Wanna play?

Just got a mail confirming the start of the Aussie Rules footy season in Munich. If you're interested, come down for a kick. I won't be there (I'm overseas), but go along, make yourself known and have a kick. Hirschgarten 3pm - About 100 metres south of the Beergarden (where we inevitably end up afterwards). Open to all nationalities - even if you've never played before - last year there were Germans, a French guy and a couple of Kiwis. It's very social and a lot of fun:

O.K. Gentlemen... or finely tuned
athletes...or actually whoever's listening!!!

It's that time of year again, when it's time to break the shackles off
that winterschlaf and get a bit of self pride back in getting rid of
that extra wobble around the gut region that wasnt there at the end of
last summer. No not nockerberg
emptyheads...it's ROO time!!
Time to get a bit of fitness under the belt to take on the improved
competition of last year after their serious off-season recruiting drive
to try and knock the mighty Munich Kangaroos off their perch which is,
at the moment, at the top of the table. We finished as victors of most
things last year including kidnappings of civilians and frogs alike!!
Francis will once again be at the helm of our campain to go back to
back. Unlike his traitorous, once lovingly adored, now turned hamburg
defector, Tour boy.

Sadly, a number of the victorious roos from past seasons have departed
but are still there with us in spirit. The loss of bush gimp, billy boy,
cam, and one or two others will be hard to cover , but we are certainly
on the right track with a number of new names stepping up to the plate
and putting up their hand. We have some exciting new talent (so they
tell me) and to hone this exploding enthusiasm from this much needed
youthful infusion(?), our first training run will take place on Saturday
arvo in the Hirschgarten at 3:00 pm. Rain hail or shine, or perhaps even
snow, we will be there, cos you know why...no not cos of
our commitment, our undying loyalty to one another, and not even because
of our reputed toughness and passion for the
game...they opened the beer
garden last week!!!

Try and get down as punctual as possible. none of you work satdys so no
excuses and its deliberately sat ARVO so you pissheads have got time to
shake it off with plenty of time to spare. Saturday will be a good time
to meet new blokes and just have a light run and a bit of a kick.
Afterwards there's always the mandatory mass in the beergarden and then
back to my place just round the corner to watch the Wizard cup grand
final played a week ago between the sainters and the demons in the night
grand final in Melbourne. We have the tape!!! Even if you cant
participate in the whole ritual get ya narra ass down there at some
stage, if only for an hour, and then we can get ideas of numbers and i
can give everyone copies of the fixtures etc...

Also to keep in mind is the first(and only) pre-season match which is in
Frankfurt on April 17, 2004, so there aint much time to waste. Details
on that will be diuscussed on satdy. For you softcocks, please check
with the missus now so you'll know by satdy!!!I won't name names just
yet!!! Training will be on saturday just to get everyone there and the
we can decide on what night ,during the week perhaps, is best for
everyone. If anyone cant get there satdy then can you email me back and
let me know when is good for you...(training that is)

All right lads, looking forward to see who will actually drag their
arses down there, as i have had a good response from a number of new
people so hopefully we may have enough numbers for a bit of a scratch
match.

OK - Training on tonight at 6pm...come down, it's heaps of fun. There's a game in Frankfurt next weekend, for anyone who wants to go on a footy trip!!

Directions:

Easiest way is Laim S bahn or the tram along Arnulf strasse which leaves
from hauptbahnhof. Here are directions as follows:

If you are going by s-bahn from town get off the train and go down the stairs to the underground tunnel. Depending which side of the stairs you take you will go different ways at the bottom of the stairs. If you come down the stairs directly into the tunnel, turn right. if not and there is a bike track etc, turn left. Follow that street till you come to a set of traffic lights where there is a soccer club on the corner. turn right at the lights and that street will actually take you to the hirsch garden. just follow the path around till you find us. i'll put a mass on it you won't find too many people kicking an aussie rules pill around. You can also get the tram along arnulfstrasse which is # 16 or 17 it think which stops at steuben platz.Walk straight into the park and follow the path to your left hand side all the way around till you come to a big hill and a clearing with a red clay soccer pitch over the far side of it.

OK...we've got our first game of Aussie Rules on Saturday. The weather forecast is (unfortunately) crap.

However, should the day be fine or if you'd like to watch the game played in weather conditions similar to Melbourne at this time of the year, then head down to the Hirschgarten at around 2pm - this Saturday, 22 May. It'd be great to see as many people as possible. Afterwards there's still time to go to the Stammtisch, or if you have tickets, the Aussie Ball.

So make a day of it and support your local footy team - the Munich Kangaroos!!!

as my brother lives in melbourne i may come down just for the fun of it,
will of coarse bring son and explain that i do not understand one tweeny bit of what is happening.

as i don't want him to think me lacking in the i-know-the-rules-to-every-sport-son department, could you post a link to the rules?
Hazza
Here you go:

Rules of the game

i'll read 'em and remain on the list of admired fathers
Wee Man
Right guys the grand final is tomorrow and the Munich Roo's are going to beat whoever wins the match between Frankfurt and Düsseldorf!

The whole team arrive back on sunday and are going straight to the bondi to watch the final of the european cup! So whoever wants to come and help us celebrate our premiership glory feel free to pop in!

On that note I must start to get myself psyced up for the match!

Graham
wouldn't you all rather play Touch rugby?
Hazza
No, not particularly...wouldn't you rather play Aussie Rules?
Wee Man
Touch rugby is for women! If you want to play rugby play the proper thing none of this touch crap!
KoRnFlaKe
Graham, I wouldn't piss the Wee Man off. He might be small but he's the best bloody tackler around these parts.
