I need to get a new glass refrigerator shelf. My basic German suggests this may be called an ablageplatte - is that correct or is there a better translation? Also, does anyone know of a place in Munich or nearby that might sell universal parts such as this?

I broke mine in my old apartment, I just took it in (taped up) to a Glass place and they had me a new one in about a week. Look for a glass working place in your area, and then go in with eithe the measurements or the old plate.

that would imply a window.

I just repeated what a German said they would use. So, it would not imply a glass window. But there may be more descriptive words.

Gemüsefachabdeckglasplatte. Seriously. Give them your fridge type and throw that word at them, they should understand. It's the glass shelf which covers the vegetable bin.

Don't you mean Ocean Spray?

You can get that at Walmart now. As for the replacement glass, see the prior post amongst others.

If you have the instructions you'll find the telephone number for maintenance, alternatively you can get the number by looking up the manufacturer in the phone-book or looking at their website. Simply call them, tell them the fridge type, and ask them to send you a replacement. If you can't speak German, get a colleague to make the call for you. You need the department for 'Ersatzteile'. Good luck!
