Where to buy Pre-natal Vitamins? Please give some suggestions. Thanks
HollyGolightly
at the apotheke...they can help you choose the right type as well smile.gif

There is a make (you can buy them only at the Apotheke or online) called Orthomol, they have very good liquid vitamens. The highest quality. The have a prenatal dose and one specifically for women.

Actually, the Orthomol Fem version has more folic acid in it, almost double than the prenatal version. I would recommend that one. Especially if you look at all of the ingredients individually. It includes omega 3 capsuls which incidentally can help protect against post-pardum depression.

if you want more details, feel free to send me a private message.

here is the link:

a tip: don't just look at the label, just because it says "Natal" doesn't mean the individual ingredients are the best. A really good prenatal formula would have more than 400 micro units of Folic acid.

If all you want is Folic acid, you can pick up a tube of 30 Brausetabletten for 79 cents at Schlecker. 600µg (micrograms) of folic acid, 4.8mg B2, 6mg B6 and 3µg B12 per tablet.

You can also get Folic Acid supplements in capsul form at Schlecker, fairly inexpensive and then you don't have to drink some nasty tasting glass of water with those tablets dissolved in them. wink.gif But if you are looking for prenatal then I think you need more than just folic acid.

I got these prenatal vitamins called Femibion. You can't start taking them until the 25th week I think. They were kinda pricey, but supposed to be good. Your doctor is the best person to ask for that stuff. Midwives here are also an excellent source of information.

I've also been taking Femibion, but the kind without DHA, which you can take from before conception. My gyn told me that the one with DHA smells of fish, which is certainly not good if you have morning sickness!
Femibion is very expensive, especially when you compare it with the antenatal vitamins you can find in the UK. However, if the doctor prescribes it to you, you can get it refunded by your insurance.
