Since march 2004 we meet regularly once a week at 12.30 p.m. on Thursdays. There are about 50 people on the mailing list; attendance varies between three minimum and eleven maximum so far. We try a different restaurant or canteen every week.
The main reason for being there is to have fun, meet new people and talk to other freelancers about stuff. *Networking* happens as a natural side-effect now and again, but we are nowhere near as business-oriented as Open BC or similar organisations.
Good things about meeting at lunchtime: we try to keep it relatively short (though sometimes this requires almost superhuman strength) and good restaurants are often much cheaper at lunchtime than they are in the evening; also less crowded and smoky and without blaring music.
We are a mixed bunch of Thirtysomethings, many designers for some reason, but also IT people, journalists, garden designers and other professions.
I sometimes hand out leaflets in likely places, but mostly try to let the whole thing grow slowly through word of mouth.
I would be delighted if some English-speaking people joined us as well, which is why I'm posting this here on Toytown Munich. So far we speak German, but are happy to switch to English anytime.
If you would like to join the mailing list and receive infos about where we'll be each week, please send an e-mail via Toytown or to the adress on the Mahlzeit! website: http://www.annegret.de/mittag/english/idea.htm
