what will be the 1st vist charge and i want an inquiry for the pills... so wht will be cost for the same...
LFF
Hi Nokia - I have nothing but praise for Dr Hilderscheid - she's really nice, has a swanky new praxis in marienplatz and i've never had a problem with the bills
Hilderscheid
I'm not sure how much initial visits cost, and the price of the pill very much depends on what type you get (mini-pill is more expensive i think)

good luck
Citizen M
I can recommend Dr Margarita Summerer Moustaki, she´s from New York.
I am going tomorrow...

For her contact details see post #142

Hi Citizen M,

thks for advising doctors name plz can u tell me how much she charge for the first visit if u dont have the insurance so... i am just newly married and i have an inquiry for the pills...

regards
Showem
Why not phone them up and ask? Everyone's price will probably be different because they are there for different reasons.
Citizen M
Hi Nokia,

sorry I cannot answer you this question since I am insuranced (public) and so I just give my insurance card and they send all bills to the Krankenkasse and not to me.

But as Showem said, probably if you give them a call they´ll tell you the cost.

My OB/GYN is neither female, nor have I ever spoken to him in English, but he´s very nice, gentle, chats, and explains things (which I find rare for German doctors). I highly recommend him, as he is also located centrally on Sendlingerstrasse (24, I believe). His name is Christian Frank.

My personal experience has been that women gynecologists are very rough and tend to hurt me, whereas men seem to treat my body with the respect, or at least gentle care, that I prefer.

Hello,

I'd like to find a new obgyn who is female and under 50. I'd also like that the practice be in central Munich. If you have a suggestion, please respond. Thanks!

I see so many recent recommendations for Dr. Margarita Summerer-Moustaki, I just had to add in my two cents. I went to her and was quite disappointed.

I chose her from the US consulate list because she's American and she specializes in infertility. For a regular pap, she was fine. But when we started infertility process, she was just not on top of things. I had recently moved here from the U.S. and wanted to continue treatment from the U.S. with the aid of a specialist in Munich. Dr. Summerer-Moustaki understood what I needed to accomplish with her and had no problem with it. Basically, I would need a bunch of testing and presciptions from her to continue my treatment with my U.S. doctor. She did poorly on both accounts. With the testings, I gave her a very explicit list of blood tests required. I had to go back 3 times to do this because I was always missing something. Then with the prescriptions, I told her in advance what drugs I will be needing to start the treatment. When the date was drawing near that I would need to start taking the drug, I had to call her a couple of times to remind her. Finally, she called me back to inform me that one of the drugs I needed does not exist in Germany. But they have it in Italy and it would take 7 days to get it here. Well, by the time she had told me this, I had only 4 days left before I needed to start on the medication. I was very upset because these treatments were very time-sensitive. Rather than her offering an alternative solution, I had to ask her what did she use for her patients under the same treatment. After being informed of this alternative drug, I checked with my U.S. doctor and they said it was ok for me to use that instead. I can't believe she didn't offer this info to me until I asked.

Anyway, in my opinion, if you're seeking infertility treatment, don't go to her. I guess she's ok for regular ob/gyn stuff. But overall, I'm not impressed with her. I now go to Dr. Hildersheid. So far, I think she's great.

Just had my first appt. with Dr. Hilderscheid... went great, and I would also like to recommend her. I emailed her office on friday for an appt, had a response monday and an appointment available for that following friday.

I haven't received the bill yet, of course, but she did not do any unnecessary tests and I expect what happened to the other poster was a misunderstanding or isolated incident.

Her office is soooooo nice (located between Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz)! And awesome magazines to pass the time- and I had plenty of time to kill, after they sent me back to the waiting room to gorge on her 'feast of chocolate' after almost fainting from some blood being drawn. They were all very nice throughout the exam, and after my little dizzy spell, checked on me regularly and showed genuine concern.

Excellent english by both the reception/nursing staff and Dr. Hilderscheid. I had some specific questions for Dr. Hilderscheid, which she answered a little over my head, but got the gist through to me and put some concerns I had to rest. Very attentive and very knowledgeable (and mercifully fast, when it came to the PAP). Also, she also did some fun(?) new stuff I'd never seen before- part of the womens annual is to have a magic wand show you your uterus and ovaries. All looked great, and she said my ovary looked beautiful. biggrin.gif

Would definitely recommend Dr. Hilderscheid, and will continue to see her.

I just want to clarify - Dr. Hilderscheid does NOT take public insurance, correct?
Eleanor Rigby
That's correct.

Thanks very much!

A quick update: Dr. Teicher has now moved to Weinstr. 3 on Marienplatz right next to Donisl. I have an appointment but haven't actually seen him yet.

@raingof
Dr. Katja Freitag, her praxis is close to Arabellapark U-Bahn station. My wife consults her. She is very friendly and speaks English.

