What to do when a cat is lost

Dealing with pet cats that have gone missing

Natalia
I have a really shitty situation. My neighbour went for two months to Thailand and left her cat to our other neighbour. This neighbour then went for this weekend to Rome and left the cat last Tuesday to us.

The cat is still very young, maybe 6 months or so, but it knows his home and his name. He knows us, my kids are playing with him. Now on the third day him being in our place he got lost. Usually he is going out for a few times a day to inner yard but coming back in 15-20 minutes. Last night he didn't come home.

I looked everywhere in the yard, asked neighbours and the cleaning lady, all without results, and I really don't know what else could I do. There is a big gate in the inner yard going to the street, but usually the cat never went there. Yesterday I thought that maybe some neighbour just took it home for the night, it had happened before, but today the cat didn't come home either.

Is there some place in Munich where people are bringing lost cats and dogs? Anybody has an idea what I should do?

Hope you find the kitty...try the tierheim?

You have to put signs up all around your area (with photo if possible). Someone probably took the cat in. Good luck.
Natalia
Ok, thanks jml and PES, already feeling better. I went to the website of the Tierheim and they have a possibility to give Vermisstenanzeige which is great, except I don't know how to describe the cat in German.

I have already a row in progress with my German bf, he was against the whole thing, and right now is not helping me sad.gif Kids are upset, and I feel veeeery guilty for letting this happened eventhough it is not directly my fault. So to come back to the Missing ad, could you please help me figure out how one can describe the colour

Our cat is looking like this one, but has longer hair, is a bit smaller and more cute in my opinion.
jml
oh sorry natalia...my german isn't anywhere decent enough but there's loads of fluent animal lovers that can help you smile.gif
Kay
Sorry to hear about the kitty. I hope it was taken in by somebody and will turn up again. I'm afraid I can't help you with the sign, my German is practically non-existent. sad.gif

Hope everything turns out all right.

Natalia, you could also try visiting any local veterinary offices in your neighborhood. Sometimes neighbors will bring them in there. And from what I've been told, almost all vets speak at least some English, so maybe they could help you with the translation for a Lost Cat sign?

Also, do you know if the kitty was microchipped?

Best of luck!!! I will keep my fingers crossed for you!
Natalia
Microchipped? What is that? I think it is not, otherwise the owner would have told me.
I know that is has been castrated, but thsi dioesn't help.
PES
6 months old never had a chance to become a real man? Maybe he went of to heal from his demasculation?
inka
Some info on Microchipping

Good luck!
Natalia
@ PES, I hope I will be able to joke about it soon. biggrin.gif

@inka
God! After the day like today, only if I find him and if does not indeed cost more than 50$, I would think about getting it myself. Thank you for the info.
PES
Please put the signs up tonight! He probably didn't travel far, and most folk may think he was abandoned.
sarabyrd
Give me a description, honey, and I'll translate for you. I hope you find the kitten soon, and alive.
Natalia
Thank you!

The description

Ours has longer hair
Natalia
I mean I don't know even in English cats' colours, except black and white.
PES
or like one of these guys...

PES
Or like this guy???

Vielen Dank!

Is his nose pink or brown? Strike the wrong one. Does he wear a collar? Is his tail really bushy? Does he have different colored eyes? Is he the trusty kind or shy?
edit: I said the kiddies are missing their little playmate. Jerk the heartstrings ...
Natalia
Well the length of hair is like the one you've posted

But the colour is like in the photo I gave
sarabyrd
light gray/dark gray stripes, gotcha
Natalia
Dear Sarabyrd, thank you so much!!!

He didn't have a collar on him, and I don't know what to say about his character, whether he is more trusty or more shy. Basically, like all cats, he is doing what he wants. To us he is trusty, becuase we've been seeing him since my neighbour got him. Not sure how he is towards other people, but maybe more trusty.

Thank you a lot one more time.
Natalia
An update.

Just when we were putting our twentieth or so ad, we noticed another ad saying that the similar looking cat has been found in the neighbour house. Then it was just a matter of time when somebody finally was home. biggrin.gif He got a runny nose probably becuase of running too long on the street, but otherwise is o.k. peacefully sleeping here next to me.

