Population statistics on foreigners living here

Can anyone help me track down official government statistics on the number of native English speakers living in Germany?

There are some 40,000 US citizens living in Bavaria and for all of Germany it is roughly 450,000. Actual numbers are secret as that includes military personnel. Ring up the embassies one by one or send a request for information to each.

According to the Statistisches Bundesamt, there's only 97,000 Americans "officially" living in Germany.

Does that mean that there's more than 350,000 military personnel still stationed in Germany? I find that a little hard to believe, considering the overall size of the US army. unsure.gif

34,000 soldiers stationed in Kaiserslautern. This is not including other "bases" and family. There is definitely more than what is listed on that official list.

Friend is setting up expat services for delivering British stuff - I imagine Tetleys and Marmite etc. - and he is after me for info on how many Brits live in Germany, specifically FFM. Munich he also ants info on Geneva, Zurich and anywhere else that there is huge amounts of Brits (apart from Spain - he reckons that's taken care of).

Any one any ideas where he might glean such information?

Thanks

good luck to him. the more competition the better.

there are enough people here, the products and timely delivery just need to be right, imo.

as for the info, i believe the KVR publish numbers each year. TT had a link to them a while nack, thanks to Ed Bob, dunno where it is. Have you tried using the search function?

I went for a job with NATO in Germany once, and for all the personel there, despite the fact they actually live in Germany, they're not classed as such. Therefore despite there being loads of em (all living tax free both here and the UK), there's no record of the numbers as they "technically" don't exist.

Nice work if you can get it.

any ideas on Expat brits in Zurich/Geneva ???

Vienna is interesting what do Brits do there
Kay
1. Since the UN has a large office in Vienna I presume a lot of expats work there.

2. Know next to nothing about British expats in Zurich, I'm afraid.

3. As for Geneva's expat community (British and otherwise), it's a large one - UN, specialised agencies, NGOs, multinationals, etc. - but a large proportion of expats live across the border in France (cheaper accommodation, lower taxes).
