Where to buy pecans / pecan nuts

Suggested stores in Munich

I am making sugared pecans for my office Christmas party and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I would definitely find Pecans. I don't really feel like wandering the grocery stores in search of an elusive nut...
eurovol
I have only seen them at Metro. Make sugared almonds instead if you have too because pecans are really expensive here.
Saan
They can be found at Viktualienmarkt but are rather expensive.
SOB
anyone... pecans
Jeeves
Sugared pecans will be available at the Oktoberfest. It would just be a matter of whether they'll keep until Christmas. Not cheap there either, however.
As for plain pecans, the only place I've seen them in the whole of Germany was in the KDW!
katz
e.bay has pecans
SOB
I need them now! Today... I need to bake me a pie
SOB
whats KDW
Jeeves
Sorry, should really be KaDeWe or Kaufhaus des Westens in Berlin. Not much use to you today I guess.
Eleanor Rigby
KaDeWe is awesome, you can get bottles of Molson Canadian beer there.

Entirely beside the point though.
BadDoggie
I can bring a couple pounds of pecans back next week and I can have a couple hundred pounds in early September, but I need to know by the end of the day.

woof.
SOB
I found some, in my cupboard... think that would of been my first place to look, so I'll sadly be missing GNO and baking a pie tonight, how depressing...
SOB
as for the pecans.. found them at the little market place under the department store... the one by the hauptbanhof... ya know... anyways ask IW he knows where... but they were 3.50 for a tiny little bag... but were the crucial ingredient and made all the difference in the pie so it was well worth it
UrbanAngel
You mean Hertie, I presume.
SOB
there it is! thanks

A few years ago, you could get pecans in any supermarket here, but now it's almost impossible to find them. Anyone know why? Bad harvest? Or are they just not trendy anymore?
Gen
Just got pecans (loose, by the cash register near the candy section) in the Galeria Kaufhof am Marienplatz for 2.49 per 100 grams. Cheaper than in the little bags from World of Nuts (also found at Metro). Das Spanische Fruchthaus am Roseneck has them too but pricier.

For the last ten years I've been living here, it's been hard to find pecans. GT, how many years ago were they common?
Katrina
Plus stocks them in the Viva Vital range - 1,79€ for 125g and has done since the range was launched some time back.
Cheaper than in the little bags? Hardly.
duellema
Watch out for Aldi's American weeks... they have them. I bought loads and froze them, but I just ran out.
Gen
Wow, Katrina found some even cheaper than what I'd found! Great, thanks for posting that! smile.gif
Jozi
I also saw them in the Plus store the other day - looked okay, not sure how fresh they were though.

There definitely was a time when you could get them everywhere, but I can't recall exactly when. Was it really more than 10 years ago? I must be aging faster than I realised. sad.gif

Muffins & More in the Volkartstr. (Volkartstr. exit of Rotkreuzplatz U-Bahn) might have pumpkin pie on sale - but phone & check first.

Marina (the pie maker) is Canadian and JJ who works there also speaks English, so just ask for Pumpkin Pie.
They generally always have apple pie, several different cheesecakes, pecan pie... sold mostly by the slice, but will sell you a whole one (or bake to order with notice - tend to get my birthday cheesecake from them).

Available via the search function.

Thanks Katrina - I went there and had some of their pecan pie, tasted great. Kind of strange place that tho, unsual decor and it was full of eccentric looking people. I think the operators are exHippies - I am sure I could smell pot in the air.
