Deleted forum member accounts

Their profiles are not clickable

Why is crispybee not clickable?

How can some people hide their profile?
Malcolm Spudbury
His account has been deleted.
TheDevilHimself
But why should you hide the profile? If you dont want people to read your profile or know about you, then just dont write anything there!
samy
I don't want to hide the profile. Just want to know where this option exists. As MS pointed out his account has been deleted and that's the reason it isn't clickable.
Orla_inka
I was just doing some "tidying up" of my PM folder and noticed that someone, who had sent me a message, was now "deleted".

It got me thinking (never a good sign). Do people really delete themselves or are they deleted? I mean, if I didn't want to subscribe to TT wouldn't I just "disappear" and not combust?

This person's moniker has been deleted from my message box though posts and strings still exist with the name. Just a bit weird.

(Edit: Hope some are impressed with my use of the search function!!!)

AFAIK, unused accounts are not automatically deleted. Have a look thru the members directory. Some people haven't logged into TT
for over 4 years, yet the account is still there.. If the old accounts were cleaned out, then TT's registered user count wouldn't be anywhere
as high as it is now..

I'd say that out of the 33,140 currently registered members, prob half or more haven't been active in years,
only logged in once to post "For sale" stuff, are dupe IDs, or have a post count of 0.

I'd say there are prob. about 8-10k active accounts that have logged on at least 10 times in the last year.
Orla_inka
This was a fairly new account. Posted some good messages and whoomph.

DK -- no need to estimate, it's all accounted for:

Totals: 2,245 posting members + 7,581 reading members = 9,826 active members
23,305 inactive members. Grand total membership count: 33,131 (full membership list)
Percentage of accounts that are currently active: 30% (definition of an active member)

Orla_inka
Gosh that is a bit Big Brothery.
bohemka
Orla... Who was it? Maybe they were shown the door. Or maybe it was found to be a dupe account?

Dam, I'm good... Didn't even know about that section.. So 70% of TT's registered users are infact non-existent..
And are only there to make TT's user base look good/big to Advertisers/Sponsors..
Gen
If that's the point, how come there's a page explaining exactly what the numbers mean? Kinda would defeat that purpose? rolleyes.gif

I rather think it's a maintenance issue, and so that the profiles remain clickable. If they didn't, you couldn't do the search for all a member's posts or topics anymore. Retains functionality to not delete accounts.
Darkknight
The stats below that fig. are also old (From 2007) time for an update..

But if most of those users have never posted, then that reason would be pointless..
Most of that 70% have 10 or less posts (Most years old), some have none at all and haven't logged on in years.

What use is it to keep the profiles of these users around, when they have never posted, or will not
be back anytime soon..

If the accounts were deleted, their posts would still remain, and be searchable. You would just
have to use the search function, and search for the users name, instead of just clicking on
"Show members posts".

Was that the "shoesize" guy? He may have been deleted because he was posting spam.
Orla_inka
Nope, it was someone who had not been a member for long. Wrote fairly coherent (would that be a deleatable offence?) messages.

I still cannot see why someone would join and then delete themselves after a few weeks.

tongue.gif oops wrong thread.

I didn't know you can delete yourself. I thought only moderators can do that. So where is the delete button?
Keydeck
Just go to your profile and then press the "Del" or "Entf" key on your keyboard and follow the instructions.
marie-claire
Thanks, Keydeck, good to know for anyone who wants to leave without a trace. I wonder how many people do that and then come back as a new user.

Huh? Where are they outdated? I think they're all updated in real time, just like in the homepage navigation.

But that brings up every post where a username is just mentioned as well. You lose a function.
Retaining the logins also assures that a login isn't taken by anyone else. There's a qwerty around now who's not the original, that's the only case I know of, but it bugs me. (No offense qwerty.) I prefer things to be orderly, not confusing. But that's me. Go ahead and try to convince Bob to delete the old accounts though, maybe he will change his mind.

Under, definition of an active member..

This is the part thats old and outdated..

QUOTE
At last count (April 2007) there were over 5,000 active members on the Toytown Germany chat forum.
This number is comprised of around 1,200 posting members and another 3,800 lurking members.
There are over 12,000 registered accounts in total. Around 40% of all accounts are active.

You can also limit your search to post made by any user, instead of ones that just mention the user name.

Gen
Ah, gotcha re the outdated info.

But! That advanced search option only works with current usernames. Try it with ex-user "jiggadee" -- found on this thread: Book recommendations Or even with crispybee, mentioned in the first post, for that matter...

Oh, another duplicate I forgot -- Noddy / noddy. Who is/was Noddy/noddy?
