Whilst glancing at Spiegel online, I came across The Prejudice Map. Stereotypes à la Google, by searching for example, "germans are known for *". The power of the internet unleashed.

I like the USA:

dislike of walking
anti-Muslim politics

Those mongolians have a wicked sense of humour... smile.gif
boomtown_rat
extremely unclean laugh.gif

never understand where the reputation of fair play for Brits comes from. Sense of humour I could understand but fair play? are we/do we?
Topsy
are Indians really known for cheating?
I'd never got that impression, at all
alala
Here are some handy charts. They only cover Europe, though.
HollyGolightly
big eyes is another good one

Why does India have cheating as their first on their list??
Marshbot
I feel like there is somewhere missing off that map but I can't quite put my finger on it. dry.gif
Topsy
you guys are missing, and so are the Irish, I noticed
Showem
Marshbot, just for you: Kiwis are known for...
Marshbot
Thanks Showem! So going by the first two...

"New Zealanders are known for their ingenuity and inventiveness, an ability to
fabricate almost anything from limited resources..."
"New Zealanders are known for their do-it-yourself attitude"

...we tell tall stories and masturbate a lot.
I reckon that's pretty true for lots of kiwis I've met. Lying wankers.
Yeti
At least it's do-it-yourself.
benpanter
Expats are known for "shifting, sticking and spoiling". Interesting stuff.
Topsy
Hmph
Yorkshire folk are known for calling a spade a spade and for being tight with their money.
Balderdash.
perdido
Wow us Mexicans" bend the rules and are foul mouthed.".hmmm never would have imagined that.
Moonboot
British people are stereotypically 'extremely unclean'??? I thought that was the French...where's Wibble?
Caesar
... Brits being known for un-cleanliness I have never heard of ... I always thought it was bad teeth. Not that I think this

Canada is supposed to be very multi-cultural but I find that most people tend to adapt to the Canadian culture rather than hold onto their own. This makes it really hard to identify people from other cultures based on anything other than accent or skin colour. Since moving here I've to some extent been able to determine some personality traits that may (or may not) be representative of the culture people come from.

For example, I was reading the Kiwi thread and noticed that Kza, Marshbot, Timmeh and Brokenm are not only some of the funniest posters on the forum but also all from New Zealand. Coincidence?

I've also noticed that the South Africans I've met (3 in total - huge sample size) all really enjoy deep, intense discussions. Another coincidence?

I'm talking out of my ass as per usual.

Brokenm is only a wannabe Kiwi - I believe he's actually from Florida or some such.
But I agree that they are 4 of the wittier forum posters.
Dr Matt - the Arc's illustrious quiz master - is also a witty and erudite Kiwi.

I've never actually been to NZ, though - maybe all the smart, funny ones leave cos the rest are all thick as pig shit.
Eleanor Rigby
Ah yes, you're right. My mistake.

I no longer find him funny ph34r.gif

But behind the sunny kiwi facades, it's all bottles of gin, daytime tv, and crying whilst having sex.

Heaven is where the police are British,
the cooks French,
the mechanics German,
the lovers Italian
and it is all organised by the Swiss.

Hell is where
the chefs are British,
the mechanics French,
the lovers Swiss,
the police German,
and it is all organised by the Italians.
