As anyone who is unfortunate enough to have to use the U6 north of Alte Heide probably already knows, the MVV have decided to shut the track between Alte Heide and Garching Hochbruck. A bus will replace it. Yes, a bus!!! In rush hour that means that there will essentially be no service atall, as the roads are solid along that route.
The dates the
MVV have published are "7th April until 16th April 2004".
The reason I post is just as a warning. The last "alteration" to the U6 service was a shuttle train between Frottmanning and Garching. This was originally put into effect in for a
2 week period in November
2002, and is still going strong today.

Interesting ... Studentenstadt is a major U-Bahn to Bus transfer point. That's going to affect a lot of people like myself who usually transfer there. Do you know the reason for the closure?

Looked it up, appears to have something to do with the stadium construction. (not sure why it wasn't letting me edit my post and add this.)

There's been loads of closures along the U3 and U6 over the last year or so, even as far down as
Implerstrasse. It's all to do with that bloody stadium that we "aren't subsidising" , apart from the massive rennocvations on the U-Bahn of course.
Wait till they start working on
Marienplatz station later in the year to put in a brand new pair of escalators and bring the station up to the newest safety standards, now that is gonna be fun!

Not.

Hey look at is this way, by glad they are doing the work otherwise it could end up like the underground in london.
You have to accept the pain in the short term to keep the long term benefits

Yeah, you're right there Pootle.
The S-bahn blockage was a bollocks but it is worth it to have more trains going through.

@Don R. Are there still no through trains out to Garching?
I'm sure I saw one last week at Sendlinger Tor

Luckily I'm away for most of that period. I just hope that it's not extended, as it enough of a nightmare getting back to Garching at the moment, let alone with buses on the already busy roads going north out of Munich.

@Big C
I am going to be getting a cab from the city back to Garching most days during that period at about 5/5.30 ish - you're welcome to jump in the cab with me. Might be worth bearing in mind.

@Don Riina - cheers, I'm away from 9th - 18th, so hopefully it won't affect me too much. But if they extend it like that bloody Pendelzug you were saying above, then I may well take you up on that offer! Cheers.
