Ok so the deal.
I have some good music on MiniDisc and I ahve a portable mini-disc player. I haven't got this music on another format but seeing as I bought an iriver I'd like to get it onto mp3. Trouble is the only way I can do it gives crap quality as its from the analogue output jack of the MD to the microphone socket on the computer - and then you ahve to go and manually break up the album in the software - pain in ass.
anyone know a good way i can do this without spending cash or putting too much effort in ?
What make is the Minidisc?

Is it a NetMD model? ie Can you link it via USB to your PC?
Best way timmeh suggested if you have an NetMD, otherwise a lot of sound cards have a digital in port, usually optical, and if your md player has an optical output thats the second best way. Otherwise analogue will have to do, but a line in would be better than a microphone port I think.

Does it have an Optical out on it??
If you can get hold of a sony net md and the sonic stage software you can do the transfer directly via usb.
I think I may have one at home but it is probably missing the cable

meckleWhat is the model of your Mini Disc player/recorder?
One useful site can be found
here and another link explaining about converting from MD to MP3 can be found
here.
Hopefully this helps.

yeah it has an optical out
but as far as i can see these are pointless as nothing comes with an optical in (including the expensive combi MD CD rack thing we have)

If you're nice to me you can borrow one of my NetMD walkmans and just download Sonic Stage and away you go.

ARRGGGHH!!
So the deal is my brothers NetMd is a Sharp IM-DR410E
It comes with some software called BeatJam
This dog of a thing won't me copy stuff into my libraray cos I don't ahve privleges or something. Its basically some kind of copyrighting.
How do I get past this? Any hacks or other software I can use.
Damn sony to hell !! The stuff I have on MD is irreplacable pretty much.

ok so according to my goggling you can't transfer from MD to PC unless the files originated on that PC to begin with ?
Anyone know if there's a way around this?
No wonder MD died a death. talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
slow clap for sony

ok well going for the analogue option.
pain in the ass as I have to listen for the ends of song, type shit in etc and I have about 30 MD's to do.
If anyone knows a way around the netMd privelege problem please let me know !
