I use mine, and have no problems with it at all. Sorry, you had problems, but I don't. I like the simplicity of one bill every month for my phone and internet. Yes, that is kind of lazy of me, but I have had no need to change my internet. And the times I did have problems, they were very helpful at the Help Line.

I think feakyfella is trying to say that you dont actually need to use the awful T-online software..

There is nothing wrong with using it...

T-Online, and especially their software is fine (nay, perfect) if you are computer-illiterate and speak perfect German. Very few TTers are both of these.

Notwithstanding the fact, of course that they are pretty much the most expensive option to get onto the broadband internet in Germany with.

That only leaves the apparant comfort of a single bill to provide any benefit...

Hehe... and you thought Telekom were bad

Its telekoms fault, im sure 1&1 would gladly start charging me the 25 per month but no they have to wait for some telekom clown to do the switch over.
Spookyfella
YL6, don't forget the operating system should be in German too !

Not if you use t-online version 4.0 cool.gif
Spookyfella

You made a statement which was incorrect.
I only corrected your error.

Betapower.net has just reduced its rates for flatrate DSL to €9 per month. Frank Schaefer, who runs the show, speaks English. The Ts and Cs specifically prohibit use of file-sharing services. If you're into flatrate access and you're not a BitTorrent or e*Animal* user then it's worth a look.

Not sure why you say that. Early T-online version 5 required German OS, but recent (and current) versions don't care about OS language...

Obviously didn't work the way I intended it. It was supposed to be in the same vein as your comments earlier, kida tongue in cheek!

Oh well, back to the smiley draughting board.

Telekom don't need to do anything to allow you to use 1&1. 1&1 are buying the DSL service from Telekom and selling it back to you at a profit. If you have DSL now then there's nothing to do. If you need an upgrade to 6Mb, Telekom can do it (if your line is capable) within 6 working days. 1&1 have major problems due to the popularity of their service which has overwhelmed them with orders that they cannot fulfil, their poor interface with Telekom (who, let's face it aren't exactly inspired to give away their business) and equipment shortages as AVM (who supply the Fritzbox that 1&1 offers) can't make them fast enough. Then there is their general (GMX) backbone, which has not been upgraded to take the flood of new, faster connections, so suffers badly, especially on trans-continental links. They're trying to sort it, by (wait for it) buying capacity from T-online...

Oh, and of course, when your DSL line fails, who ya gonna call? - 1&1? - correct! - and guess who they call - the line owners - Telekom of course... one extra link in the support chain. Guess who gets priorities on line-faults - Telekom customers of course!

It's a mad, mad world, but one the marketeers often win...

If anyone could guarantee that Alice sucked I'd switch immediately.

In January I switched from DSL 1000 to DSL 6000, nothing else, all within my existing T-Online account. Today, April 5, totally unprompted, I get a Welcome Package from T-Online, containing software and a splitter. None of which I neither ordered nor need and sincerely hope I won't be billed for. Also, the package actually has the date 23rd Jan 06 stamped on it, so does the letter in the Welcome Package.

If this sort of thing happens to me, what happens to other people? T-Online has to be Germany's prime screw-up company. I just wonder how they expect anyone to take them seriously. This is not the only incident they've had with me, btw.

On the other hand, I have lived in other countries, and in my experience phone companies/Internet providers are the ones most likely to either deliberately fuck you around, or screw up due to incompetence/disorganization. Don't think I ever want to work for a phone company…

Just for the record, I still haven't received my splitter.

You're sure it's from T-Online and not Telekom? T-Online don't give/sell/throw away splitters, Telekom do. If it came in grey packing then it's from Telekom, and the software isn't software but a multimedia guide how to install a splitter. It's not impossible that the person who booked your upgrade didn't upgrade you at all but cancelled your DSL-1000 account and started a new DSL-6000 one. Imperceptible to you, except of course as a "new customer" you get a "free" splitter, and it's worth another €15 commision for whoever did it.

Got a box of about 20 of these and the DSL modems down in the celler, they kept sending a new one every 10 days or so for months, and eventually get fed up of taking them back

I do appreciate it but I managed to snag one off a friend who was leaving the country a while ago.

It was in a grey box but came from T-Online. The CD has the T-Online 6.0 Software on it.

Not sure what to do with it. The deal was that if I upgrade my T-Online and do not require any hardware I would get a EUR 5,- discount every month for a year. I hope they are not counting this redundant splitter as hardware.

Assuming they really did send/process it on Jan 23rd, it should be in the billing pipeline by now. Not sure if it is, b/c after I switched to DSL 6000 I kept being billed for DSL 1000 although my bandwidth had noticeably changed. I called them about a month ago and they gave me some BS like "Due to the huge response to our great DSL 6000 offer we have had so many new customers that we are behind in the billing schedule and are working with utmost effort to fix the issue…". Tossers mad.gif

Splitters don't count as hardware - they're free whatever the case. You got the discount because you didn't take a router, modem or similar...

Hello
On Tuesaday I had a technician come round to tell me I was set up for DSL. The next day I picked up a T -DSL spliter and Speedport W 500 V router. I also got a letter in the post detailing my bill, 19.95 from T-Com i think and a further 9.99 for a DSL 2000 flat rate from T- online.

When I search for wireless network, it finds it but Im still unable to get online. I ave also got a document with anshlusskennung number and a password. Do I have to type these in somewhere. My german is very bad and I basically dont know what im at. Is it possible that T-online have not hooked me up to their service yet. The DSL keeps doing a function test and fialing telling me that I have no connection, although my router appears to have all the right green lights going on.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

The username (anshlusskennung) and the password are for the PPPoE connection. I have Kamp as my DSL provider and use my own Cisco router, so I'm not sure where you enter those...but you will need to enter them. The wireless/router probably has a web site that allows you to do that.

Best of luck!

It's more complicated than that. The PPPoE username for the router is a combination of AnsChlusskennung, T-Online Nummer and Mitbenutzernummer. However you don't need to know this as the installation assistant for the Speedport Router is T-Online-aware and simply asks you for the relevant information.

Okay thanks for replies. , I got the manual out and followed the german directions . Luckily there was plenty of screeshots in the manual and i managed to get it going. Now for my next trick, to get the wireless working! The wireless network is there but it just wont connect!!
