Is this true? Answer: we don't think so

Hello,

I could not find any info about this specific topic so asking now.

For freelancers (english teachers etc) I have heard that you can go to the Finanzamt and get a special form so you are exempt from paying tax for 2 years. If you stay longer then you have to pay back tax.

Has anyone heard of this?? if so could you please advise.
I know a Steuerberator could advise me but thought I could get some helpful (and free smile.gif ) info here first.

I would like to have as much info before going to Finanzamt as I don't speak German (especially for official things such as this) and would like as much info (or ammunition) as possible before going.

So anyway any info on being taxc exempt will be much appreciated,

Thanks

Do a seach on this site. I'm sure it's been discussed before.

I think it is true but only for English teachers (i.e. not for IT consultants etc.). I remember doing some Googling on the topic quite some time ago. The answer's out there.

Here's a few links that provide info you may want to check up on. Information on starting a business can be found here and here, but information specific to freelancing and tax etc. can be found here and here. Check the sources in the articles to confirm that the information is current. Hope this helps.
