Just a quick update from my office building (located behind the Bayerischer Hof) on the extremely competent and busy security presence in the area:

There's a sniper on the roof of the hotel. He's been sitting there all day, dressed entirely in black. From a distance he also appears quite attractive, and all my female colleagues have been scurrying up to the top floor of our building to take a look. He's hard at work - we all hung out the window and waved at him, and he waved back with a big smile on his face and then scoped us all out with his binoculars.

So as you can see, it's a very tense situation over here in central Munich.

Yup, was the same situation several years ago when I worked for a bank next the Bayrische Hof (bank and hotel shares the same underground parking lot).
They body checked us every time when we left or entered the office. Well, da girls where not too offended, damn good looking guys, at least most of them. It´s a special force called "Staatsschutz", maybe the nice guy on the roof is GSG 9.

I considered hanging a sign out of the window : "Hit Me With Your Best Shot".

But then I thought, maybe he's not a Pat Benatar fan.

I wasn't searched this morning on the way in though I'm hoping to get lucky when I leave in a few minutes.

This is why I like living in Austria. No damn NATO whatsoever, and only the far-right dickwads want Austria in it.

Sure, but the Austrians join in many of the NATO exercises, just like the French so they can be part of NATOs plans but they do not have to contribute anything towards using the NATO facilities.

Best of both worlds I guess

Quick reminder if your trying to go near the center of town today, trams and buses going through are severly affected by the security conference.

e.g. if you thought of taking the #27 tram from karlsplatz/stachus to the arc for the rugby, forget it

Make alternative plans.

Me I'm travling on the bus #54 and #154 from ostbahnhof smile.gif

Seems pretty quiet at Marienplatz right now:
