I watched High Fidelity last night and I was blown away. It was brilliant, I love that it had to do with music and not being sure of life and the idea of organizing your records autobiographically. It got me thinking of songs that are autobiographical for me, meaning that when I hear them it immediately takes me back to a certain place in my life, a mood, a city, a person. It reminds me of when I DJ and someone requests a song and the way the person goes extatic when they hear it played. I love that because I am the same way with music.

Anyway, off the top of my head here are 4 autobiographical songs/albums (5th will come once I think of it)

1. Ray of Light (Madonna) - I got this for my 18th birthday from my mom and it reminds me of my senior year in high school when I was living in Prague. It immediately takes me back to that day.

2. Move ya Body - New York City, summer of 2004. This was the hit of the summer and was played EVERYWHERE i went.

3. Eternal Flame - 6th grade, reminds me of the kid i had a crush on back then. Justin French, he was from Australia

4. The Eminem Show - reminds me of the time i was working in a store. I would get there at 7h15 in the morning and put eminem on while I would set up the store. It was great listening to Eminem while little old German ladies would shop for clothes.

For heaven's sake, please read the book. It's much better than the movie. You can borrow my copy, even.

Is the book better? I was going to go buy it tonight.
Kay
Do, do, it's brilliant!
Jules Winnfield
Agreed. If you like the movie, you'll love the book.
Jimbo

Foxy

1: 'Get of a' my cloud' - Stones. Dad's regular saturday house parties - used to sit at the top of the stairs as a tot and always remember this one playing.

2: Album: 'What's going on' Marvin Gaye. Woke me up to soul music at a time when Sweet, Slade were assaulting my 14 year-old ear drums.

3: Album:'Born to Run' Springsteen. Never off my player during my mid teens and still holds water today.

4: 'Beautiful boy' - John Lennon - I have three sons.

5: 'Meglomania' - Incubus - restored my faith in R&R at 45.

Yes the book is better(based in London) but the movie was brilliant also. Then again I pride myself in being a Cusakite..I am also a hopeless romantic. Well i will add my list later tonight... off to see the Dali exhibit...

Awww I really want to go to that exhibition but I am at work. Man, my 9to5 really gets in the way of a lot of fun things!

So I did what you all said. I read the book and then watched the movie again and ... they are sort of the same. I mean, there really isn't much difference. I still love the movie it just looks bleaker now that some of the lines were left out. But the book didn't blow me away like the movie did, to be honest.

Depeche Mode-Songs of Faith and devotion. By far not their best album but brings back memories of this tour and the girl that came with it. Oh young college love.

Stevie Wonder-Songs in the Key of Life.- A must have in the Stevie Wonder collection. Recieved this as a gift in summer of 99. Just quit my office job and decided to work as an artist for the first time. Had a lot great times listening to this album. When i listen to it, it still reminds me of all those crazy cats I use to hang out with, and now we are all spread over the world.(Recommended on vinyl)

Elliot Smith X & Os- 1998 Crazy year it was for me. I realised that I was not happy in life and the only person who could change it was me. Man perpetual moments of being melancholy. When I feel that way I always put this CD on. Not recommended with wine.

The Smiths-Meat is Murder. Great album. Was in high school at the time. Johnny Marr and Morrissy at their best. I remember at the time thinking(in good ol‘ Wichita Falls) that I had to get the hell out of there.

Krüder and Dörfmeister K N D sessions 1 & 2- another summer of 1999 albums. Whenever I hear disc 2 it reminds me of working in my first dark lab. I still listen to this album when I feel in a slump and need inspiration.
