At "Sarovar" in Maxvorstadt

This was spotted the other night on the wall in Sarovar.

Keydeck
Here's a closeup.

I know it's not a Nazi swastika and I specifically didn't include this on the swastika's in Munich thread. Just thought it was interesting.

See Wikipedia for loads of info on them.

Crawlie
Blimey. So there is.

"Spot the Swastika" would have worked as well
Rus
The swastika has been used in Indian for centuries and was adopted by the Nazis
The swastika is a holy symbol in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. In the West, it is more widely known as symbol of Nazism
SleeplessInMunich
The swastika was originally a buddhist symbol ( I think). I'm sure Google will tell you more.
It generally went the other way though (anti-clockwise).
Showem
I think I said at 2004's Christmas Eve dinner that Swagat needed to update their decor, maybe with a bunch of swastikas as a running border.

That of course led to another tack in the discussion.
UrbanAngel
There were loads in Japan too. Must stem more from Buddhism than Shintoism there.
TheDevilHimself
Yup its true. Rus is right. That is a holy symbol of Hindus and we have been using it for centuries.
Keydeck
There was no question as to its origin and use in the context of the picture above.
UrbanAngel
I didn't know that the devil was a Hindu.
benzinrot
not referring to the hindu , but the devil comes in many forms
arshoo
religious devil sort of a paradox aint it, would mean that he prays to God, surely he has to be an atheist. or does that just apply to a belief that there is God wacko.gif
TheDevilHimself
I was till, the time 666 was spotted on the back of my head. Then the world just changed for me!!! wink.gif
Inflatablewoman
I was under the impression the devil is the opposite of god, however, being the opposite would imply that he too is all knowing just an evil bastard... I don't see how that would fit into the teching of christianity.

Hmmm.
Inflatablewoman
Ahh.

Christianity views Satan as an angel cast from heaven by God. Fair enough.

According to Bild, the number of the beast is actually 616. A mistake in translation resulted in 666 wink.gif
UrbanAngel

Therein lies the problem with being overly critical all the time, people are always watching for your own failures, bugger laugh.gif

I didn't want to include this in the other thread as I didn't want the name Sarovar too closely linked with a thread involving lots of Nazi stuff. Especially as I was specifically saying that I knew it wasn't a Nazi swastika. Weird but true.

To which the Satanists have replied:

"Peter Gilmore, High Priest of the Church of Satan, based in New York, said: 'By using 666 we're using something that the Christians fear. Mind you, if they do switch to 616 being the number of the beast then we'll start using that.' "

This symbol is quite common in India. You can see it in every Hindu home and religious events. It is symbolic of luck and prosperity back home.

I actually thought that ikt is older than even before the region where India is now started to use it. It was used in many ancient Egyptian symbols. In fact you can see some at the Egypt Museum in Berlin.
