possibly the worst experience so far in munich has been my visit to the finanzamt, even telling how rude the people were there to me gets me angry again, so lets save that story for tomorrows show. Anyhoo, has anyone any idea how to complete the form for working on a free lance basis, its harder to read than the koran backwards? anyone have to fill it out before? or have some idea what to do with it? help much appreciated

Got a Tax advisor?

No... Get one..
Yes... Change them..

Tax in Munich is just as complicated as in the UK. France, USA, Geece, Spain, Italy,Former Yugoslavia, Shall I continue.?

You really shouldnt be fighting the authorities alone.. Pay a TAX advisor, its worth it in the long run.

I agree with Grinner. I used Thomas Zitzelburger who is an advertiser on this forum. It isn't cheap, but then I really dont' know how I would have got setup without him, and it saves you money in the long run cause they know ways to minimise how much tax you have to pay. Even if you speak good German, its still a tough thing to do.

My experience with the Finanzentrum to get my freelance tax number was a great experience. I did not speak any German and she did not speak much English. She went through the trouble of getting a German-English dictionary to communicate with me.

All smiles for me there, even at the information/reception desk where you take a queue number. smile.gif

My experience was pretty straight-forward, I have to say. A quick letter to the Finanzamt asking for this form, which they then posted to me. It was about 6 pages long. You'll probably need the help of a native German speaker. I also use Thomas Zitzelburger, who is relatively cheap, and only needed brief assistance on working out which expenses I can use to offset my tax liability (answer: none, so call it x hundred euros a month).

Then posted the form back - never had to set foot in their smouldering cesspit smile.gif

There's some good info here, also check out the external links in my post, no. 15:
