I was killing some time last night in Schwabing and wandered into the Patagonia store (Leopoldstrasse 47). They've got their winter sale on at the moment, and there are many bits of top notch outdoors clothing with about 30% off. Patagonia being Patagonia, this brings it down to what you would pay for the equivalent in the TNF, bergaus etc. ranges. Still some very nice kit though - goretex, fleece, down jackets - and the sale runs until the 10th Feb.

Shop website: patagonia.com / Munich.
Ubahn: U3/6 Muenchener Freiheit.

Of particular note were the Macpac rucsacks on the top floor. Patagonia used to be in partnership with Macpac, but have now moved on to making their own kit and are selling off the old stock. Benefit to us - 200E rucsacs at 95E. The bags are bomber, waterproof and very comfortable. Last night they had a selection of travel rucsacs and hiking ones. I'm just sad that they didn't have my back size in stock...

I was in there two days ago and picked up a bit of new kit. As you say, the prices are now down to levels we would pay in NA, but there are some very good deals on capilene underwear and such.

I went into Patagonia at the start of January when I was looking for ski-wear. One assumes the quality is first rate, judging by the higher-than-anywhere-else prices, but I thought the design was a big unimaginative. Still, I'll buy anything which has been reduced by more than 30% ...

It's the best, that's why it is so expensive. I still use my ski clothes that are 20 years old, amazing. Nothing else (including North Face and Marmot) even come close.
