So, I'm living in an apartment that is the top floor of a three-story house + one bedroom on the 2nd floor. The landlords downstairs are in charge of the heat, and they do a pretty good job of it. The only thing is our bedroom on the 2nd floor doesn't seem to have any heating vents in it, and it gets really cold at night. We want to buy a space heater for this room, but I haven't a clue what works best. Can anyone recommend a heater type? Should I get a fan-forced? Oil-filled radiator? Eh?

We've been happy with
Vornado brand. They make great fans, heaters, etc. We bought our heater years ago but here's an example of the
updated model.

Thanks, jml. I'll check them out. By the way, your links actually go to a thread on places to ski in Germany. Huh?

My brother got a nice ceramic space heater for his daughters bedroom when she was a baby, I believe he got it at Walmart. It was one of those plug in kinds, I think they put it up on a shelf, if I remember right they got the ceramic as its less risk of fire or something.
But Try Walmart or Home Depot.

Yeah, well, we've got that method covered.

I'll check Home Depot, but I haven't a clue where the nearest Walmart is. I have no car at the moment, so I was hoping to order something online.

i remember having an oil-filled radiator in my draughty loft room when i was many years younger and it did the trick. it doesn't throw off a lot of heat 'directly' but fills a space with general warmth once it gets going. my parents still have it in a loft room in their current rickety house (in cold and windy scotland) and despite its age it still does the trick and i believe it's very economical.

IIRC from my previous life... a Pelonis heater with ceramic element puts out a lot of heat, +5000 BTU´s (British Thermal Units). I also remember that they use a lotta power though. No escaping the laws of thermo...

Back home we always used a micro furnace...no idea what the difference is between all the different heaters though.
It was kinda like this one:

Having used both, I'd opt for the oil filled radiator. A little bit bigger and somewhat slower to heat up the area, but much more gentle / consistent heat and, important for me while sleeping, quieter.
The fan driven models, with or without the ceramic, are simply a modified hair drier. The air movement may give you a wider spread of the heat as the radiators work mostly by radiant heat i.e. very localized.
Effectively they all use resistance heat from electricity, so cost of use I guess should be about the same.

Smart ass! As any good experimentalist knows, the actual results never match the theory exactly. I need some advice from experience, thank you.

@YL6 - Nope, this is the "Miscellaneous and Random Chat" section.

In Canada we had a micro furnace as well, they can throw quite a bit of heat and didn't seem to be very expensive to run.
