Just before Christmas, on 21.Dec.2005, a giant new furniture store opened in central Munich.
In fact,
XXXLutz at Theresienhöhe now claims to be the largest furniture shop in town. I dunno whether this is actually true or just marketing hype. But either way if you're in the market for some new kit for your house or apartment then this might be worth checking out.
There's currently a price war going on between furniture stores in Munich so there are likely to be some good bargains to be had.
XXXLutz are occupying the building which was formerly
Karstadt / Theresienhöhe - adjacent to the Theresienwiese there.

Today is meant to be the official opening day as mentioned on their adverts but they have been open for the last 2 days already. There is plenty of entertainment going on and an Audi A6 to be won. Mind you, its been pretty pack during the day but didn't look too bad later n in the night.

Keydeck - WTF is that?
I'd be more interested in hearing if there are any bargains to be had? Anyone know?

What the fuck is what? Those are photographs from the store today. Clearly there was some Brazilian-esque dancers by way of entertainment. Thought that would be fairly apparent. Sorry but I didn't have time to take an inventory and complete price listing during my lunchbreak. Yes there are a lot of items which are on sale cheaper than they would normally be. There was no indication as to how long the reduced prices will last.

There's quite a lot of price information on
their website. No doubt there'll be some super-special offers in the new Munich store, but it gives a good idea of their prices.
I must say, I quite like their logo.

Yes, Keydeck, I can see they are Brazilien dancers - but WHY? Why would anyone want to see that while shopping for furniture?! Just seeing the pictures makes my skin crawl!

I enjoyed it.
It was the opening of their store and the dancers were providing entertainment. I don't think a troupe of
Lederhosen clad arse-slappers would have the same up-beat effect. On Saturday they're gonna have "Sonya Kraus in das Haus". Quality! I'm a big fan!

With a name like XXXLutz, shouldn't them dancers be topless?

First time I heard of this place I thought it was new XXX store, not furnature...

I couldn't find any info on the site about this, but I was on my way to Metro yesterday, in the
Euro-Industriepark, and I happened to see this sign XXXLutz Abhollager. That means their site for pick-up furniture is about 10km away from the store itself?!? BTW, it's very amusing following the various ads the other furniture stores are taking out in the Süddeutsche etc., such as you get steak at XXXLutz in a Semmel for soandso many Euros, for the same price we give it to you on a plate.

I tried to check the place out yesterday...big mistake. The wait to get inside the store was at least 20mins!! They were limiting people going into the store because it was so busy. Shite. I had a yummy Ochsen-semmel before leaving though..

It's only furniture!
I've been to an XXXLutz in Austria and it's nothing special... but if it gets Segmüller to drop their prices that would be cool because I like their stuff. And maybe
Ikea can get the Swedish Bikini Team to show up!

Try Biller Mobel on the way to Landshut. Great prices, massive store (and I mean massive) self drive vans and when they are quoting for things like kitchens, they give you a meal voucher for their restuarant!!
Tried other places but always go back to Biller Mobel!!

Just went here today. XXXLutz is Laminate Furniture Heaven. It is as if Ikea threw up in there. The furniture is mostly a modern crappy style or made of glass. Forgive me if I step on toes but I am tired of that style being the only thing for sale German stores and all the customers are going ape-shit over it.
Plus they had the heat cranked up so much we were getting sick to our stomachs and couldn't finish shopping.
End review: It is
Ikea, but it is in town so you don't have to rent a car to get there.
The prices were just a bit below Kokon who sells much better stuff so just go to Kokon.

Some days ago, we went to XXXLutz to look for a new living-room lamp. Found a nice one which was supposed to cost 160 Euros. We weren't sure, so we didn't buy it on the spot. Today, we went to see my parents in Straubing and browsed around a large furniture store there. Turns out they had exactly the same lamp, and the price tag said "regular price recommended by supplier: 150 Euros; reduced to 99.99 Euros". We asked the sales clerk why it was reduced, and he said "The supplier is new on the market and needs to make huge concessions to the retailers to get listed. So we can afford to sell it at a big discount".
Morale: Stores like XXXLutz may claim to be super-cheap. But apparently, they are not. So if you're planning to spend a sizable amount of money on furniture, do some comparison shopping first. In our case, it meant spending 40 % less for the same item...

I went there on saturday and like profundo said its nothing new. I was pretty excited to go thinking I'd see some new stuff, but was pretty disapointed when I realized they have the same shit I saw in every other furniture store here. but maybe I only feel that way cuz I was just int he states for 3 weeks where 'variety' is actually easy to come by.

I really wanted to go for the sales, but god I hate to walk.
No, actually I went, and agree with the last 3 posters. There was some nice, albeit very expensive furniture on the EG. Virtually all of UG was just
Ikea redux, and I was too tired to hit the 3rd floor. Nice lighting is damned expensive too.