I have truly appreciated reading the advice and experiences of all on this thread. However, I find myself needing a bit more help. I'm trying to contact Dr. Margarita Summerer-Moustaki. I'm just getting a recording, and my Deutsch is nicht gut! Does anyone know if she has a web address?
RaiderRed
All is good. After several days of calling, I finally spoke to a receptionist today. Hooray...she spoke English!

Hi,

I need to make an appointment for my smear and wondered if anyone has any experience with Dr Dietrich Hallmann in Ottobrunn? As I live outside of Munich and my husband works in Unterhaching, it would be the ideal place for me. I am looking to have children whilst in Germany so any experience of that would also be helpful.

Many thanks

Hi folks, I'm new to visiting doctors in Munich. To get a contraceptive prescription, do you need to see a Frauenartzt or can you just go to a Hausartzt? Also, do they just take your blood pressure and medical history like in the UK, or do tehy subject you to all sorts of tests first? (I hate visiting gynos so want to be forewarned...)
Thanks in advance!
kiara87
Hi,
I just went 3 weeks ago to the Gynecologist to ask about the contraceptive pill and I found a very good doctor! He is German, but he also speak a very good italian(I am Italian) tongue.gif

By the way,he has done a normal gynecologic visit + an echography, without blood exams and then He has given me the prescription immediatly.
Nice and easy!
psu02
i think you have to go to a frauenarzt - usually they want to do a check-up before prescribing - that has been my experience anyways

Hello,

Can anybody recommend an OB/GYN who also has some knowledge in gestational diabetes (or endocrinology)? Does not have to speak English, but would be nice. Preferably in central Munich, reachable by public transportation.

Thanks.

Dr. Teicher, he helped a couple of women I know with high risk pregnacies.

arien.
HJH1
Thanks for the tip arien78! I'll check her out.

I saw dr. Olerich for about three years and found her to be nice so long as nothing was wrong. Her English was not that great, but good enough to get the job done. When I got pregnant I had a high risk pregnancy. I was really worried and I asked her questions about it and she flatly told me she didn't have time to answer them and had other patients waiting. I was feeling pretty delicate as you do when you'Re pregnant and scared because I was losing amniotic fluid and had high blood pressure. After she snapped at me I came out of her office sobbing. They proceeded to take my blood and couldn'T find a vein and I almost passed out, then they took my blood pressure, which was through the roof. I had to be sent straight to the hospital. I never went back to her after that.

After that I switched to the Leifels-Fischer and Schulze practice in Gern. Tel. 30668760. I had to go in nearly every day for two months because of the high-risk situation and both doctors were great. They also have up to date ultra sound equipment and friendly staff. I spoke to them in German, so I'm not sure how good their English is. In a recent report in the paper they were rated as one of the top gyn. practices in Munich.
arien78
oh oh!!...this is terrible!!..how can a doc act like this!!!...dunno what to say!!...sad.gif
HJH1
Gopher, could you tell me where you saw the list of top rated ob / gyn practices?
samcaton
you could also go to Arlette Schwöbel. tel: 89-28 77 79 05, kaulback str. 1 (near the English garden).

i see Dr. Giesen and she is lovely, one of the nicest medics i have met in Munich. and everyone there speaks English and is also very nice.

i also went to Olerich (sp?) and thought that she was a bit crap, not to mention super stressy!!!... and not that great.
cinzia
@HJH1, I had borderline "gestational diabetes" and was referred by my Frauenarzt to an endocrinologist for management. I still visited the obstetrician for regular pregnancy checkups.
kalinka
Please forgive me if this is a slightly dim question.

I've found a doctor near where I work and have heard only good things about him. The specialisation is Geburtshilfe and Frauenheilkunde. I'm only going to see the doctor in order to get a contraceptive prescription, I only want to see him about the usual boring stuff. Would such a doctor provide these services or am I better looking for another one, less specialist? Or should I ring up and check? First time I've done this and the specialisations are confusing me no end!

Hi, I just wanted to add my experience with Dr. Summerer-Moustaki to the thread.

I am a new patient with public insurance, and was able to get an appointment for a routine checkup in 2 weeks time. Today when I went, I had to wait for about 20 minutes past my appointment time. During this time, an assistant took my blood pressure, read my medical history, etc. She was able to speak a bit of English, but seemed to prefer to speak German, and was very friendly. While waiting, the doctor came out to call another patient in at which point I became quite confused, because she was older and German (as opposed to Greek-American and younger(?) ). It turns out that I saw Dr. Siedler today. She was very quick but thorough, and friendly. However, we spoke German except for a few words, and she was asking me the English words for certain OB/GYN vocabulary, so I'm not really sure to what extent she speaks English. Overall, I found her to be very professional and reasonably warm, and was satisfied with the visit. However, they didn't tell me at the time of the appointment which doctor I was to see (I didn't even realize that it was a practice), so it may be important to specify if you can't speak German and really need to see Dr. Summerer-Moustaki.
KaBo7
I think Dr. Summerer-Moustaki (sorry, I know I just slaughtered the spelling), might be on maternity leave. At least the last time I went in, Feb, she was pregnant.

