Hi All,
Happy New Year and all that crap.
A couple of ideas from last nights expedition into the darkness.
We decided to venture over Rotkreuzplatz way for a change.
1st stop was Ysenegger ( http://www.ysenegger.de ) for a few beers and some food. Simple but good menu, very good service, plenty of atmosphere. Bonus points because the waitress organised some ice-cream with candles for my mates birthday. Plus, got to see a little drama unfold as a very attractive woman at the next table, who was obviously stood-up, fired off a load of SMS messages, twisted her straw into slightly voodoo shapes and then left all on her lonesome.
Next stop was around the corner to Babaree ( http://www.babaree.de ) on Volkartstrasse. Nice little cellar bar which I hadn't been into before. Good layout but last night it was pretty much deserted. Will have to go back again to see if the atmosphere improves. Good points:- very cute & friendly waitress, got free shots (due to the birthday thing again). Bad points:- the toilets have arctic temperatures, the Helles is a well dodgey brand called Wildbrau which I'm blaming my current nasty headache on.
After a little debate (and a snowball flight) as to our next venue we headed around the corner (different one this time) to The Big Easy on Frundsbergstraße ( http://www.thebigeasy.de ) for the last few. I do like this place. Cool laid back jazz, excellent service from the über-stunning waitress, Funda, who is part Syrian, part Turkish & part German (WOW!). I'm told the food is excellent, but we were beyond eating at that stage. Next time...
A good night had by all.
