Hi All,

Anybody hava a spare 17" or greater flat-screen monitor for sale?

Or ... perhaps you could post recommendations on economically feasible stores.

So far, SATURN is the only place I've checked. They have a good selection, but
prices are exhorbitant (compared to, for example, Circuit-City )

There is ebay - and a good selection indeed. But, That comes with the problem
of shipping and VAT taxes ... and some risk.

Cheers
Darkknight
Ebay = VAT Tax?? Only if your buying from a company, if you get it from a person then they should not be charging VAT. Other than that you are correct. You could try to ebay a TFT locally in Munich and arange to pick it up..
UrbanAngel
17'' Belinea computer screen for free You could ask if theirs is flat screen.
Darkknight
Already Done.. I saved'em the trouble biggrin.gif

Staples.de have an offer on a 17" TFT for €199 at the moment. Was just over there having a looksee and they're not bad.
Netonnet.de have a 19" going for €249 which is probably what I'll be getting.
Darkknight
Nice Price, but crap on the Specs... I'd hold off

Blickwinkel: 170/170 H°/V° 5
Kontrast: 500:1
Helligkeit: 300 cd/m2
Reaktionszeit: 16 ms
Anschluss: 15-pin mini D-sub
VESA: 100 standard

I'd argue that for most people it's perfectly fine. I had a looksee today at the one in Staples and it'd be perfectly fine for my requirements. You can always wait and wait for better specs at a better price and there'll always be a better deal down the road but you have to buy eventually. For the average user who's just looking for a screen that's reasonably sharp and won't die in two months I reckon they're a good deal.
Darkknight
@KD
True... But the ones I'm looking at have much better specs. and are currently going for around 265-300 Eur. For this you get the following
changes.

Kontrast:700:1
Reaction Time: 8 ms
Some even have a DVI

This TFT from Neto, maybe fine for most people, as long as you don't play any fast paced 3D type games. If this is you then grab it.. But it ain't me biggrin.gif

Before you decide to but it, look Here and see what 250Eur will get you
Performance wise.. wink.gif

From NetonNet the 19" I mentioned is from Videoseven, is also €249 and has the following:

Given that I never play computer games, and know pretty much bugger all about monitor technology, can you tell which one is better and why? Whilst the contrast figure for the Alternate one seems to be higher, the reaction time for the netonnet model appears to be faster.

A spelling error from our Keydeck huh.gif . The world is going to hell.

My monitor just quit on me. I'm thinking of going down to Saturn for this one 19" Sony LCD with 8ms for €339.- : Saturn

What do you experts think? Should I get it?
Kat
No answers yet (yes, I'm impatient), so I'm just gonna go on over there and get it. Best I can see from price/quality comparisons is that it's good. My main problem with the thing is that it's Sony. I hate that company. Evil empire corporation, but I can't fight it. Need the thing.
You late experts can now post what a horrible mistake I've made here. ph34r.gif

I also, in principle, hate Saturn and Sony's policies. However, after the great sales during the Christmas campaign, there has been a number of items returned which are being sold bargained due to their original boxes missing, specially monitors and already configured tower computers. I purchased a Sony lcd the other day reduced from 327 to 287 €. This way one doesn´t invest on Saturn nor has to stand Sony´s product presentation as much as they intends one to and can keep a decent post-sale service.

Hey!

How are you doing with your LCDs? Which one(s) did you buy?

I am planning to buy one too. Now I set my eyes on ACER 19" TFT-MONITOR AL1916WAS WIDE:
http://www.alternate.de/html/product/detai...owTechData=true

Any comments?

I see conrad.de also have it. Any body has experience with them? Is it possible to order online and pickup in a local store?

My laptop is DELL 700m. Hope there won't be any compatibility problem.

I don't like wide screens. The Resolution is not standard and some games have problems working with it. Since my last post to this thread I have purchased a Dualhead setup consisting of 2 Samsung Syncmaster 904b TFT's (20 in) and have been very happy with their performance.. They run about 479 Eur each if your looking to buy...

I have a 17" TFT flatscreen that I no longer use since I bought a laptop. PM me for details.

I use LCD mainly for movie watching, so I prefer wide screens. Playing games is another story. Are there any wide-screen games?

What do you need double head for? a super wide screen?

uh...huh unsure.gif
Darkknight
Orig plan was for tripple head, but it costs too much.. May still do it in the future.. I do Software Dev. work and network Eng. So I usually need more than 1 CAD, testing, monitoring windows open. besides you haven't played FlightSim-X or another cool game until you've do it on a double/tripple head system biggrin.gif
Uncle Jamal
I'm looking at a Samsung Super Sync 205 BW 20 incher for 320 euros. Anyone got a reason why I shouldn't go for it?
ian
1) Always note the Resolution! Not all 17" screens have the same resolution. It affects the price and the quality! These days they are mostly 1280 x 1024 pixels.

2) For internet prices use a comparison site like idealo. Go to google type in what you are looking for followed by idealo.
EG type in: TFT monitor idealo. They will compare all of the online stores including ebay. Pick a store you like the look of and check delivery charge.
Kza
I have been looking at a widescreen lcd, it seems the best size for the price ratio is around 22", you can pick those up in the mid to high 3 digits, but once you go up to 23" they are all at least a grand.
Darkknight
Or just go straight to the Idealo.de website and by-pass google

PS: Cheapest price @ Ideal is 292 Eur From Pixmania - Link
Uncle Jamal
Saw that too - in fact including delivery it ends up costing around 315 from Pixmania. So a little difference, but not much.

Looks like a decent screen and has got good reviews, although having read one particular review I wanted the 215 BW model, but just cannot justify the extra 160 eurines...
Uncle Jamal
Can someone (DK) explain the contrast stat please?

Difference between 600:1 and 2000:1 for example.
Darkknight
LCD Contrast Resolution

Uncle Jamal
Cheers. I'll reprhase as that page didn't quite hit the spot for me.

So is 600:1 better than 2000:1?
sGb27
2000:1 is better, means the monitor can display a wider range of brightnesses (ie blacker blacks compared to white).
Uncle Jamal
Kinell, so on the Litec site I saw a 20 incher by LG which did 2000:1 versus the Smasung's 600:1. I hate it when I realise the meaning of things like this as I can not now go down town tonight and make a purchase without doubt in my mind. Thanks...I think.
Darkknight
Aww.. Just goto Saturn and get a 32in Apple Cinema Display biggrin.gif
canuck
A good site for monitor information/reviews is www.prad.de.
Uncle Jamal
I bought the Samsung. Bollox to contrast stats, it looks nice and the picture is pretty fine.
Keydeck
That's the way to do it sir.