I didn't read the thread, so sorry if she has already been mentioned, but I just went to a new dr. recomended by a good friend. She was very good and friendly and acually took time to listen and talk with you.

My husband and I are moving to Munich next week. I am going to be 6 and half months along with my pregnancy. I have a list from his company of english speaking OBs and was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of them. I haven't seen these doctor's names on this forum yet. We will have public insurance. Some of the doctors are:
Dr. Mary Ann Plflanz, Dr. Tania Lehmann, Dr. Reimund Adamczyk and Dr. Silke Dabelstein. I am open to hearing about some other good OBs, but they must speak english. Thanks for your help!
Jozi
Congrats on your pregnancy. I am 5 and a half months along and have been seeing Dr Uta Euler in Schwabing-West (I am not sure where you will be staying). Her practice as a whole came recommended to me by the previous (English-speaking) tenant of my flat and she has not disappointed. She speaks excellent English (more so than any other German doctor I have seen in Munich). I know from the previous tenent that Dr Kunstein also speaks excellent English. The practice itself is accessible by tram, Bus or U-Bahn and the place is warm and inviting. All the staff there are friendly and even if they don't speak any English,. they really make the effort with you. The website is here. Be sure to tell them that you are so far along and they will arrange an earlier appointment for you. I would really recommend this practice.

Good luck.

Did you look through this thread at all? Dr. Silke Dabelstein is mentioned in it about half a dozen times.

Do an advanced search on the various names, I'm sure you'll find at least some of them mentioned in other threads as well. Btw, "Plflanz" looks a bit odd, the name is probably "Pflanz". Good luck!

@merryeri,

Dr. Summerer-Moustaki normally runs the practice alone but KaBo7 is right. She is on maternity leave. When I called to congratulate her on the baby, we also talked about her schedule. She said she is only there Tuesdays and Fridays and that it would be better for my wife to make her future appointments for those two days, since the other doctor doesn't speak English.

I haven't had the chance to meet Dr. Siedler yet but I can vouch for Dr. Moustaki. She is very thorough, straightforward and communicative, which is what we look for in a doctor. Also, she worked in the Klinikum-Großhadern maternity ward (apparently one of the best in Germany) before opening her own practice, and knows everyone there personally. If a couple goes through what we have gone through during a pregnancy (don't ask!), this kind of thing becomes rather important.
jen13
I am also a patient of Dr.Moutsaki and she is out on maternity leave. She had a baby boy end of April..I would have to say that she is one of the BEST doctors that I have seen here or in the US. She really takes time to talk to you. If there is a problem, she will send you right away to a specialist and in my case, she went with me twice to see another doctor. I would highly recommend her to anyone that is in need of an OB/GYN. Also, she does not like to speculate to the patient about "potential" bad things, rather she will wait until she has all the facts and then tell you.

My only "complaint" is that the nurse/dr helper girl speaks very little English, which is fine since we are in Germany, but since dr. Moustaki has a lot of english speaking patients, she should be able to know words used in medical questions..it "helps"??? to speak German with her, but she does not always understand German with an American accent..She is a sweet girl...
Overall, it is a very friendly practice here.
hello24
I read some recomendations for Dr. Uta Euler and have fixed an appointment with her. Can some of you please tell me your(more)) feedback on her? I am planning on a second baby and my first pregnancy was kind of troubled. I went To Dr. Hilderscheid that time but I am not private anymore and thus cannot continue with her. Anyone on the thread has bicornuate probs? Please tell me your end of the story and what all tests did you go for.
Jozi
I am currently a patient of Dr Euler's and she has been fantastic. She was trained in the UK and even worked for a little bit in Namibia. Her English is excellent. She is friendly and approachable, but open and honest at the same time without being alarming. The practice as a whole is warm and inviting. She makes herself available at any time and I am told by the person who referred me to her that she will deal with an emergency no matter what the time. The assistants don't really speak English but if you tell them that you don't speak much German, they try their hardest to get their point across and are generally friendly. I have not had any problems in my pregnancy thus far and so have not been for any special tests but I did go for the Anomaly scan at 20 weeks and I was referred by Dr Euler to Pränatal-Medizin Practice which also was a pleasant experience - there I saw Dr Schramm who was fantastic and I am told, one of the best in the business. He obliged me with English as well. Anyways, hope it all goes well ... you will be in good hands.
