Hi Everyone! I thought I would bake a German friend of mine a Gingerbread cake for his birthday, as he likes this kind of spicy loaf. All the recipes however call for Molasses ( oder Melasse auf Deutsch), which is pretty much non-existent in the German cuisine. Does anyone know if I can buy any anywhere in Munich? I'd appreciate a head's up from those more versed in tracking rare and precious North American cooking ingredients!
Cheers,
Gryphon

Most regular grocery stores carry Grafschafter Goldsaft. Look amongst the jams and jellies. It's pretty close.

Sometimes you can find treacle in
Karstadt central station food hall as well as golden syrup, but
Pomeroy & Winterbottom certainly stock it.

I got molasses / black treacle from a local bio supermarket. It's called Mellase. Golden syrup I got from my local Edeka hiding on a shelf above the ice cream. Making sticky toffee pudding?