I would like to thank everybody for support and especially Sarabyrd again for the text. biggrin.gif
Kay
A happy ending! That's great news. biggrin.gif
Now relax and enjoy your weekend!
iscream
Natalia, happy that it all ended well. I can only imagine the relief you are feeling right now.
Natalia
There were three own cats in the family who hosted him. My son said that at least it is good that Shiva found new friends. The cats were awfully fat, probably Shiva already thought that now these people will feed him like this.

Oh God what an entertainment.rolleyes.gif I should post now on the thread about being grateful for simple things. I'm grateful that (nearly) our cat is back home alive.
knusper_muesli
Great that you found the cat - but for next time definitely encourage the owner to register the cat with TASSO. It's a European pet registry. They send you something to put on its collar (I know that cats don't like collars, but this is absolutely necessary if the animals are ever outside) with an 800-number to call if you find the animal. It says "Ich werde vermisst!". If someone calls the 800-number and says that they have found the pet, TASSO then calls the owner. Absolutely necessary to have, and has saved me a lot of worry in the past.
sarabyrd
Now you can post a picture and see if the description fits. I am so glad you got the kitty back!
UrbanAngel
Oh, phew! I'm really glad this had a happy ending too. Our cat's been Tassoed too, I can really recommend it. Much better than tattooing the ear.
Natalia
Yeah, I will, when I have one. We have only ordinary camera. smile.gif

Glad to hear that the cats back, now here is something to stop those little kitties from running off!

Did wait till the cat was found before this posting!

Is there one bigger device for a man?
SaltandPepper
What, does the man get lost too?
kitkat64
Perfect comeback Natalia!

You should tell the owner to at least buy her a collar and get a tag with the owner's phone number and address. You can get them at pet stores. Our kitten has one attached to her Harley Davidson collar (yep, she's cool). Just in case she gets lost.

gosh, this really made my day. and i needed a picker-upper for monday. seriously, something to be greatful for. smile.gif
Natalia
thanks wub.gif
boomtown_rat
make sure you take down the signs before the owner comes back and sees them!

glad it ended happily - I know its a horrible feeling when a pet disappears
PES
I still want to see a photo of the cat!
Natalia
Oh yes, we did already. The last one what I took away was in our stairs laugh.gif

The other neighbour, the one who went to Rome, was supposed to return yesterday (I'm having déja vù feeling), still didn't show up by the way, so the kitty is still in our place. Maybe I should have a look where the ersatz-mom number one is. wink.gif

I still want to see a photo of the cat!

I will post it but it'll take some time till the film is full and I develop it and so on. smile.gif
grazzenger
glad you found him. i remember the first time one of our two naffed off for a night out on the piss at about the same age. my wife was frantic and had me wandering the railway line next to our house at 2am. silly sod turned up the next morning looking for breakfast. glad it was a happy ending!
kitkat64
Yep, it's when they stay out all night and come back looking...er...satisfied, that's when you can start the count down to kittens.
grazzenger
haha kitkat64, not ours. snippety-snip before they were ever let out anywhere! funny though, we've recently moved and whilst our tom is still a bit chicken about going out to establish new territory, our young lady is out all the time 'getting it'!!
kitkat64
Good for her!!
Poopy got the 'snip' 2 weeks ago and now she goes out all the time. She's a tree climber!

My neighbour went for two months to Thailand

bit of a poor effort to get a cat and then disappear soon afterwards for two months but I guess there are reasons
Natalia
Well actually last summer she asked me, whether I would be able to help her in cases like this, and I said I would. I can't say that she took a cat just becuase I promised to help her, it was entirely her decision, but anyway imagine what all I was thinking last Friday, how great help I am. ohmy.gif
Andy101
Is it possible for one to put Missing cat notice at shops that sells cat or dog food? Since this is the first place i would go if i wanna adopt a cat on the street. If this should'nt be a problem then i think this will be the best solution.

Good luck for finding...
UrbanAngel
The cat's been found at a neighbour's.
