they aren't scrambling jets, just ongoing EFA testing
you'd be the one to know but it has been said that they would be having fighters patrolling over munich for the games.

Certainly heard it here in Gröbenzell and the B I was trying to write at the time didn't turn out anything like a B at all! I can't believe that they don't have elderly people with dodgey tickers keeling over at these times.

Same here (moi, in Sendling); usually even my windows shake but this is the first time that I didn't hear a thing.
And here I thought it was just me!
The first time I heard them, it scared the bejesus out of me! I thought for sure that a mortar had landed in the neighborhood.

GAF isn't yet fully operational with the new jets yet. That's not to say they couldn't do air-to air if they wanted to.

They're flying so fast (ie. breaking the sound barrier) that you didn't see them!!!

And they are pretty small compared to "normal" passenger planes you see in the sky. If they are up high you will find it very difficult to spot them.

I've heard fighter jets off and on since I arrived here in early June. They are definitely testing something, they've been buzzing south of
Starnberg regularly lately. Low flying and deafening!

I read today that Saudi Arabia has just ordered 72 of these babies. Maybe it was a celebratory sonic boom? This will keep a few TTers in jobs, eh?

Anybody else here a really big boom around 16:45, Thursday Nov 9, 2006
I live near Wasserman, roughly Belgrad and Herzog strasse. It didn't sound like thunder and it shook my building. Just curious if anybody else heard/felt it.

Yep, heard it near Luisenstrasse/Shellingstr. No idea what it was though. I hear them once in a (long) while...

Huge wasn't it? No idea what it was. There are sometimes sonic booms as they test aircraft, but it seems unlikely in this weather.

If it was a sonic boom then they ought to be banned over the city. Especially on Sundays.

They're not doing it over city centres; we heard it loud and clear 40kms away up here. I guess the waves travel such a long distance that it's inevitable that major conurbations will hear it.

In damp, dense air the shock wave will travel further anyway so they've probably been testing for days and it just hasn't reached here with such magnitude before today's weather.
