those same periods for Sat and Sun, and compared to the rest of the 6 day forecast.
It will probably still be messy, but nothing compared to Sat and Sun, and we need to pick one day this week to play, particularly with it looking like the snow's gonna hold on...
So, who wants to go frollick among the trees on Monday?

Whats Lenggries going to be like ???

Mar 3 2006, 11:13 am
Well... it's certainly not going to be hard to find fresh powder this weekend.
I wanted to hop on the BOB train to Spitzing or Lenggrees this Sunday, but if the weather is like this...

Wow according to that Hutcho report it is snowing all next week! I am gonna stay at work until it clears a bit I think. I don't really like boarding when it is snowing - its kinda fun for about half an hour and then I get frustrated with getting wet, not seeing where I am going, going too slow etc.

Most likely total whiteouts in the morning, so if you want to head there on Sunday, just take a late morning train to get you there around 12-1, and do a half day. It'll still be messy though...

Lenggries is showing exactly the same as Soll but with a little less snow (probably just cause its a little lower)

Beware the children; it's school holidays at the moment.
Went to Spitzingsee yesterday and was horrified to find instead of the usual week day queue of 10 or so people to use the lifts it had swelled to a few hundreds at a time. It was a long looong morning.
Of course, the fresh snow later in the afternoon totally made up for it. But just so's your aware what you might be in for.

Double true, Marshbot. Hence another reason to lay low until next workweek rolls in. Not just vacationing kids, but all the kids hanging out in the city this week will be all excited 'n shit to hit the slopes for daytrips with their parents this weekend as well after the snowfall we've seen here in Munich.
Guffmeister, forecasts are never 100% obviously. That being said, just check snow-forecast.com as late as you can before the day you're considering and decide then. Right now it looks like the heavy of the storm will hang out over Tirol from Saturday 17ish to Sunday 12ish. But the storm could slow down, speed up, go pffft, or just take a hike into another direction altogether, thereby making either Sat or Sun potentially good days. You just never fuckin' know...
I'm currently looking at Monday, but if there's a change in forecast, Sunday as well. I'll let you know.
dubdub, will do! Looked like you didn't have too shabby of a week over in Avoriaz after all.

Posted this in another thread but it deserves to be in here too.. today was a very good day to be in the mountains

We went skiing today - was excellent. A bit dangerous on the roads this morning, so we just went to Oberamergau which is pretty close. Over 50cm of fresh snow.
Most of the time between boot and thigh deep, but occasionally was over the waist and in the face. Overcast and snowing most of the day, however the light was good and there was no visibility problems and no wind either.
Few pics of the day below.
Face shot

Little bit off piste, this was nice and light and deep.. hit this one a few times..

Was at Hopfgarten for a few days, was great. They have a 6 and an 8 person lift among others, no waiting! Plus you don't have to buy an Austrian sticker for your car if you get off at/before Kufstein Süd. If you go Hofgarten you must try the Hohe Salve...

Was at Wildkögel for the weekend (that's in the Kitbühler Alps), it was total whiteout both days. It brightened up for about 45 mintues on Saturday afternoon but that was it. Snow was wonderful, but you just couldn't see anything and few trees on the side to guide you (we were at 2000m.
