they aren't scrambling jets, just ongoing EFA testing

you'd be the one to know but it has been said that they would be having fighters patrolling over munich for the games.
KiwiOT
Certainly heard it here in Gröbenzell and the B I was trying to write at the time didn't turn out anything like a B at all! I can't believe that they don't have elderly people with dodgey tickers keeling over at these times.

Same here (moi, in Sendling); usually even my windows shake but this is the first time that I didn't hear a thing.

And here I thought it was just me!

The first time I heard them, it scared the bejesus out of me! I thought for sure that a mortar had landed in the neighborhood.

GAF isn't yet fully operational with the new jets yet. That's not to say they couldn't do air-to air if they wanted to.

I have a great view here over the city (to the alps on one side and across flatness on the other) and I can't see any things flying around. ...

They're flying so fast (ie. breaking the sound barrier) that you didn't see them!!! biggrin.gif

And they are pretty small compared to "normal" passenger planes you see in the sky. If they are up high you will find it very difficult to spot them.
Yeti
Heard it down here (Ammersee) as well, maybe it's to scare the Costa Ricans ?
cinzia
More Eurofighter testing? Just heard two funny booms, direction south of Ramersdorf.
bluedave
oops sorry about that Cinzia, knew i shouldn't have had that curry last night ohmy.gif
the Boy From Bozlem
didnt boom but just went past my window

I've heard fighter jets off and on since I arrived here in early June. They are definitely testing something, they've been buzzing south of Starnberg regularly lately. Low flying and deafening!
Keydeck
Fast low-flying jet just buzzed Westend. Didn't see it but it made quite a racket.
Leebo84
same here, pretty sure it was single-engined jet.
UrbanAngel
Din't hear nuffink guv'nor.

I read today that Saudi Arabia has just ordered 72 of these babies. Maybe it was a celebratory sonic boom? This will keep a few TTers in jobs, eh?

Anybody else here a really big boom around 16:45, Thursday Nov 9, 2006 blink.gif

I live near Wasserman, roughly Belgrad and Herzog strasse. It didn't sound like thunder and it shook my building. Just curious if anybody else heard/felt it.

TCH
Yep, heard it near Luisenstrasse/Shellingstr. No idea what it was though. I hear them once in a (long) while...
Wheel
Huge wasn't it? No idea what it was. There are sometimes sonic booms as they test aircraft, but it seems unlikely in this weather.
Twinsie
I heard it too and the funky thing is, I live 20 km southwest of Munich near Fürstenfeldbruck!!
bluedave
Probably the boys playing with their toys again smile.gif
Panama
I heard it also in Garching, so most probably is some test with some plane as a few months ago.

Edit: yeap, exactly that link that Dave provided.
iain
Heard it up here in freising as well shocked the bejesus out of me. must be the eurofighters at it again.
nuwoman
Any idea what it was? It was so loud, it was unnerving.
nuwoman
I'm based in Schwabing. Anybody else hear it?
xena
Heard it pretty load in Pasing.
perdido
Its been going on in Regensburg the last few days and it is jets. Now merge this thread.
DDBug
I heard it and jumped - it sounded like it was coming from the west.
(and I was near Luitpold park at the time). I said was coming, because it seemed to echo to the north.
Small Town Boy
Definitely a sonic boom.
planetmoni

saschakurz

Heard it pretty load in Pasing.

So did I. Massive it was. Good job I was already in the doctor's waiting-room. Half those waiting nearly had heart attacks.
If it was a sonic boom then they ought to be banned over the city. Especially on Sundays.

HartlepoolLad
I heard it in Fürstenfeldbruck... Heard it a few times in the past too...

Past discussions:

Sonic booms from aircraft over Munich
Grinner
Looks like many folk have heard it before..
bluedave
The funny thing is, they never zap us at work, we don't hear them at all tongue.gif
BadDoggie
Sonic Boom. Heard it at OEZ as well. Shook all the fucking huge, plate glass windows in our building and the even bigger ones at the construction site across the street. WTF are they doing flying supersonic over city centres?

woof.
bluedave
Maybe some of them read this site and want to see how many people they can piss off ? laugh.gif

They're not doing it over city centres; we heard it loud and clear 40kms away up here. I guess the waves travel such a long distance that it's inevitable that major conurbations will hear it.
Dostoyevsky
The pilot was stopping by for shopping.
bluedave
In damp, dense air the shock wave will travel further anyway so they've probably been testing for days and it just hasn't reached here with such magnitude before today's weather.

It's thursday.

I don't think I said it wasn't.
It's just that everything should be banned on Sundays. What is the world coming to.
UrbanAngel
Did anyone else hear a boom just then?
UrbanAngel
Boom, anyone?

Or something from the building site..smile.gif
Grinner
Nothing here!

They havent found another Flieger bomb have they?? unsure.gif
