the whole whaling issue is a totally different matter
sure its a different matter entirely but this could easily hlp raise awareness - nothing wrong with that
It could also be used by nations relying on the whaling industry for jobs etc to raise awareness too, although I understand the bottlenose is one of the species that is considered endangered.

Well, possibly, apparently Wally's remains belong to the Queen...probably just looking to get revenge on her great grandfather's (or uncle? Or great grandfather?) behalf.

Do you mind. I think opportunistic oik is a bit harsh. I prefer the term "budding entrepreneur", and if you don't want one of my those tasteful magnets then it is your loss.

Al Qaeda suspect whaleQUOTE
Apparently the whale was noticed behaving suspiciously around London Bridge, it was followed by police officers and after fiddling with its dorsal fin and not obeying orders to stop flapping was shot seven times, including twice in the blowhole at close range.
But now I hear that the whale was not an Al Qaeda member, it just happened to live in the same pod as one...

Rockall Times - 70 Russians die of exposure — whale population sparedQUOTE
The reassuring news has come as a great relief to a nation still recovering from the shock death of the bottle-nosed whale which captured the hearts of millions. Tearful temp secretaries have already begun to queue at the Wally book of condolence, some bearing small teddies and bunches of flowers which they hope later to throw on Wally's coffin as the funeral cortège passes through Central London en route to the beloved animal's final resting place.
One tearful insurance company receptionist — who had quit her job to travel to London where she is now keeping at candlelit vigil beside Tower Bridge — told The Rockall Times: "Well, she touched the hearts of millions, didn't she? He was the people's whale; the Princess of Whales."

Man the media are shameless when things like this happen. Schools are just as bad though, I can just imagine all the whale related exercises, and school projects that would be going on at the moment because of this. Kids being forced to send in cards to the whales family and shit, and do paintings etc.

And a commemerative fountain will be constructed on the banks of the Thames in the form of a blow hole...

Wouldn't a whale that normally lives in seawater die fairly quickly in a freshwater river anyway ?
boomtown_rat

that certainly doesn't help. Apparently they ingest fluids by eating (and not actually by supping the moist stuff they are surrounded by - makes sense in salt water I guess). Should have bunged it a few squid

So in one night I read about a conservation ship chasing a Japanese whaling vessel for 4000 miles along the Antarctic coastline trying to stop it from killing whales so that the Japanese can have their whale sushi and whale fat with whale ice-cream and how there are never enough funds to keep these conservation ships going and in another how they spent £100, 000 trying to save one whale that swam up a sewer of a river.
I don't know, seems a bit f/ç%&*cked up to me where people's priorities lie because one whale was watched by people with camera's and was on the news. Now everyone seems to give a shit?
Also, I'm sure that they would never say that the whale died from the polluted gunk that they call water flowing in the Thames.
