HI All,

Has anyone run across Karo Corn Syrup (or similar) here in Munich anywhere? I have to bake a pie for tomorrow...

I can't figure out what the German equivalent would be... would also be grateful for a translation if anyone can provide me one. Can't find "corn syrup" in any of the online dictionaries I checked.

Thanks in advance.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Give us the recipe and we can suggest good alternatives. I find honey and maple syrup usually can fill in in most recipes.

Too late for your pie, but might help someone else's - Weizen-Sirup can sometimes be found in health food stores (e.g. Vitaquell brand)

You can make it yourself.

Really? ph34r.gif I have been hoarding a bottle of that for a few years now... (Along with a few other things I am sure can be found locally or substituted for)

I have tried that Goldsaft stuff...but nothing in Munich I have found is like the corn syrup from back home:

I always just bring it back with me.

Light corn syrup is the same as inverted syrup. 3 parts sugar to 1 part water I think (it could be 2:1). You will just need to add a bit of corn flour for taste as you cook it to make it a syrup. If you want the dark stuff, then make one or two parts of the sugar with molassses or similar. Überrube is a good substitute.
