Let your kid hold the hand of a footballer

...and get to see a World Cup game

Much as I don't want to promote McDonalds, they have a rather fab little competition going on now for kids aged between 6 & 10. They are looking for 800 kids to walk out with the footballers at the WC games. An adult gets to accompany them to the game.

Unfortunately, my little guy is too young by one year which is maybe just as well becuase the parental fight over who would get to accompany him might have become rather viscious.

You can pick up application forms in McDonalds and probably online too. They have to write/draw something as to why they should be picked and attach a photo.

Judging by TT, not many people are getting tickets for the WC, so might be worth a shot.

I wouldn't mind, far from it (and in the unlikely event of one of my kids being selected I'd definitely be the one to go along, my husband not being a fan), but I don't like the idea of giving photos of the kids. Am I overreacting?
Tara
Kay,
Why would you be worried about a photo? What do you think could happen?

I remember living in Canada that I was not allowed to take photos of my son at the swimming pool and the kindergarten asked you to fill out a form just to put photos of the children on the classroom wall. I thought it a bit over the top.

don't personally see anything wrong with giving a piccie of the kids
why is it a problem?
Tara
I imagine that the photos are probably for McDonalds to provide a diversity of children in order to make Germany look like multi-culti heaven.

That and the fact that they probably don't want to run the risk of some fuck ugly little snot-nosed short-arse being broadcast on TV all round the world as a representative example of the Bavarian gene pool.

@tara; topsy
It's not that I'm worried that something might happen, I just don't like the idea of sending the pics off and not knowing where they are, especially when on the application form there's also bound to be the name, address and phone number...

I am with Kay on this one, my kids are too cute and I don't want someone to steal them

My oldest did a commercial for McDonalds and the European cup a couple years ago - of course, you couldn't see much of him in the commercial, and just his ear on the flags they give away at micky dee's, but it was fun for him and he got to keep the "Portugal" uniform. I think he was too young to enter the competition at the time though wink.gif His favorite thing about it all was the followup press conference where he met Ronald McDonald. Oh yeah, Micheal Bollack was there, too (like he cared).
Anyway - I will (time permitting) sign him up for it, if he wants to. The younger is the football/soccer fan, but is too young.

Don't tell anyone, I'm in Munich incognito.
