In our house we have those rather lovely wooden stairs with each step made up of just a wooden tread and a big gap between each one.

We also have a rather beautiful 8 month old daughter who is becoming very mobile, very quickly and both my wife and I live in fear of her making her way over to the stairs and crawling between the gap and... well it doesnt bare thinking about.

So far I have not been able to find anything that can be fixed to each step (no drilling or gluing allowed) to effectively close the hole.

Has anyone else found anything to do the job ?

Many thanks

Get a gate for the stairs so that she can't get on them. They are on sale in lots of places, but here's a selection. Stair Gate - Treppen gitter
It's a good idea to teach your toddler how to crawl down the stairs backwards as well. I have the same type of stairs and that's what I did with my youngest daughter.

The wife wasnt too keen on the leash idea but i might be able to talk her around :-)

And there is a gap between the floor and the first step where the banister starts...I would need a gate approximtely 3 meters wide to fence off the whole thing !

I guess I can just suff a lump of wood under there but was hoping to find something with a little more panache and less splinters.

When I was a wee bairn, we had steep stairs but I was fine with them. I would bump down them on me bum, everything was cool. Then my grandfather took one look at them and sterlny INSISTED that my parents install a baby gate at the top of them so that I do not fall down. They are faaaar too dangerous you see.

So InquisitiveLateralThinkingTommy™ works on this problem, builds up a pile of stuff - a chair with books on I think - to get around said obstacle.

The result was a hospital visit and lots of accusitions that my parents abused me.

I say no to stair safety gates smile.gif
