Where can I take my son to sit on Santa's lap so he can tell him what a good boy he has been and then ask for presents or just money, preferably 10's and 20's?

Come on, there has got to be a Santa somewhere in Munich for this. Help!
Alternatively, does anyone have a Santa outfit and want to play Santa on the 24th for my son?
Shit eurovol. I read the title of the thread and nearly had a heart attack. I thought that yo...
...nevermind.
Oh! It's for your son. Ahhhhh!

Actually I doubt you will find one in Munich seeing as its the Chriskindle(no idea how its spelt) that brings the presents to German kids.

We used to organize one - years ago - I will ask mr. ddbug if we still have the costume...
The organizing was easy, it was also an excuse to throw a party. Until my son figured out that "uncle Otto" disappeared the same time santa showed up. So the next year santa had a manchester accent, which made him question us as well.
Oh well... Let me know if you do find someone on the off chance that we still have the costume - I will drag my kids along too.

The guy down the street actually looks like Santa and he wouldn't need any stuffing or a beard just a suit. If I had access to a suit, I just might ask him. Ho ho ho.

Santa Claus doesn't come in Munich. Or Germany - for that matter. Nikolaus came Dec 6. Das Christkind comes on Heiligabend. That's the way it works here. Things don't always work as at 'home'. So re-adapt. Or repatriate. Basically - deal with it!

Finally someone mentions Christkind!!! Despite this not being the theme of the thread, I have to say I detest Santa Claus here in Germany. It is Christkind here at least it used to be. Commercially Christkind is disappearing slowly and it taken over by Santa Claus.
there are Niklaus appearances at the xmas markets but with 6th Dec gone, i am not sure where you can find them now.

Saw that coming.

Right, call the lads, there's gonna be a rumble.
Its great to teach kids about the local customs but its nice for parents to carry on with their own traditions too. Eurovol, I bet you and the other parents could put together a great DIY Santa day. You need what, an english speaking man, a suit, a chair, a tree, some decorations and some digital cameras. There's even photographers on TT that might pitch in (and hand out business cards eh).
Sounds like you got the neighbor, as far as locations go, you could check with the
Amerika Haus or if you want to go easy peasy then I bet you could create a nice setup in the back of the TwiBa. Hell Juergen would make a GREAT santa if kitted out properly with a suit and some stuffing. Oy and I bet there are some lovely ladies on TT that would volunteer for elf duty.

Germans? Don't approve of the present-giving on Christmas Eve meself - so the Christkind will be coming during the night and my child will wake up Christmas morning to her presents. Us forriners gotta realise that that's the way it is. Like I said. Santa Claus is not be found here. Full stop. Adapt. Or repatriate.

Germans?
You put your mother tongue as anything other than English and naturally enough people are going to assume that you are not a native speaker. Tis fair enough really. The truth will set you free.

No need to be rough here. Christmas is a celebration of love, no matter if it's the Christkindl or Santa Claus who brings the presents.

You haven't adapted then either. You've just twisted the santa claus thing to suit local custom and your prefrences. If you can't adapt to the giving out of the presents on xmas eve then stop telling others to apdate or go home.

You cannot fill a kid's head with Santa Claus stuff when all the other kids in the Kindergarten/Krippe are talkin about Nikolaus and the Christkind. So I've abandoned the Santa Claus myth. Adapted to the Christkind story. Except I believe it's better the kids wake up on Christmas morning to the excitement - rather than getting all excited Christmas Eve and then being shoved off to bed. So Christkind it is! I've adapted!
ah bless, now we're going ta argue about which mythical christmas tradition is best for the kids.

My kid speaks both languages and has both Santa and that other guy with the ugly robe and the pope hat.
He knows he is special and gets both.

This has nothing to do with adapting. It has everything to do with freedom of religion.
Christkindl and St. Nikolaus are both Christian figures, Santa is neutral. Any person, German or otherwise has the right to celebrate Christmas according to his own belief structure.
Granted, I'm not expecting to find Santa at the mall but if someone wants to dress up in a Santa suit in the privacy of his own home I see it to be completely within his rights and in no way an affront to the German culture.
As a side note, I will be celebrating on the 24th in strict accordance with German tradition except I'll be in Canada as I've done every year of my life.

given my age and butt-size these days, Mrs. Claus might be more appropriate.
That'd be if I was a cheerful friendly sort, of course.

You can find Santa at the The Hard Rock Cafe! I just saw in a kids magazine that they have special breakfasts and brunches planned during all the weekends of Advent-
"Spiel and Spass mit Zauberer Konfetti, Photos mit Santa Claus, Kinderbetreuung, Amerkianisches Buffet"
which roughly translated means that there will be a magician, pictures with Santa , American breakfast and BABYSITTING! The phone number for reservations is 242 94914.
